I've had my full size 930 for some years now, and I have put well over 500 rounds through it in about 2 hours or less. It's never once misfired, jammed or anything else until I went and tried to shoot it as fast as I could, and that's only because I have an extension for 10 total rounds, and eventually I still being able to hold it well enough. When you tether it to the table and blast off as fast as you can, it never fails.

I took my 930SPX out to the range two weeks ago and used 3" slugs and it felt like someone was punching me in the arm. It sure was accurate though and it shot flawlessly! It's a very reliable shotgun and is a poor man's Benelli!

Really glad to see you finally review a 930SPX. I've owned one for a couple of years now with the pistol grip and in coyote tan. I think you'd love the pistol grip if you'd try it on this gun at least, really tames the recoil and control. You did pick one of the hardest kicking shells I know of but like you I love to shoot them once in awhile. No doubt they are very powerful and would be an excellent choice for close range deer. I prefer any of the Federal Flight Control ammo in mine. It more than doubles the effective range of buckshot. Amazing stuff. The first thing you do with a 930 is shoot and shoot and shoot some more. They do require quite a bit of breaking in and you'd be amazed how dependable they are after that. Also one of the first things to do take it apart and throw the factory pusher tube in the gas system in the trash can and put in a 3-Oragun perforated pusher tube in it. Will increase dependability by 99%. I love mine, excellent sights, nine shot capacity if you ghost load it and this is one of them that you can do that with and very dependable. With all that said they do like a lot of cleaning and if you will use something like wonder lube 3000 plus, (Which is pure carnauba wax) , instead of petroleum based oils the carbon will not stick nearly as much in the gas system and they will run much longer between cleanings.

Once again one of my favorite videos/review. Once the 930 is broke in it does feed reliably. I can shoot low brass and high brass with no issues. I have even run different rounds , field,slugs,buckshot and so on loaded in the tube at the same time with absolutely no issues what so ever. I do own a Blackwater version which I prefer due to the lower sights. I have added a LPA rear with green fiber optics and a Wilson's combat front red fiber optic. And I have replaced the stock with a Mesa tactical with the limbsaver option. I had to break it in once again. I have added a better safety magazine and shotgun follower with a OR3GUN as well as a Magpul barrel clamp with sling attachment and a accessory rail for a light. Not a forend tactical rail but one that fits on the magazine tube and can be placed in 3 different positions. And of course a Mesa Tactical side saddle. I do trust this shotgun in a defensive situation where lives are at stake. But I have trained , drilled if you will and I understand what rounds feed well and work under pressure. A jam is always a possibility. So training on reloading and clearing is a must. With a pump you could short shuck it in a tense situation. So whatever you choose train and re train and shoot the shells you plan to use for self defense.

I ran this gun through a 4 day tactical shotgun class at Frontsite. Over 500 rounds in 4 intensive days of training with no unintended failures. Slugs, Buckshot, and Birdshot. After that I sold all of my pump guns. This is my favorite shotgun of all. Accurate, reliable, and less recoil than a pump gun. However, it is substantially heavier.

Have had this exact shotgun model for some years and it's been perfect. Very reliable and it shoots 2 3/4 slugs very accurately. Great shotgun for the money, plus it functions perfectly with light field loads. Also have an old Benelli M1 configured exactly with LPA sights just like the Mossberg and similiar length barrel. They look like one another. The Benelli functions well too even with field loads but it is much older and has been broken it until it now functions with everything. Great shotguns, both the Mossy 930 and the Benelli M1. Life is good.

Mossberg is one of my go-to shotguns. I own a 500 20 gauge with a full choke. I like to do skeet shooting when I can and I go up against some of my buddies with a 12 gauge using the 500. Hits the target every time and easy to bring up from a low ready. Has yet to let me down. Shotgun is balanced and fun to shoot.

My father has had a model 500 pump 12ga since the early 70s and is his favorite hunting shotgun. It came from the factory with a twist adjustable choke (cylinder to full).

I destroyed my back at work and found it really hard to shoot a 3 inch shell with a pump shotgun. I would end up barely being able to walk out of the duck blind at the end of the day. I picked up the Mossberg 930 hunting shotgun semi auto gas chamber and I can shoot it all day long. Excellent shotgun for me. I am in the market for a home defense shotgun and I believe the one being demonstrated here is what I’m going with. Very reliable.

Great review as normal. Recoil is why most LE agencies are going to reduced recoil loads. Follow up shots and not getting beat up is the reason.

My favorite thing aside from it being a good, reliable, and affordable semiauto shotgun is the safety switch. There's something about putting the safety switch next to the trigger that makes a safety less safe compared to the thumb safety switch... that and it makes it much easier to operate with either hand without breaking cheek contact with the stock.

I got a 930 home defense with just the bead sight from Walmart few years back 399.00 on clearance for 299.00. Just got a ruger mini 14 ranch rifle 767.00 on clearance 599.00 . My local Walmart doesn't put much effort into selling firearms so they sit unsold in the display case for a year. They got a Henry big boy 357 and a 44 magnum waiting for them to go on clearance.

Still have my Ruger Mini ranch from 17 years ago. Walmart clearance for I think $497.00, maybe a little less. Still one of my favorite rifles and I kept it pretty stock, only having the trigger and action worked on 10 years ago, and a barrel change (it gets shot a LOT). I only recently converted it to my truck rifle, with a small T1 red dot and a Klarus X11GT light to throw some white light several hundred yards out at night/dusk/dawn or as a makeshift entry rifle if emergency happens.

I have a 930 security 7-shot model (7 + 1 in chamber) basically an spx without the tacticool features. A more simplified model, but the internals are the same. An absolute beast for $600 USD. No need for a fancy benelli or beretta, though I’m still crazy jealous when I see one. Its such a simple beauty, disassembly/reassembly is easier than with my maverick 88.

I have one and it’s great. Got 20” barrel that takes chokes and got the Silencerco adapter chokes. Put a Salvo 12 on it and it’s fun on a bun all day shootin with out ears! Reliable as the day is long. Put an OR3GUN kit in it and rain or shine it operates.

JR Arevalo It’s a company out of Oregon named itself OR 3 GUN. Put it all together it looks like OR3GUN. The 930 has a tube in the forearm that is a complete cylinder. The kits contain a perforated cylinder that allows moisture and dirt a way out and eliminates a feeding problem that can occur in rain or high humidity or dirty situations. Along with other performance enhancing parts. And as far as ammo goes mine has utilized anything I’ve run through it. From low base trap shells to buck to buck and ball to slugs. Eats em all.

Yeah I think it's how it positions the hand lower. I prefer a regular stock myself.

Hickok45 was a neighbor when I lived in Tennessee. Great guy! I'm actually thinking about buying this shotgun myself, Although I've owned a very high end Benelli, it's just too expensive.
