I purchased one of these from Buds 4 weeks ago. I took it out of the box once I got it home from my FFL admiring it and I felt something hit my foot. I looked on the floor and found the trigger group retaining pin on the ground. I picked it up and placed it in the hole and pushed it right through. I couldn’t get the pin to stay in. I removed the trigger group and and found the ball detent wasn’t protruding from the hole. I was able to depress the ball detent with a dental pick but there was something preventing the ball from extending beyond the hole that would catch on the retaining pin grooves. Instead of contacting Mossberg I just ordered an anti walk retaining pin. Once installed I was good to go and put about 100 rounds through it, a mix of birdshot and 00 Federal flight control. Not a hiccup. I was upset the pin wasn’t caught in quality control and I didn’t want the hassle of sending it back but the anti walk retaining works great and looks like it belongs. It’s a great looking gun and I’m happy I purchased it. Hickok 45, thanks for your reviews

Funny enough, I bought a regular 590A1 brand new in 2011 and did my own "retro" makeover to it, long before these factory options were even being thought about! I bought some used wood from a duck shotgun for like $18, stained it using Tapadera's Winchester stain (sadly no longer around) and built a custom heat shield from perforated metal stock (back then, none of the available heat shields were built to accommodate the thicker barrel of the A1. Plus, my design was closer to the original era shields). I researched the piss out of the 590 - I wanted it to be the only shotgun I would ever buy. 13 other guns later, and that theory has still remained true. I like my version of the "retro" better in the long run - I think the wood looks much, much better and I prefer the lack of sights, which I think seriously detract from the look of this gun. But any 590 is the tops, no matter the aesthetics. Best shotgun ever designed - rock on!

Hickok45 i just wanted to tell you a story. Im a left leaning moderate, and NRA loathing, I'm in the military but I've never been a huge fan of fire arms. Last year my dad gave me his old Smith and Wesson 5906. I immediately got my conceal carry. That gun means a lot to me but decided i should get something newer (and lighter) to carry. After spending months researching i decided on the M&P 2.0. I don't know you personally but you played a huge roll in my getting comfortable with firearms. You're hugely accurate, you teach proper procedure and you make the learning process fun. Fast forward I now own 3 pistols and I'm going by an AR in March. It will be the 3rd one i held since CATM in basic training. Im still not an NRA guy but I'll find a club im comfortable with one day. I just wanted to say thank you and give mr. gong my regards. Lol

No good in around, both instances during clay pigeon shooting. Both instances did happen when multiple clays were pitched at once. A thin piece of metal seemed to have gotten wedged stuck so bad no amount of effort I could “safely” provide would free it. I’m still getting this retrograde regardless. @Rajbir Dhadda you do raise a good point haha. Although with cap and ball revolvers the law is a bit iffy on them because of the length, technically they’re an antique but also handguns are illegal, so to own a revolver cartridge or muzzleloader it has to be over a certain length with a combination of an extended barrel and a piece of wire off the grip to make the overall length over the legal amount which legally makes it a carbine rifle and not a handgun, also you need an explosives licence to buy black powder 😂 I’d have to apply for a separate firearms licence to have rifles. We have a lot of lee Enfields over here coz we made them but not a lot of everything else like Mauser and Mosins. I’d love a Winchester ‘97 model but they’re quite rare over here and you need a firearms licence for a shotgun with a capacity over 2+1 and good reason to own it. Also our healthcare is free I suppose but you pay national insurance every month as well as your tax, but yeah I see your point.

Went to Walmart a few days with my buddy who bought 2 shotguns at once, the store staff didn't bat an eye at it either.

I have a regular 590a1, and although I don't like the look of the heat shield, it definitely has a purpose... Just this weekend, I shot off 200 buck shot rounds, and the barrel was HOT and uncomfortable to hold...

Hickok, just picked up a Mossberg 500 Retrograde. It’s more along the lines of a retro riot gun with the 18.5” barrel, 5 rd magazine, walnut furniture and bead front sight. Oh, and it’s blued finish!!! I really like just having that bead front sight. I’m definitely going to have to find a blued finish heat shield for it! You should keep an eye out for one. 💭👍🏻👊🏻💥💥

Wish I had this shotgun. So so beautiful. I’ve got 500 though, and I love it. I’d like to upgrade it, have those retro parts, like forend and stock. Can’t find them anywhere. 🙄

Nice special effects making that shotgun look like it was shooting without the bayonet on 👍

I was doing some serious pot smoking while you were pot smoking and had to laugh when you said “let’s do some serious pot smoking!” Always such entertaining and relatable content, keep up the great work sir!

I just purchased the Mossberg Retrograde 590 on Saturday and I Love it. It is simple to use with the Bead site on the front. Unlike the A1 with that Large halo rear peep site and Large front post

Those will age nicely. In 5 years of use that patina will be softened up and it'll look like it came from Vietnam. And the action will break in to where it's silky smooth. I just have a Moss 500 and it's so broken it that the action just loads a shell so nicely. Nice shotgun. The bayonet is a little over the top, but I love it!

My 590a1 has the xs Ghost ring sights and my friend has the one with those ghost rings and his is off also. I had to raise the elevation on his as high as it would go and it’s still a few inches low at 50 yards with slugs. Mine is great and is right on from the factory.

Finally! Bought one when they came out, sold it , regretted it, bought another one, from Bud's. Great shotgun. Mine wears a Phrobis M9, sometimes and a Triple K leather military sling.

I run the Aguila shorty shells in my 870, no adaptor needed. They don't feed 100%, wouldn't bet my life on them in the 870 but absolutely fun
