@@ABAO2009 oh so in cross country if you receive help it’s seen as an automatic forfeit. You have to ask for it because if they just assume they can mess up your results. It’s odd but let’s say she waited then got up and added a couple of minutes it’s better than a DNF (did not finish) and they don’t take you over the finish line. the runners probably didn’t care and knew she couldn’t but wanted to finish the race . The medics would just pull her off right there no cross over the finish line. She’ll get a DNF but still finished

This is what I miss most about playing sports. Regardless of race, religion etc. Athletes share a common brotherhood and sisterhood born in the blood sweat and tears it takes to push your body and mind to perform at high levels, and you value the part of your opponent that pushes you even further because in that opponent you see a little bit of yourself....

Yeah, I used to run cross country, and I remember this one race when I rolled my ankle with 100m to go, and I finished it on my own, but collapsed in tears right after I passed the finish line. There was this girl from another team that we had kind of been pacing off of each other the whole race and she slowed down to encourage me through the end, then rather than hydrating and celebrating with her teammates, she turned around, picked me up off the ground, helped my coach carry me to the medical tent, then bought me a Gatorade and a water bottle. You will find some of the best people in sports

I remember once was I riding my bike with my friend. I didn’t realise that she had gone home already, I was at the end of the street when I looked back to see where she was. When I did, I slipped over and got my leg got stuck in the wheel, it seriously hurt. I was crying my eye out, I couldn’t get it unstuck, and yet nobody help me. That was until a car pulled over to the side of the street. I got a bit scared, but he came out of the car, and helped me get my leg out. He then brushed me off and went back to his car and drove off as if nothing had happened. I thanked him in my mind, I hope he had a good future. He was the only person who had helped me when I needed it the most. ❤️

When my sister and I went home from school once, there was a boy cycling past alone and somehow the front weel just came loose. He faceplanted really hard. It looked really bad. We went to help, but didn't really know what to do. He looked fine, but he also seemed dazed. There was a car who stopped and told us to get him to the hospital which was close by and then just drove on. So we fixed his bike and the wheel at a lamp post and walked him over. I remember I was really mad then, because there was an adult, who even stopped to look what's up, but then didn't help and decided to just leave two teenagers to deal with it.

The cross country runner at 7:06, Holland Reynolds, who crawled across the finish line wanted to finish not only because it was her coach's last season. Her coach, Jim Tracy, well-known and well-respected in California running circles, had ALS (or "Lou Gehrig's Disease"), which is essentially incurable. He and the team knew that this would be his last season because he would die relatively soon; he did, about three years later. By crawling across the line, she secured the state title for her team and her terminally-ill coach. Sport is a metaphor for life, and sometimes the stakes are bigger than just winning a game or match.

My older sister played softball as a short stop. She caught a ground ball, threw to first and it hit the batter in the jaw. The crack was loud. My sister ran over to check on her and held ice on her face and helped get her to the dugout. Being a good sport, win or lose is what everyone should aspire to be. Games are just that in the end. Everyone works hard and wants to win but compassion for other teams getting injured should always be more important than winning.

I am glad they stopped for her and did that but they didn't have too. I wouldn't have looked down on the non-Muslim woman if they had not, there was a game to play. The muslim woman in question was wearing a hijab you would wear on the street, that was not designed for sports. She could have cost her team the game. I looked it up and there are hijabs specifically for sports, Nike has a whole line. Athletes don't wear standard shoes, or undergarments when playing sports, a muslim woman should not wear an normal hijab. It was her, and her teams responsibility to make sure she was properly equipped. I hope in the future they get the correct hijab for the job.

Hahaha. This comment is so accurate. There was another video I saw recently where it was prefaced as "volleyball player saves ball 1/2inch from hitting the ground." She did a pancake.

When I first started playing volleyball and I was still afraid of the ball my friends used to spike balls at me. Let’s just say that you learn real quick that those things don’t hurt much afterward lol.

For some reason i got tears in my eyes when the girls (sorry if i’m wrong) hijab got loose and the other team got around her so nobody could see her so she could put it back on. It got me tears in my eyes bc there is so much racism in the world and that hurts me. So yeah this beautiful moment gave me tears :’)

an opponent is not an enemy, that is the main core of sports and combat conducts, its how you can separate competition from wars ... and even fighting for our lives, when we understand our enemies of war well enough to beat them, we start loving and respecting them...
