when i was in 1st grade, my school was having a career day, and i was kinda pissed that my dad couldn't come back because he was on deployment. at the very last one my teacher made me go in the front of the line, which confused me. we walked into the room, and i just started crying when i saw my dad. one of the happiest and most reassuring moments of my life. I had the honor of being a part of a surprise soldier return. I worked at a beach park and the soldier returned home without telling his girlfriend and wanted to surprise and propose to her. He had everything planned out and had his friends bring her and showed her around. Then the soldier appeared and proposed right there. She was so happy that she jumped into his arms and said yes. It was an honor for me to witness it and I told him how much of an honor it was. I’ll never forget that day.

These make me so emotional. My oldest son’s goal was always to be a soldier. He’s been gone in the Army for almost three years now (next month) and has only been home twice. I’m so proud of my combat medic and thankful that he surprised me for Christmas two years ago with my own coming home video. He hasn’t been home for the holidays since then.
