That kids mistake was at least supposed to resemble an actual goal kick, not randomly in the midst of play after the goalie picks up a cross. (and holds the ball for apparently 16 seconds to wipe all memories from the defenders) There are levels to stupidity. And these guys certainly leveled up.

Okay just an anecdote trying to explain how it happened twice. I used to be a firefighter. And back when we were trained they taught us about why so many people hit trees when they loose control over their cars. Because when they loose control and see that tree their brain goes "do not hit the tree do not hit the tree" and accidentally hyperfocus on the tree. At which point their subconscious goes "Tree? We're focusing on the tree? Okay. Tree it is" and starts steering them towards the tree. So what probably went on there with the second penalty was that a part of the brain of that defender went "do not pick up the ball" and the subconscious of him heard "pick up the ball?" and went "okay." Brains work weird like this.

It was a crazy weekend, not sure if this was mentioned but there was a game in Poland that weekend too that was controversial. Stal Mielec v Lechia Gdańsk (my team), a relegation scrap in the ekstraklasa. Lechia score in the 2 minute only for the goal to be disallowed by var after Stal already restarted the game and about 30-40 seconds into restarting the ref stops the game to look at var and disallow the goal (ive never seen that happen before). Then Stal scored a goal where they literally judo slammed a Lechia defender during a corner and var didn't intervene 😂 it was a ridiculous game even for Polish standards. It also was shoved under the carpet as refs in Poland do whatever they like

Interesting, the “VAR after the restart” thing happened here in Romania too. It was the first match of this season. UTA Arad was playing Rapid Bucharest at home. Rapid scored first in the 23rd minute, 0-1. UTA equalised in the 60th. And then, in the 89th minute, a Rapid defender stupidly loses the foreground and allows an attacker to get possession on a long ball. He runs down the wing, cuts inside as 2 defenders try to rush him and regroup, one of them falls down as the attacker lunges for the ball, the ball falls to a different attacker who scores!! Absolute pandemonium among the home crowd, it s a 2-1 win to start off the season against one of the big Bucharest sides (UTA are a historical club themselves but still)! Then the kick off is taken, the game continues for about 40 seconds until…the 4th official steps onto the field. The centre ref blows the play dead. What…what is going on? Apparently the main ref s earpieces weren’t working, we re going to VAR! The UTA officials start protesting but are calmed down. As the ref goes to the screen, it becomes clear that the defender that fell down had actually gotten to the ball first and was kicked in the leg by the attacker, his leg being the one that involuntarily passed the ball to the scorer. Understandably, after 1:30 minutes of added time had gone, the goal is ruled out. The game ended 1-1. And honestly, I (as a fan of neither team and actually a rival of Rapid, I support FCSB) am completely fine with that, the correct decision ended up taken in the end. What game was it where the PL hid behind “oh we realised it was a mistake but the play had already restarted, sorry lads”, that Liverpool-Spurs offside? Well, that s how you solve those. Speaking of Rapid, they are in a catastrophic fall off right now, like absolutely mental levels of breakdown. They went bankrupt in 2016, reformed themselves, got promoted back up the leagues and for the past few seasons started challenging for the European places again under their new owner Dan Sucu. Last season as the regular season was drawing to a close we were 11p above them in the table as we were first and they second but it was all still to play for as the points get halved for the championship round. We had to play them in a supposed “away” match at what is usually our stadium, the biggest stadium in the country National Arena (Rapid had it played there for the extra gate receipts). Well, they beat us 4 fucking 0 (tbh we never beat them lately but still). Now it s only 4p between us with 10 tough matches (including 2 direct ones) still to go. They start chirping up about how “they are coming for us”. I was SURE we were going to choke the title as we always do. But I had the wrong chokers. Rapid won 1 game and drew 1 other (both to us, surprise…) the rest of the season. That s 10 games. Obviously they fired the coach during that series and got in an interim (Bogdan Lobont, the former Roma and Ajax GK). We won the title with games to spare (3, iirc). They finished 6th and only because they couldn’t fall any lower. But that s not all. In the summer, a revigorated Rapid spent even more on the transfer market. Brought in Neil Lennon, the former Celtic coach. Then they dropped that draw I told you about on the first day of the season. Then another one to CFR Cluj. Then a 1-0 loss. Then 3 more draws, including one to Dinamo in the derby (that s surprisingly good this season). Then Neil Lennon got fired and fan favourite Sumudica got the job. Then he actually got a well-fought 2-1 win over last season s relegation candidates Poli Iasi, the first besides the one against us in a whopping 17 games. Well, they are now at 3 wins in the past 22 games heading into this international break. And they were supposed to be the “professional management” antithesis to our Becali (owner, he s a massive character) chaos, idk lads but I d take the unprofessional owner making the team every week if it means we re winning the title, not going bankrupt and being the only Romanian team still in Europe unlike everyone else!

@@edi0157 that's interesting it's happened in other leagues before. I just found it so weird because VAR and the ref have time to check the goal before restarting. In this situation it was a very soft foul they found during the build-up of the goal. The Romanian league sounds very similar to Poland, shame about Rapid falling behind the rest as they are a huge team. I think this is also similar to Dinamo Bucharest?

@@sebz019 that was the first I saw of such a play too tbh, I guess that makes two of them now. At least in our case it was unquestionably the correct call so people got over it, I can imagine that when it isn’t necessarily people are much more angry about that. Yeah, Dinamo almost went bankrupt too after they were sold by their previous owner (who himself lorded over an insolvency period a few years prior) to a random Spanish man known as Pablo Cortacero in 2020. He promised to invest all of this money into the club, brought Spanish staff and players (most notably Aleix Garcia, yeah, the Girona and Leverkusen dude has 7 league games played for Dinamo) on big wages and then just ghosted. This was happening to a club that had already been in the relegation round three times in the previous three seasons, including one where it is arguably the pandemic that saved them (in 2019-20 they couldn’t fulfil a lot of their fixtures due to outbreaks and performed badly when they did leaving them 5 points away from playoffs and 6 away from sure safety with 5 matches still due to be played. The Romanian federation decided to expand the league to 16 teams instead with only one team to go to a relegation playoff (Dinamo was 2nd from bottom, 13th) saving them from relegation. Dinamo fans claimed they would have rescued themselves had the rest of the matches been played. I for my part made fun of them for being saved by the Federation). You can see how it got ugly. The club was kept alive via donations from fans that wrestled a 20% stake in the club to go with it. On the sporting side they managed to stave off relegation again via a miracle run at the end of the 2020-21 season but eventually in 2021-22 they ended up relegated via a playoff against their “friends” Universitatea Cluj that were coming up from the second tier (the ultra groups are friends with each other). Which means that we re now the only team to have never been relegated in Romania. Oh, and also, during this season they lost a game to us 6-0. After that game their captain and fan favourite Gabi Torje claimed they will be in the championship round (top 6 teams). Then we beat them again 3-0 and they got relegated for the first time in their history as I said. Personally, I totally approve of this. Then they almost got stripped of their badge too (in true Romanian fashion, keeping track of teams identities is never simple. You might have heard of the CSA-FCSB Steaua split but that s not the only one. The club s badge was actually owned by Nicolae Badea, a former investor in the club that somehow ended up with the legal rights to the badge for himself. Oh, and he also has his own team, CS FC Dinamo that just promoted to the 3rd tier. Where CS Dinamo, a separate team owned by the original founders of Dinamo, the Ministry of Internal Affairs also exists. Welcome to Romania.) but eventually Badea allowed them to keep using it. Then they finished 4th in the second tier but promoted via a playoff. At some point around here Cortacero was fully legally wrestled out of the club and different majority investors that seem to be in it for the long haul took over the team. Dinamo, now back in the first tier, had to play another relegation playoff that they won (to be fair to them we do have 2 direct relegation spots and 2 playoff spots, they came 13th). However, this season they have impressed many as they currently sit in 5th with 18p from 12 matches which would see them into the championship playoff if they keep up the pace (after the regular season where everyone plays everyone else twice as usual we actually split off into two mini leagues, halve the points and play 10 more rounds. The top 6 play the championship round among each other home and away, the other 10 play just once against each other. Yeah, I hate this system too but loads of worse European leagues have introduced it unfortunately). They are currently above the likes of us (7th with 16p from 11 games but we always start badly and have a game in hand), Farul (champions two seasons ago and Hagi s team, formerly known as Viitorul) and Rapid. They are due to play us at “home” (actually National Arena once again for the money and also their normal stadium Stefan cel Mare is due to be rebuilt. They usually play at the 2021-built Arcul de Triumf these days until the new Stefan cel Mare is built but that is a really small 8k stadium that was supposed to just be for the rugby federation so obviously holding a derby there isn’t the best idea) after the international break. This will probably be the most contested derby in a while. If they can, God forbid, beat us that would be a massive statement. Hopefully they don’t, we will have to see if they keep it going

Zealand, the second "handball" was at Eintracht Braunschweig vs Hannover 96 and not also in the Fürth v Magdeburg game. It was on the same matchday but different game. You can see it in the top left corner where it says 1-0 H96 in the score graphic.Braunschweig won that game 2-0.

I saw the plays before this video, hilarious but it makes me wonder if there was whistling in the stadium making players confused or something because how else does this happen? 8:35 And on the second play, no, how on Earth is an advantage correct there? The only justification for it is if you knew by some miracle that the defender will handball, otherwise there was no advantage if someone hadn’t been extraordinarily stupid as to just ignore the rules. I am sorry, but not blowing that play dead is a ref mistake to me. Not even the one Furth player that might have conceivably got the ball didn’t even try to and appealed for the foul. By that logic you might as well not call anything around the box because someone might be confused and pick the ball up. The players should wait for the ref to blow but still, that was a free kick first and foremost, the pen appeared because the ref didn’t call an obvious foul and the defender stupidly picked the ball up (feels really harshly done though when he wasn’t even appealing for anything, it was a foul against his team but those are the rules)
