In recent months the MX5 became tons easier to drive in iRacing. I'd put more on that being the difference, not the pedals. It's a night and day difference, and if you haven't played in months - there you go. It now drives like something resembling a car, not a shopping cart crossbred with a skateboard. Also, you can easily set the Fanatec brake to remove all the movement before it gets on the load cell... Pretty basic setup thing, not sure how it's their fault if you don't do it. Believe me, hardware makes minor difference at best.

I have crappy G27 pedals unmodded and I have managed pole in the quali results this week (Global Challenge Fixed) in Div1 so I would also say that hardware isnt a major game changer too. Rene Hourian With the way the iRacing thread for this video was going, decided I should probably give it a watch and see what was said. AirCommando12 cars don't flex
@VoidSixx8 жыл бұрын
Callum Suttle Yes they do. They flex quite a bit actually. That's one of the reasons you add a roll cage, and it's also one of the reasons some cars like the R34 GTR have a strut across the engine bay. Have you never heard somebody talk about body rigidity?
@vibezhd43418 жыл бұрын
The reason to why cars have a strut brace is to keep the front end of the car twisting. Hence why the brace goes from suspension post to post because that is where most of the turning force is coming from. The roll cage however would help withe the A-B posts of the car itself and somewhat the peddle flexing. Car peddles don't have half as much as shown in this video, but there is some there.

MPPC stopped producing these pedals because of Wilwood MC issues. They had a huge failure rate with the first batch of pedals produced, with the MC leaking. Wilwood addressed the issue, and the failure rate was much lower with the second pedal batch. MPPC (to their great credit) will still honor the warranty on these pedals should you have a set, or purchase a set used. The MC on my set actually failed three times due to leakage...which was absolutely not MPPC's fault. After the third repair, I didn't mount them, so I'll be using them as a backup for the current set of pedals which I have installed. The design of these pedals is excellent. Hopefully Wilwood has the MC leakage issue resolved (a bit scary when you think that a similar MC might be mounted on a street/race car...

@diablothe2nd10 жыл бұрын
I have the clubsport V2 pedals with a hydraulic cylinder (full clubsport set too with base, two wheels, shifter), they're definitely a massive step up from the G27 and even T500 pedals, but it does take some playing and messing around with both the sensor adjustment next to the pedal and the in-sim controls to get the pressure graphs close to a real brake pedal. These pedals do look good, if i had a grand spare i'd consider it over my V2's. That flex i'm worried about though. it might become permanently bent and then you'd be unable to slide the pedals side to side.

I plan on building the rig myself and not buying one so the flexing of the support rails, I think, can be fixed by buying more mounting brackets and installing them between each pedal. First off I love you Jerry but when you review sim stuff i cringe. I am a daily sim racer with decent stats. It kills me that you get stuff just sent to you. I follow you on iracing and you never race. You have top of the line stuff that collects dust. For as much as you race you should consider these new pedals as a giveaway to a fan. A hard core racer will benefit from them more than you. The pedals you had are also great. I run the Fanatec pedals and they are great and have a "real feel". As far as a new wheel yours is fine for the amount of time you put into racing. Once again i love your stuff Jerry. it's just your lack of knowledge in iRacing and sim racing that nulls this review.

@sgtdaye7 жыл бұрын
Nah man, its a little more than that. He never said HE deserves the pedals, just that maybe a fan(which DEFINITELY includes you, lmfao) or a much more hardcore simmer than himself could, and probably would get more use out of them. Don't show your ass by calling anyone a "snowflake". "Jerry" has stated MULTIPLE times he hasn't raced in months. I don't give a flying fuck how many peons like yourself follow "Jerry". It doesnt make him a good simmer, or even a good driver for that matter. TheSLAPTrain has well over 1 million followers. That doesnt make him any less annoying than people who follow "the following". Out of curiousity, when you get Jerry's balls out of your mouth, tell me when the last time he made a "Sim" video was? Or better yet, a racing SIM video? .....don't worry, I'll wait. Don't ignore logic. What he said was logical. It makes sense. MUCH more than calling someone a snowflake just cause you don't have shit to backup the dumb things you decide to defend or say. I for one am jealous he got those pedals. As is ANYONE else who is into racing sims, and not willing to spend that kind of money on pedals.

Hey Barnacules. I know you wont read this but it's not hard to try. One tip or two on iRacing: You should always heel and toe while downshifting. If you don't know what this is, it's to , while pressing the clutch to downshift blip the throttle to raise the rpms. Your downshifts will be much smoother, and will not have a tendency to sudenly snap when downshifting mid cornerning. And if you find the perfect braking spot where the brakes are at their optimal zone, where you brake the max you can whitout locking the brakes you can get that braking zone smaller :)

First timer mistake, and I was really hating myself for it.

I don't know how much people are willing to spend on racing simulators before it costs more than racing a damn car to begin with. Left foot braking can actually improve your lap times; especially in turbocharged cars or rally racing, since hitting gas and brakes simultaniously lets you slow down without losing boost due to wastegate. Also it shifts the weight to the the front of the car, which is more than useful in rally racing, because the rear of the car will be way more likely to break out allowing you to drift. Long story short: Left foot braking = faster laps due to faster cornering.
@williamstaples59948 жыл бұрын
yea cause I would much rather keep swapping between gas and brake cause the clutch is just use so much to keep a foot locked to just that pedal........ its already shown that people can properly use both feet for gas/brake have better reaction times and I would much rather have a slight slower time hitting the clutch then the brake or gas

Its DIY, so it would make a fantastic video! Also it can be more powerful and have more detail in the FFB plus lower latency! Its worth a look into! (Plus its cheap as compared to everything else out there ie bodnar wheel). Great video as always!

Oh hell yea. I realy want this for racing games. :D GZ on the new pedals.

it would be sick if all of the sliders and springs had motors. This would allow you to download a profile with measurements from an actual car so they would match that certain pedal set. I see a suggestion box entry soon!

These are literally the sexiest pedals in the word!!! When gt7 comes out will will have to seriously shop around for the ultimate sim setup! Great video though man.

I'm in the middle of building my rig. It will be way different from the one you have. I am a dirt racer mainly, so I am setting mine up like a sprint car cockpit. I would love to race with you some day.

If you want possibly the most high end belt driven wheel, then go with the Fanatech club sport wheel, If you want an extremely expensive but awesome wheel go with the Leo Bodnar wheels.

actually with pro stock (8 second quarter mile or so, up to 9) you don't want to hit the breaks unless you are already slowed down allot by the chute or you are about to hit a wall, just tapping the breaks at 150mph+ can cost a couple grand.

Hey, barnacles, if you want shoes that feel good with racing pedals, try Puma, or Simpson racing shoes. They are made as racing shoes and they are flat. That's so your feet don't get hung on the pedals. I used to wear them when I raced go karts

Thanks for the view, this looks pretty awesome, and as a side note I really like the fan art :D p.s. driving without shoes is really strange because it feels like you have to be more accurate with your foot placement or something. Most of the time during the summer when I usually wear sandals I'll use to get to my car and I'd just slip em off and drive barefoot. It's an incredibly weird feeling but after awhile you get used to it :P

Cool pedals for a race car guy, but I'm a pilot. If you do FSX, I recommend XXR, what this is basically a real, 100% authentic rudder/break pedals from yes, the Boeing 737. They are the best in simulation for flight, however they are $3,499.99, but it's well worth it.

Man I'd love to get this, even if it was just for a present for my old man. I'm sure there's more joy he'd get out of it than I would. Got an old Logitech Driving Force setup that was originally ment for the Ps2, does the job but the pedals have all the tension of a kitchen sponge
@ShakaTechnique10 жыл бұрын
You should get that fanatec clubsport wheel base with like the glass window, then get a wheel of choice, if you don't like the fanatec wheels they sell, you could get an adapter and use actual car wheels.

Boy Jerry, It seems like this would have been a great Jerry Rig'd video of getting pedals out of the junk yard or ebay and some clutch/brake master cylinders and rig'd something up. I'm feeling a little bit of sheet metal and a welder, stock pedals could be made to fit. But this is an extremely nice setup and it is definitely something that people would go jelly for.

Nice review, Jerry. Glad to see you back in the seat. :) As far as direct-driver wheels go there are only 2 with a 3 rumored. Plus from those two only 1 is on the market as of yet. 1. SimSteering wheel (by LeoBodnar) 2. SimXperience AccuForce (not yet available. Possible 1600 to 1800 usd price point, but I haven't read anything concrete yet) 3. Fanatec direct-drive (rumored of them thinking about making one. So a no go for a wheel) For the SimSteering wheel check out Barry Rowland's review at his Sim Racing Garage channel. Also I see another downside to these pedals. No clutch pressure plate simulation mechanism. So you don't have that feel of pushing through the diaphragm spring. As far as the Fanatec CSP goes, I agree with the downside. But you can hardly complain about that considering the pricepoint. Anything better with a nice finish seems to all be well above 500 usd, with them quickly being 700, 800, 900 dollars.
@Barnacules10 жыл бұрын
I completely agree! I already contacted SimXPerience about the AccuForce to see if I could be a beta tester and do some videos for them. As for the clutch diaphragm spring the CSP does a good job of simulating that whereas these new pedals don't but to be honest I like the additional travel on the new pedals and didn't even miss the clutch feel from the CSP at all. I do wonder if there would be some clever little way to upgrade these to give the spring feel like the CSP's. Now you got me thinking :D
@bigtrucker2610 жыл бұрын
Barnacules Nerdgasm pressure plate sim mod suggestion-take a silicone bushing-thin diameter, soft, and taper it, insert inside the spring for the clutch, making sure it is shorter than the set travel. That, if cut right, should provide the feeling of a additional transition.... Secondarily-little more expensive, you could get a second hydraulic set (master/slave/etc), and use a softer thinner bushing than what is installed on the brake. Many cars, including my ranger, have hydraulic clutches, instead of cable clutches. Of course at that point, you could also get a spring/dead disc/and bad flywheel, from say a local wrecker, and just clean and paint them, hide them in a box, and run your hydraulic to it.... It would be heavier, but would give you the "real deal"
@bigtrucker2610 жыл бұрын
bigtrucker26 perhaps some surgical tubing on the shaft under the clutch spring would suffice....?

I think the Fanatec Clubsport is most definitely the next step up from the T500. The shifter also blows the Thrusmaster one out of the water. Only trouble is you're gunna need about 2 grand for the wheel base, the wheel, and the shifter. I have the BMW and the Formula rims and love them, they make a G27 look and feel like a child's toy. I suppose the next move up from there you're looking at a Frex, but i've never used one so can't comment on its feel.
@diablothe2nd10 жыл бұрын
just to add, although belt drive, the clubsport V1 base doesn't have the looseness and cogging feel of either the G27 or the T500 around the center. the V2 base has been redesigned even further for less resistance/cogging and more force feedback. The only problem i've had is the main wheel sensor died on me, but Fanatec identified the problem after sending them a video and posted me a replacement i fitted myself within two days. Great aftersales care.

Wow that flexes quite a bit when your put pressure on the brakes.
@Barnacules10 жыл бұрын
I was pushing pretty hard but it does flex quite a bit. I am going to see if I can use some turnbuckles to angle to the top and bottom of the sim to hold it completely solid. I'll experiment around and make a #JerryRigged episode for my solution
@ImbecileNerd10 жыл бұрын
Barnacules Nerdgasm Ah sounds like a good idea. Was thinking it might work itself loose or start to stress the structure out if it keeps bending like that
@bigtrucker2610 жыл бұрын
Barnacules Nerdgasm All you need is a bracket like the ones on the ends, then run a arm (plate) going to the top bar, with a single u-bolt.... Or you could simply make a bracket to bolt to the brake bracket, and have a arm on the bracket that attaches to the top bar with a single u-bolt. Either way you aren't talking much load, and it is just in a fore/aft direction. If you want to make a arm that has adjustable length, just make sure you use at least 2 bolts in the adjustment, to prevent the adjustment point from becoming a pivot point...
@kenball19808 жыл бұрын
awesome setup!!! I'm so jealous.
@Mysteoa10 жыл бұрын
Probably you can mitigate the flex if you make a custom support to put it above the brake.
