About the game:
Instruments of Destruction features an advanced physics-based destruction system. You can demolish every structure in the game piece by piece. In addition, every object you see in the game world--save for small decorative plants and rocks--is part of the physics system. Each element of the world interacts with each other and together they create a physical, visceral world to play with.
Build Your Vehicle
Build a vehicle your way, with an ever-expanding array of parts and pieces. Using an intuitive vehicle construction system that also lets you customize your vehicles' appearance and controls, you'll always have fun creating your next awesome invention.
From simple splitters to advanced joints, a variety of parts slowly unlock as you play through the game, and each unlocks countless new possibilities.
While some vehicles will perform better than others in accomplishing your objectives, it's always a bit more fun to get creative and go a little off script. Optional bonus challenges and objectives will reward more creative builders and add more replayability.

An important detail with the different materials of ropes is the node spacing. Basically it controls how far apart the points (that collide with stuff) are so you could probably use ropes, cables or whatever if you adjust the settings some.

the not coiling properly issue happens irl as well, and to prevent that a lot of industrial winches either have guides, often just a centering holes, but for some applications it moves with where the rope or cable is wanted on the spool, because if it bunches then slides, not only can it massively change the forces on the winch's moter, but it can form knots and tangles

I dont have the game to test it myself, but I noticed with ropes in the beggining at first you attached the base to your vehicle and later was the base attached to that remote block. Maybe that was why it was behaving differently?
@Prince_Asuda

I was about to comment the same thing myself. I suspect that the 2nd attachment point might be slightly weaker or that the physics might get more unpredictable the further you go along the rope from the source. It would be an interesting test for him to revisit.

Something I noticed was that the chains only seemed to phase through, when you creation was in contact with a building. It shouldn't have phased when you lowered the saw onto the building, it was able to pull it up and let it down without problems before that but when it touched the building it started phasing.

By the looks of it the Cain might not have actually have been phasing through but was instead getting twisted, look at the spiral pattern at 10:57. This also makes more sense as to why the wrecking ball was twisting around so strangely at 10:41.
@wyrmwarlock
@wyrmwarlock Жыл бұрын
If you watch closely, it's twisting because it's slipping through. That's genuinely so much more interesting because it implies that you could use chain as the engine for a torsion grabber that rips out individual chunks from the building.

7:00 "How did it get longer when it should have already been at its shortest?" As you just said a second ago, everything tightened, and the "excess" was pulled out by the weight, causing it to pretty naturally extend. That is probably what happened the first time. Every time after that it was just phasing through.

Winches do not naturally go back and forth, most coil storages have something to manually move the rope/cable/wire/hose/chain coming in back and forth evenly as it comes in. In this game, I think a sliding piston would work perfectly

Something to try is a trick that used to work on some physics engines, you could try duplicating the axle of the winch and making some of those copies a little larger, that makes the engine evaluate them multiple times for the collision calculation and may improve the accuracy.

The sawblade arm would probably be lighter if you made it out of a different block or even a flex beam. Might work better with the winch that way and it wouldn't get caught on the gap made by the saw either.

Put two chains on it. Just add another one to the opposite end of the spool, to the end of the boom. I wonder if having double chain would give more power. You could also add additional spools - like dual spool with 4 chains on a single boom, by building them horizontally to each other, one entire spool per side of the boom.

So what would happen if you compounded this? Have a pulley pull in a swing arm with another pulley on the end connected to another swing arm, etc for about 4 or 5 arms? Would that compound the speed and therefore make a viable launch platform or would it just break? Though for a video. If one winch won't hold, what about 4? Just wondering.

As you already thought of the bucket-excavator, why not build one? You have the parts & know how to build a winch so that would be a logical step to take. Just make sure to make the end light enough. Doesn't have to be to scale afterall & doesn't have to work great it just has to work.
