The idea of standards being lower now is so wild. There's photos (and even entire TV shows) of tattoos from 10-20 years ago. Anyone who honestly thinks quality has dropped is sooooo far gone with the whole old guy "things were better back in my day!" attitude.

"that guy " is Joe capibianco and he used to be a big name in the industry in the early 2000's famous for his colour pin ups, he seems pissed because he slept on his laurels and now sees all this young guns taking tattooing leagues above what he can do,you stop pushing yourself you fall into oblivion.An apprentice today would make a great tattoer 10 years ago cry himself to sleep and those are facts,and no one should be mad about it it's way easier today, no more gate keeping in the industry, conventions, workshops, one single battery powered machine that does it all when before you had to suffer learning to tune each machine,out the package cartridges that you can swap in 2 seconds when before you welded your own needles and to run 5 needle grouping you'd need 5 machines, internet for reference material and stencil printers that print wirelessly in a couple seconds when before most tattoers didn't even had a printer so you'd need to go to a shop to print from a book or drawing and hand stencil after, social media to peek thousands of other artists work, i mean, OF COURSE they gonna get good faster, shame on them if they don't! Joe had absolutely no problem selling DVD'S with basic information that encouraged scratchers 15 years ago and NOW he's worried about apprentices 🤣
@NoNameNomad....2 ай бұрын
My ex was a self taught tattoo, we were ony 18 and he used to message Joe all the time for advice (he was a huge fan and had a pin up punk girl tatted by him) anyway, he was a nice enough guy, always emailing back. He was in the US and we were in the UK and he'd give my ex advice all the time for free too. I do like his work, but I completely disagree that the standards have dropped. Thee are a lot of tattoo shops now, but ive been tatted by an apprentice who had only been tattooing for 6 months (phenomenal work) there's an old dude been tattooing 40 years in my city (he messed my mums tat up 30 years ago and mine 20 years later) He's never improved, that old head mentality 🙄
@inb42302 ай бұрын
@@NoNameNomad.... he was a pretty easy going guy and a very good tattoer but as i said he used to be pretty famous,he's done a few DVDs back in the day and even some TV stuff I think, but apparently he didn't take lightly that he's fallen into irrelevance a little bit. I talked about "one trick pony " tattoo artists many times,he only did one thing over the years walking that comfort zone because there weren't many people doing it, now there's a million young artists that'll take what joe capobianco did and take it to another level and you can see in this it's getting to him. The last 10 years tattooing has evolved more than the previous 60,absolute legends in the game like Aaron Caine, samohin, Paul booth, devries,aitchison, Jack ruddy, bob tyrel,barth and so on, those people were GODS a few years ago and now they won't even compete in tattoo conventions because THEY KNOW they'll lose badly to someone that wasn't even born when they started.Wich should be expected when they are taking all the information those guys collected in a span of 30+ years through suffering and banging their heads in a year or so and just building on it.Joe is talking from resentment, the quality of tattoos today compared to 15 years ago is not even measurable, there's a reason why blackouts, cover ups and laser are so popular

I don't agree with everything Joe or whatever his name said, but I can say that I saw this happening 10-15 years ago around Dallas.
