Regardless, hope is a enticement very similar to fear that usually make us get stuck waiting for something else to happen (it's not a casuality that hope and fear usually go hand by hand). "Faith" in this context is like saying that you must encourage yourself to make decissions (of course based on data and your own knowledge), and don't let anything else to do it for you.

JIm was very fortunate to have at least ONE supportive parent. SO many of us had unsupportive parents--who couldnt show anything but worry, conviction and even coldness. Jim's father GOT it--that his role was to love his kids, not to force them to fill in the gaps they experienced growing up.

Whenever you are striving for something, don't think of the many who have it better than you. Think of the many more who have it worse. He had me in tears the whole speech. I find it sad that I got caught up living life and making choices based out of fear. I thought I was being strong by living life and not worrying about how unhappy I am. Just doing what I thought was the next practical choice. Living like this led me to such unhappiness, I gave up. Fear had led me to try ending my own life. When that did not work I started using drugs. For who ever this may help, I made choices and lived for fear. It almost led me to my own death. Today I try to make choices out of love for myself and the people around me. Scariest part about it, I didn’t realize how I was living my life until it was too late. I hope this helped someone. ❤️

The part that got to me, is the one where he said, “Fail at what you don’t want. So you might as well do what you love”. I lived by these words 3 years ago, when I auditioned for The Voice, while I was in school, taking a Algebre class for nursing school. So what I didn’t make it in the show, & got cut in the first round of auditions for the show, but I’m proud of myself for being the first one in my family, to go after my true dream of being a singer. I can’t wait to audition for the show again, & music is worth giving up my “safe job” of becoming a registered nurse. So thanks Jim for this inspiring story, & powerful speech.
