The 2UR-GSE is a great engine. One only gets an appreciation for it when you work on one. The 2UR-GSE on my 2008 Lexus ISF has over 212K miles on it and has only ever been touched by my hands and I'll tell you what, it is a joy to work on. I am a software developer not a mechanic and the fact that I've been able to change the water pump, the valve cover gaskets, high pressure fuel pump gaskets, idler pulleys, tensioner pulleys, and the radiator should tell you how user friendly this engine is. In another 25K miles I'll be changing all 16 fuel injectors and while I'm in there I'll finally get a chance to take care of the infamous valley plate leak if necessary. The 2UR-GSE is an under appreciated engine.

It's sad to think of it ever going away as an evolution of what _built_ Lexus into what they are. Hope they keep the 1UR and 3UR (or evolutions of them) in their trucks too.

There was a guy a couple years ago that bought one with @ 325k on it for I think 8500 it was an 08 and whether it is still running today I am not sure. Their transmission are also bullet proof. Not the quickest on up and down by any means but that's fine. It wasn't even back in the day the fastest. Who cares still an incredible vehicle the ISF is/was.

@@glennnichols4220 For a long time the whole "sealed transmission"/"lifetime fluid" thing really scared me away from touching the transmission. I recently said screw it and changed the transmission fluid and man what a difference! I'm just glad my transmission survived so long with the old fluid. It drives like new again.

Good review. RCF TE has a standard LSD and not the TVD. They wanted the driver to control the full balance so they opted for the LSD. I actually own a TVD/carbon RCF and i agree, the TVD is an absolute blast. Quicker time is due to lighter weight. RCF TE is lighter than the standard RCF around 3800 lbs as opposed to 3900 lbs for the standard RCF.
@2ZZGE100
@2ZZGE100 3 жыл бұрын
@@johngalt5411 Yes, look for the 'TVD' button in the center console that controls all of the modes (standard > slalom > track). That is all you need to check. I have TVD and highly recommend it especially with the carbon package as it reduces the CoG and adds rigidity on the roof. TVD makes the car feel so agile, nimble and steering response is very sharp. Cheers!

I have to admit, I’ve always had a soft spot for the RCF. I really like what Lexus did with this car. However, if I was buying it, I would want them to tie in the F edition blue into the interior. How about white seats with F blue inlays and a matching blue F analog clock? Also find a way to give the face of the watch some blue elements and match the clock in the car. Then you would truly have a unique Lexus RCF befitting of the price of this particular vehicle. Oh and when I buy this specific car, you better give me my watch back MM!

You Rick-Rolled me hard, M lol. I saw the thumbnail and genuinely thought Lexus sent you a JDM car. The watch is a missed opportunity, imo. They could've matched the dial to the dashboard clock with a zaratsu finished case & maybe one of Grand Seiko prized movements. You know, make it distinctively Japanese, like the track it was named after or the Lexus LS. As always, excellent work, M.

Looks like a Seiko NH35 movement. Seiko and its grown up big brother Grand Seiko is a very underrated movement maker. However this NH35 is a bottom of the barrel movement sold to nearly all micro brands making cheap watches that are supposed to look expensive. You can buy the movement for $35 on Amazon. All in that watch has about $60 worth of material. For $100,000 you can ditch the Lexus, buy the infinitely better fully loaded M4 competition, a Royal Oak Offshore, a Patek Philippe Nautilis, and still have enough left over for a pre-owned Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control.

Indipendenat study shows the carbon fiber hood and regular hood weigh .5 of a lb different which is nothing especially when you can buy them aftermarket from Seibon. Especially if you already have a track pack with the carbon fiber wing and roof and TVD . Plus you can buy way lighter wheels from HRE or Brixton . All that meaning you can spend way less and get way more not to mention after market titanium exhaust that weighs less then the factory titanium option exhaust and headers .

Well one could argue the latest Kia K900 is also one of the rarest cars, but mainly because few people know it exists and very few have ever sold. Who knows if there would even be a market for thousands of these at 97k... That's basically supercar money, you can buy a faster mid engine corvette for 30k less? It's a bit much.

Considering the RCF in general doesn’t sell well it makes sense why Toyota collaborated. The Zupra a bmw is outselling the RCF even though people swear up and down the RC is better. Lol. RCF is going to be a legendary car in its own right though
@JDubbs07
@JDubbs07 3 жыл бұрын
@@MaddNomad1015 Toyota didn't make the new Supra on it's own for the same basic reason Toyota doesn't do a lot of things: it's cheap. It arguably even cheaped out when it made the RC, using a hodgepodge of preexisting design work from the IS and GS platforms. They haven't done much to keep it competitive, low volume is to be expected. I can't say I've read elsewhere the RCF is better than the Supra, but perhaps it's redeeming value is that it's distinctly Japanese through and through
@MaddNomad1015
@MaddNomad1015 3 жыл бұрын
@@JDubbs07 yeah I get that but at the end of the day Toyota as a company cares about sales. They usually don’t change things competitively to their own detriment (ie not updating the RC etc.) but that’s always how they kinda always did things. With the Supra doing okay and them not spending a lot of money developing, they should have enough faith to build something in house again.

The only appealing feature is the analog clock on the dash, much nicer than the $102,000 watch. I wish more cars came with this...I am always searching for the clock location on any new car, even after driving it for years - digital clocks just get lost in the array of data presented in the modern dash. Back in the mid 2000's, I liked the Lexus line-up and products, but lately they seem to just be missing something. @@FerasAlhawas I have to disagree here. Reliability issues will inevitably take up time. Time is something that the more demands you have of it, the greater value you assign to it. So if a car doesn’t work as it should, it’s opportunity cost could be unbearable. That can be offset by an air of prestige only to a degree. But even then, the idea of buying an M4 or C63 for prestige is rather comical unless you want to impress mainly some enthusiasts. Which is a small group. KZbin’s own watch time analytics might have automotive content around 1% of its activity. Most OEMs these days tend to make cars that sell well in the automotive equivalent of a Pepsi taste test challenge. A small sample has most people selecting Pepsi, but if they were given a whole can of each, by the time they are done each can statistically most people select Coca-Cola. Lexus as a brand, and how they set up their cars tend to focus on the long term ownership experience than chasing outright numbers or initial driving impressions. That said, I would neither buy this nor an M4/C63 for the money. I would maybe look at a GSF and add a supercharger to it to give it Hellcat pace. It would be a great inconspicuous daily, and hilarious in the fleeting moments where I manage to use near 800hp.

I'm not a Japanese car enthusiast, so $100k for this is mind-boggling to me. I don't know why anyone would take this over a much cheaper M4 Competition, C63 S, or even RS5... at least brand new. I'm sure the Lexus, like all Lexuses, will prove its mettle over the next couple of decades on the used market, but I've always thought even $65k for the base RC F was about $10k too much with its comparatively middling performance. But then again that seems to be the MO for Lexus in general.
