My first thought was that he was gonna ticket me for having my front wheel sticking into the crosswalk. But no, actually a short friendly chat at a red light, from motorcycle cop to rider. What a positive experience. Thumbs up to the CHP.

All of the California Highway Patrol motor cycle Officers get their training at the CHP Academy in Sacramento, Ca. It is one of the best training and arguably the best motorcycle training for Police Officers anywhere in the world. The driving course for patrol cars is the best also.

Bet he either has an Indian or a Harley I don't own a motorcycle but I know people who do though. One of the guys I know decided about a year or so ago to quit because he has lost some friends to idiot motorists. He had one friend who was hit by someone who was texting and driving he apparently got hurt pretty bad. I had at one time considered getting a motorcycle but with the way people with big cars and trucks are on the road I am not so sure I ever will. That said I do my part and give extra room to those on bikes whenever I can especially when traveling on highways and interstates.

Officers are usually exceptional riders and undergo extensive training including learning to spill the bike etc....we had a motor officer, as they are referred to, train our class to prepare for the state endorsement test, and we ALL passed, .his training was so efficient. Got pulled over in my 85" e28 bimmer last summer. Was going home and I knew it but I took a tiny bit of road (500m) from a clean air zone to get on the highway, rather than do a 15min legal way to do the same. I saw a patrol car first cross I passed by, you know that feeling. Looked in the mirrors, beacon flashing coming behind me. I stopped at the light, rolled down the window as I was ready to hear him my fault. I've had conversations with Motorcycle Officers before, and I welcome the opportunity. One County officer and I visited at a railroad crossing, he had many questions and compliments for my restored, fully Vetter Fairing equipped 1983 Kawasaki KZ1100 A-3. Years ago I was in Miami at the same time as the grand prix race in liberty city, so I went down to see what was up. It was an overcast morning that looked as if rain was inevitable as I parked and exited my car. Very few people were on the streets , when out of the mist appeared a mid - evil figure , a motorcycle cop in full riot gear - complete with a shield on the back of his bike along with an array of shotgun,baton, and several radio antenna. The gentleman that stepped off that bike was seven feet tall , armoured leather head to toe capped by a welcome smile and good morning greeting. I spoke with him for several minutes as I was curios about his outfitting . He was not a freeway patrol , he was rapid response crowd control in liberty city. Not that it mattered then or now but him , a very large friendly black man , me average size pasty white guy - a memorable meeting.
