Hi Johannes, GOGO here with a little name change.. If I can comment on the boots, I would recommend staying with boots that aren't waterproof but instead get waterproof socks if you know you will be riding in rain or through water crossings, they will breath much better and once water gets inside of waterproof boots.. well, they're waterproof.. it can't escape :D
@JohannesDalen2 жыл бұрын
Hey there my friend, I remember your logo 😁 I agree regarding the boots actually, but these non-waterproof Tech7s almost soak up all the water from the road, so perhaps one of each would be better. One pair for hotter climates (non waterproof), and waterproof ones for Scandinavia.

Check out the inner waterproof layer used in a BMW rally jacket & pants. Works when wet and/or cold. Any over pants always get damaged off-road with the slightest fall.

I had MM Basilisk but for TET or ACT routes I preferred to ride in the Adventure Spec Linesman jacket. It also has an abrasion resistant layer and Kevlar and several pockets. But unlike Mosko Moto, this jacket has detachable sleeves and its own pads - the same as their armored shirt

If you want laminated dual sport pants i think Klim Traverse is the main option. It's a bit lighter than the Carlsbad fit somewhere between Carlsbad and Dakar.
@JohannesDalen2 жыл бұрын
I like the Traverse pants, but I returned them and kept the Carlsbad. Carlsbad will be for adventure-touring, and I think I will pickup a pair of Mosko Moto soft shell pants. They're not as waterproof as a laminated pant, but they offer the stretch which I really like for offroad riding.
@johannescarlsson45592 жыл бұрын
@@JohannesDalen how does the Mosko moto compare to the Dakar pant? I'm running Klim Mojave ITB for dual sport riding, but vents like the Dakar is nice to close on high altitude or cruising home in the cold night (desert & inland gets cold fast at night, not slow like our coaslines) Plus I'm going back to OTB just to prevent splashes in the top of the boot.

Another great video, man! This weekend I had a 400km ride with some friends and we finally got the first rains of the season!.. but has expected, only about 2hours of rain in the whole 2 days, then it was sunshine all the way through :D Modular is the way to go in my opinion. I usually ride with a light adv jacket and carry an "overall" waterproof set to deal with the rain and cold. I think that basilisk thing would be a great addon to my simple kit, since you can use it both over the armor or over the light armored jacket (I suppose). Only a few days left :P
@JohannesDalen2 жыл бұрын
Thank you my friend! Yeah I saw the rain on the weather forecast, it made me a bit worried, but great to hear it wasn’t for long 😁 Okay, so you usually ride with armor integraded in your jacket? What if it’s very hot?

Like the gear talk and the way you are thinking. Great with options for different circumstances. Regarding the boots, i also have heard that theyvare weak at the foot wrists, bjtvi'm happy with my pair and have had them too long... 👀 But still not much degraded. Great boots for ADV. Nice studio Johannes!

Another great video! It'll be interesting to see the gear choices from everyone for the PT trip and hopefully get some inspiration/learnings. I personally like the trend of "normal" looking enduro or dual sport clothing options that are starting to emerge. Riding into tiny remote towns in Morocco looking like Buzz Lightyear made feel rather uncomfortable.
@JohannesDalen2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Jote! Yeah I agree, most of the Klim stuff makes you look like an astronaut - combine that with squeaky boots and you have the attention of everyone. Revit seems to make clothes that scream less "adventure", Mosko Moto too.

i wear an armour shirt and an outdoor goretex pro shell on top if its raining or not warm enough for just a jersey. its perfect for me. 100% waterproof, breathable and it has huge vents. i can even open up the front of my jacket and have my arms still protected against wet branches and i get full ventilation. is it going to survive a crash on tarmac? probalby not but any other motojacket is going to have holes too. at least i can send mine in for repairs. i have crashed offroad a few times and it is holding up very well. 10/10 would recommend

Nice video. Great set-up. Have fun in Portugal. When you upgrade your body armor, I can highly recommend the Leatt 3DF Airfit light body protector. You can wear it by itself in the heat, or with an MX jersey over it, or with a Gortex jacket shell over it in the rain. Or you can wear it underneath a full ADV jacket as it's slim enough (with armour removed from jacket). It's mesh so quite cool in heat and provides good protection for its size/weight and can be worn in a range of different scenarios from Enduro, to Dual Sport or ADV. Well worth the higher price. Cheers

After more than 100 000 km of adventure riding through some 30 countries (TET, BDRs, TAT, etc.) I can tell you that gear is a never ending quest. You try things, keep what works and then your needs will change because you will want to experience traveling in a different way. With that new type of travel will come new gear and the cycle will repeat itself over and over. On another note, for fly and ride, I can recommend the Klim Team gear bag. Very nice affordable and sturdy bag for your gear. The bag has wheels, a must for carrying that heavy bag around airports. Even though the bag exceeds airline dimensions, I never had to pay a surcharge for it's dimension, nor weight (weight may vary with your gear of course). Keep the vids coming, love your content. Cheers from Canada! - Guillaume

Hello Guillaume, thanks a lot for your kind words and greetings from Canada! That's an impressive CV you've got there, much respect to you for getting out there and exploring this beautiful world of ours - it inspires me to do the same. I'm starting to realize that it actually is a never ending quest, I'm sure I'll have another epiphany or two within a year and make another video like this, talking about why I don't like this approach 😅 Thanks for your support my friend!

You would be extremely unlucky to have a lot of rain in Portugal during your trip.😮i have a cb 500 x modified for off road and a nice brother in law with a gs....which I ,,lend,, often.My take on the off-road learning curve is to learn it on a light 150 kg_ish bike .No matter how good /strong/young you are the enjoyment will not increase with the weight/hp/price of the bike but with your ability.I am one off the many waiting for a crf 300 l to to put in his garage😊

Hey, you will love Portugal!! 🤩I rode the ACT Portugal in April, it was amazing, such a beautiful country! 😎🙌 It did get very hot sometimes, I went modular so only had armour and enduro shirt in the heat and added jacket in cold/rain. Went with adventurespec Mongolia pants. Vids on channel if any use.. I’m not very experienced rider so ACT was tough enough. TET would be too hard for me at the moment.

Great video Johannes! Would be great to get a review of the Klim Carlsbad gear in the near future. I am currently planning to buy it too. Don't want to hassle with rain gear in rainy Germany.
@JohannesDalen2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Michael! I will make a review as soon as I have sufficient time with them. Based on the research I’ve done online and just wearing the Carlsbad gear at home it feels very solid. It’s heavier than the dual sport gear that I am used to, but the heaviness comes from the Goretex laminate and the very high quality nylin fabric they’re using. Badlands felt a bit too much, and Traverse a bit too thin - the Carlsbad felt just right.
