Oh, it must be Sunday, Roger's back! Part two of a very good Ramble. It is amazing what knowledge is still availabe if we take the time to search a little more intensive for it. It's good having people like you to preserve our past with videos like yours, as it were, especially if one such person is from this area, and indeed all around the north east. We tend to keep or restrict our search for historical tit-bits to the bigger Towns and Cities. Thanks once again for taking the trouble to do this and open my eyes and interest for the more remote historical facts and happenings from the country of my birth in gone by times, as well as from an area i'm not at all familiar with. Also thanks for the very interesting facts about your Sparkbrook. I had wondered last Xmas what exactly that bike was in your man cave, and if it actually functions.

I love digging around for historical stuff about the little villages, I think it gives us a more balanced insight into our heritage rather than that of the bigger towns and cities. The Sparkbrooks created a fair bit of interest. Cheers.

Another great episode of localish places & history. I believe when the Hemsworth colliery closed, Kinsley drift mine was developed either on or close to the site.

Very interesting commentary as usual. It’s always very apparent how hard life, was for the working classes, back in those days. Makes me grateful that I wasn’t around to endure the hardships of being a miner or any of the other life shortening manual occupations which one had little choice of entering. Would love to see a little more of the Sparkbrook, a bike I never knew existed. Perhaps in a future episode ?

Thanks. Yes, many moan about how tough things are now but I think bits of history like this tend to put things into perspective. I'm glad I wasn't having to survive a couple hundred years ago. May well look at doing a video about the Sparkbrook later in the year, good suggestion, thanks. Cheers.

Excellent background info as usual Roger. That 'hospital' truly was a horrific place. I worked in S/Yorks collieries & mining history is of great interest. I spent a year on strike in '84. The workhouse at Southwell in Notts is worth a visit if you're out that way. Thanks!

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. The wife went to Southwell workhouse a while ago and said how interesting it was, looks like I'll have to arrange a visit. Her father and other family members worked down the pit so I can appreciate just how hard it was. Cheers.

Were you aware of the Sparkbrook’s history when you purchased it? Or was it a nice surprise when you found out it was the same one you had viewed years earlier? Either way , it’s nice to have to knowledge of an older machine’s history. 👍
