It was cool of him to let you film. Suspension is the best investment. It will make you faster than any exhaust or ECU chip.

Good vid! I too was amazed at the change in the riding experience with ear plugs. I cannot ride without them now. Riding is so much more peaceful and zen like with plugs. I tried many out and frankly the soft foam ones are the best and also the cheapest! Many others are not nearly as comfortable over longer rides.

just test drove this beauty a few weeks back. love the bike’s look, style and engineering. have owned an oldish pristine 96 R1100R for 6 yrs and really love it but, got hot for this on first glance. this beast is beautiful but, i found myself fighting it in twisties and low speed maneuvering. my first thought was bar height and position. the pure had me in a forward lean which made me and the bike feel sketchy. chatted up the dealer and we covered much of what you were getting from this dude. also looking forward to the post suspension mods for your feedback. great vid!

Thats awesome! Thanks for sharing your story. The 96 R1100R has some similarities (visually) with the nineT, I could see how it captured you. My suspension mods will most likely be sometime next year unless I sell my kidney lol. Thanks for watching!

Top video.. the things he considers are so interesting. It makes sense though. The bike comes from the manufacturer built for everyone. So to improve it you need to make adjustments just for you

crazy how most people don't think about their body and riding position and riding techniques before upgrading the components. motorcycles are more like bicycles in this regard than cars. a good rider can ride a stock bike faster than a bad rider can ride a tuned bike...

On any new street motorcycle that you buy with standard suspension feels like this with time, best investment is to upgrade it, I did mine with HyperPro street suspension package and my bike is a hole new bike, now it handles the way it should be, overall cost including installation was about 800$, not a lot money for good quality product.

Could you describe your final adjustments he did to the rear shock? How many adjustment threads are showing at the top of the shock to the the top locking nut? I have about 5 threads shiwing on my new Pure. What was the adjustment on the damping screw? Like how many turns from full counter clockwise, for example. Does the damping adj screw "click" when turned, so you can count the clicks?

You had no static sag (nor do I) and the rider sag is already at the limit, what exactly did he adjust (preload and dampening) for you to later say the suspecsion was better?

Looking at a R9T Pure also.How comfortable do do find the seat? My concern about the bike is how comfortable the seat and riding stance will beSomeone commented after 30 minutes, it feels like your sitting on plywood.How long rides do you take?Have you given some thought about a handlebar riser spacer?Has the seat "broken in" for you at all since you bought it?
@sidestand6 жыл бұрын
My seat has broken in quite nicely! The longest I've ridden was 8 hours and have no complaints! Also, I have no plans to add a riser as I'm pretty comfortable with my position. Good luck with your buying journey, thanks for watching!

I don't believe that 190 pounds is too heavy for the stock spring. The bike is designed to take a heavier rider than that (say 16 stone) PLUS a pillion so I can't see BMW fitting a spring that won't even cope with 13 stone!
@iwasherefirst7867 жыл бұрын
Forgot about the suspension there’s something very wrong with the sky in California. It’s way too bright and very dry and you seem to have this big shiny yellow thing in the sky wtf is that. I’m from England and I’ve never seen that before 🧐

Call me a sceptic, but telling a 190lb guy that the (presumably stock) spring on his bike isn’t right for him doesn’t ring true for me. If you were 240 lbs, then maybe. Or 130lbs. But I can’t imagine BMW deciding that they were going to set up their bike at the factory so that a very average weight of 190lbs was out of scope, or at least not manageable by adjusting the suspension. From what I know, the average American male weighs about 197lbs, so if true this would mean that BMW is selling a bike that is incapable of being set up for an average rider. Manufacturers get sued for stuff like this in expensive class actions, so they tend to be all over it and it’s clearly in their best interests to get it right.
@sidestand4 жыл бұрын
I can mirror the same thoughts you have regarding the manufacturer spec’d suspension. In the interim, I’ve managed to drop my weight 10lbs. Thanks for the comment!
@johnDukemaster7 жыл бұрын
I tilted my bars forward too. :-) Hmm...I weigh the same as you... He seems like a man who knows his business...but is it overkill? This suspension/spring business. I mean, is he preparing the bike for track standards? Couse I like a bike that's comfy aswell. Follow me? :-)
@sidestand7 жыл бұрын
Yes he's quite reputable! I've been having a constant battle with myself regarding this. I guess I could find the right balance with "proper" heavier springs. I plan to ride with the stock setup for a little while longer and make some finer tweaks with the rebound adjuster until I can save my pennies.
@johnDukemaster7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I know exactly what you mean. Being in the hands of experts can be tricky!
@gtx3326 жыл бұрын
This guy is the suspension tuning guru. Yes, he does tune for the track, but also for whatever you use your bike for. Making sure suspension is set up for you specifically is fundamental and in no way overkill. Can you ride a bike that's tuned for someone else? Sure, but its far from optimal, much like wearing a jacket that's 2 sizes too large or small - possible but not ideal.
@Dutchificationable6 жыл бұрын
I weigh about 205 suited and changing my springs to a good new progressive spring really impacted the way the bike feels and handles massively. I dont think i can ever buy another bike without that being the first purchase in mind

He's awesome, with that being said, it's pretty shitty of BMW to make their standard setup not even be able to handle 2 up. That bike should be able to ride right at your weight. Maybe not mine because I'm a fat bastard at 6ft 4, 285, but 190lbs and needing stiffer springs? I think you have the stripped downed R9T, the high end model must have higher end suspension? Man, this just warned me away from the R9T as a big guy.
@CBRboy17174 жыл бұрын
Woefully too soft at 190lbs???? Christ, I was thinking about one of these as my backup ride. I guess I will need to budget a new shock because I'm obese compared to you. LOL

Waste of time watching depends on how you ride and road conditions,Ok so he knows it all about set up,For what conditions nise new roads or a race track,You cam get stock suspension hard enough to take off if you hit a bump in the road fast I've done it,So just read the hand book and try a few settings it's easy enough to do yourself that guy is making a fortune mixing every fucker up about it all.
