same for me too.. just bcos of those fugly headlights.. even though they finally got rid of those now for this 1300, i'll never get a GS just bcos they kept it so long.. too little too late.. many other better choices.

@@PLo312 I went from a Gixxer thou, to a Triumph Tiger, to a FatBoy, to a KTM 1290S, finally to a '23 model GS Rallye and it was the best decision I've made. The previous model is a fantastic bike. If you're still in the track day racer poser phase then I understand the attitude. When that wears off, you'll be surprised what you buy. I know, I was there once.

@@bensmith7536meh, it’s not a matter of being a trackday racer poser, some of us just have fun riding a more comunicative and fun bike. The GS is quite disconnected feeling.

I admire BMW's commitment to R&D. The Japanese manufacturers used to be the gold-standard for this but I just don't see it in them anymore. Lots of the tech is way above my head: I use hardly any of it on my R1250RT despite it being fully-loaded, but I like the fact that the company wants to be at the cutting edge. Nice, clear explanation. Thanks.

Unfortunately all of that German over-engineering translates into more reliability problems. You'll still have much fewer issues with a Japanese bike

@@luisdetomaso867 I've had repeated electrical issue with my 2019 R1250RT and had it at the dealer four times and it was never resolved so recently traded it and would not buy another BMW. My 2011 R1200R was bullet proof. More tech is not better.

Spoken like a BMW owner. 😂 I’ve owned a GS, put 55k miles on one…..and it’s a fine bike until the issues of its over-engineering rear their heads. At that point, Bring My Wallet becomes the reality. Say all you want about the Japanese brands but almost all of them don’t change an oil filter design every couple years for no reason, have major mechanical sensitivity that need “tuning”, or “adjusting” or parts that cost the moon for simple fixes or normal maintenance. 🤷🏻‍♂️✌️

@@Pcfly I had an R1200R for seven years with no issues - loved it but too cold in winter so I swapped to an R1250RT in 2019. No issues with that either. I ride all year and can do London and back (460 miles) in a day. Where is the FJR? The GTR? Killed off because their manufacturers couldn't be bothered to design their way around the enviro regs - PATHETIC! Where is the Trophy? I should also add that BMW has the greatest commitment to shaft-drive saving owners money and time on chain & sprocket sets. Honda 1100 tourer and KTM 1290 with chain drive? PATHETIC!

The best review I've seen so far. Very even-handed. I bought my first GS (R1150GS) in 2001 and have ridden it a lot both touring and off-road. The newer 1200 and 1250 versions did not inspire me due to their bulk and weight. As I have aged, my ability to handle a heavy bike has diminished. I rented a 2021 1250 in Spain and rode from Barcelona to San Sebastian up the Costa Brava and through the Pyrenees Mountains and back. I enjoyed the new features, including the riding modes, better shifting, and power increase over my old oil head. However, I found myself wishing the bike was a bit lighter and more nimble. The new 1300 seems to meet my needs in the redesign to be smaller, lighter and more powerful. It may finally be time to upgrade!
@dougiequick1
@dougiequick1 9 ай бұрын
Is the 1300 REALLY any lighter? Spec wise yes but they apparently removed items that if added back would leave the weight the same? Meaning you could strip those same items OFF the 1250 and have the same weight? Seat height is the same? what is "smaller" now? Yes all new design but WHERE is it more compact other than slimmer at tank/knees? Guess I have to ride one ....which right now is impossible

Agreed with other comments (I just picked up my GS13 Trophy yesterday). Without the “pro” suspension, but with case/head protection, skid plate, and center stand even BMW state mine weighs 550lbs wet. It is noticeably less bulky in the front though. Check it out, but watch the options if weight is a concern. And make sure you get those forged wheels 🤘🏼

A big change from BMW towards the market of people who always wanted a GS but feel intimidated by its size. It’s a bold move with the new design and a bit like marmite but whether you like it or not, so far from all the reviews I’ve seen from various motorcycle journalists it looks much better, easier to ride and manoeuvre and it will sell! I'm not a GS kinda guy. But,,, when BMW does the makeover to the RS I'll do cart wheels to my local BMW dealer with cash in hand. Been enjoying my F900XR as a sport tourer daily and it's good. My Honda NT1100 is my primary comfort long distance tourer and it's good, but a R1300RS looks to be my ultimate objective handling the duties of both bikes I have now.

Good question. Maybe I can overlook the funny starfish if the illumination/cornering feature is improved, but somehow I doubt it, just too small a light fixture to have improved I'm guessing. It did save a bit of weight though. And perhaps due to the small size and angle a headlight protector is no longer required.

Well, I just did the test ride today. Power was good, but shifting at least on the test bike was an issue, causing the bike to jump occasionally with shifting. The test bike, with all extras, felt really heavy! Definately heavier than expected. The question is, is this the right approach and for who? This bike in my opinion, has less presence, less comfort, less room for pillion and smaller paniers. The suspension in sport mode was jumpy on B roads, in road mode was better. I really missed the plush ride and the feeling of the 1250 gs though, the 1300gs feels more like a sport tourer, not like an adventure bike.

I am the owner of a BMW F800GS, I am considering to get a new bigger bike, R1300GS is simply not for me... I am more biased to the old 1200´s or 1250... The price of a new 1250 is simply a lot of money that I am not sure if I am willing to spend (cost of the bike, luggage, insurance...), so I have started to look and consider an Africa Twin 2023 -- 1100cc maybe the Adventure Sports. Anyway seems that BMW wants to move into that direction making the 1300GS narrower...

It’s certainly the bike of the moment here in the Uk but I am expecting the Honda AT adventure sports to give the BMW 1300 some competition next year. With a reduced front wheel size and a lower centre of gravity for improved road use, plus increased torque the AT will be highly anticipated. It’s interesting that Honda feel increased torque rather than outright HP is the way to go but as a tourer it should be spot on.

Great video! I just would like to say that I owned a V4S and the handling was poor…the rear shock (however I dialled it in) seemed under sprung. I fitted Road 6 tyres and an Ohlins damper to try to firm it up from its hideous mid corner wallow but I really should not have to do that on a 24K bike! I’m 100 kilos plus kit and ride hard through the corners…I also tested a 1290sas and that had a hideous speed wobble at 130… The telelever set up for me is far superior to that of any other manufacturer.

Again, MCN surpasses other road tests, with informative and precise review. Looking at buying one and took one for a ride. I like the ride height adjustability for this 175cm hobbit!

I saw a brand new one barely days after its release. I was underwhelmed. It reminded me of a V-Strom.

I dig it. Looks like it went on a major diet and stopped looking like a two wheeled tank. Kinda futuristic now too. Sleek and sexy. Waiting on the 1300rs though.

Nobody will ever take this bike seriously for off road though, that flat engine will make sure of it. Immediately when you look at the bike and you imagine it off road, you also imagine it dropping it on one of its engine heads and that's enough to say nope.

@@fs5866 huh? I'm absolutely sure bret tkacs and big rock moto have done exactly that though. It ain't a ktm but it'll do it. Plus adding 30lbs of crash protection.

I rode a GS a couple of years ago. Any improvement on that bike would be welcomed. Even so I have read that the gearbox is still “agricultural”. And the clatter from the engine is grating after a while. Only my opinion of course and I know how many people I may have offended by saying this but there are better bikes out there.

As a fan of 19 inch front wheels on my heavy ADVENTURE bikes (rather than the 21 inch I have on all my dedicated DIRT bikes such as enduro/trail/trials bikes) this is the part I don't get, if Triumph (example 2024 900 GT Pro) or any other manufacturer including Ducati and Moto Guzzi, fit a 19 inch wheel on their big adventure bikes, then apparently their products are ENTIRELY a "road focused" ONLY adventure bike and by extension, considered utterly USELESS off -road. However, If BMW fit a 19 inch front wheel on their new 1300 GS, then suddenly " The Best Adventure Bike" in the entire world? Explanations please?

El. Preload adjustment is not possible, i find that strange. Also, the difference between soft and hard damping is minimal. On the Multi V4s, the difference between the 5 damping settings is like night and day, and you can adjust preload in 24 different settings, or leave it in auto. That's how el.suspension should be like.
