AS A fellow restorer I would pull all the Interior and drive line and put them on your straight body. THe shell that is now on the pulling rack can be cut into salable pieces, or sell it whole to another Mustang resoreer for parts that he may need complete his projects. With the rusted areas that you encountered on your basic pull tells me there is much more hidden rust

For sure this will be a challenge but it is worth saving. I would say that you convert this to a fast back as they sell all the sheet metal you need to fix this body. With your skills and vision you could have a beautiful Fastback!

Truly as you said its "not worth" repairing, but the content would be awesome and maybe you can give it a second chance instead of being scrap metal, I think content wise it is worth repairing. Maybe repair the body, and then do a cheap resurrection of it by searching marketplace for cheap parts and build it all custom with whatever engine/interior etc. you can find.

Anything is fixable. It depends on how much money someone wants to spend. All of those parts can be bought to repair it. It's all a matter of cost. But you would think a restored body would be worth a good amount if you are able to save it. Someone would be willing to buy it, who has a running car that is rusted out or a wrecked car. Or maybe someone would contact you to finish it into a runner. Of course that would cost more but i am sure you would look for a good salvage parts car to completed it if that was the case.

I salute your efforts on this classic Stang. Awesome if you can do it.
@carl5536 Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure that you can get the car back to the way it's supposed to be. I'd find myself at least half of the floor with the rocker already hooked to it and cut all the bent stuff off and welder up main floor and panels and it will come together pretty quickly buy adding straight pieces and panels cause it's all metal to begin with, it's doable and be good for a nice looking Mustang that will be as new once again

In my experience older cars don't pull straight very easily. These cars tend to pull the good areas out of alignment when tryng to fix the damaged area, so you'll be constantly chasing your tail to get the car right. Newer cars are designed to be more rigid so damage and repairs can be more concentrated.
@hotranchero Жыл бұрын
When pulling a rocker out such as this, you need to also have another pull length wise at the same time "to break its back" as you will find that if you measure both sides of the frame the damaged side will be shorter.

While my fav is the 1st gen the 2nd gen really did have a much improved interior (unless you had the pony upgrade) . those with the over the head consoles were very futuristic back then. but I hated the steering wheels with the huge horn knob. Had a 68 fastback gt with a 390 in it. and 2 65 coupes, one was pony gt. Loved my old stangs. But that was almost 50 yrs ago.
@darrylowens9298 Жыл бұрын

I'd go for the money here. As a lot of it still holds value, consider these options: - Fix it as a rolling shell (bodywork + spare parts + unpaid work time) - Sell it as is (less income) - Part it out (most work needed, work/profit balance might not be good in the end).

Mark, do you want to take on another project? Waiting to see the BMW finished.
@jlclark13072 Жыл бұрын
I think it is better to wait and see due to the rust. You may have to replace the entire floor pan and the amount of damage on that passenger side. If it's a side project to do then sure why not.
@bravomike09 Жыл бұрын
Anything can be fixed. It's just a matter of how much time, effort, and money you want to use. Is it worth it? Only you can answer that question. The car can be restored to factory spec but that means new apron, core support, cowling side panels, a pillars, rocker panels, floor pans, pretty much anything that got bent. Trying to straighten out those damaged parts will mean that the car probably won't be the same because the damaged metal cannot be fully restored and it will always be damaged. And that's at the molecular level which you don't have to tools for. You can bend all of that back out and It can look okay so no one may notice, but the next time it gets into a fender bender it may fold like a three dollar lawn chair.
