I'm surprised the 70 series wasn't in the lineup. The museum has lots of them including ones that went on all seven continents.
@KakerMix4 жыл бұрын
How far are you guys at Motortrend disconnected from reality? You totally didn't even mention the 70 series. If you gathered up the whole world, and asked everyone what they thought of when you say "Land Cruiser", it would be a 70 series. It's been in constant production since 1984. It is the quintessential ideal of what the Land Cruiser name means, and is the direct replacement for the always-loved J40s. You even showed a Megacruiser which isn't even a Land Cruiser and wasn't ever sold in the USA, so I can't even assume you were only showing US models. Snubbing the 70 series in a documentary about Land Cruisers, when the founder of the museum's personal Land Cruiser he drove on all those continents, is a 70!
@JuskoLord2474 жыл бұрын
Exactly! The 70 series is the real deal. If I would be given a chance to own a 76 & 79, I wouldn't even bother to look at any Land Cruiser models.

Some US americans are so arrogant! Of course there were LC 70 in America - it was even built in Venezuela until the late 80ies. Just not in USA! There are more countries than yours on this planet.
@HighExplosiveSerenade4 жыл бұрын
Actually, the FZJ70 Series with the FZ engine (a 4500 injected beast) was being built until recently in Toyota's plant in Cumaná, Venezuela. And they're probably still building them now, but that I don't know for sure. The Short wheel base FZJ70 is one of the best offroaders in the world and a proud successor of the original FJ40 Series. But it is a pity it never reached the United States. Actually, after the 1990's, the short wheel based 70 Series are really hard to find in places outside Northern Southamerica (Venezuela, Colombia, Brasil, Guyana). I always wondered why did Toyota restricted its production to only Japan, Portugal and Venezuela. I mean, you could buy the long wheel based 70 Series in Southafrica, Middle East, Bolivia, Australia (I think they still sell the pickup and tropper versions here). But the short wheel based FJ70s are pretty exclusive. Never understood why such an amazing and fun vehicle didn't sell in other places of the world.

@@lorenzo5123 My comment was not about if Venezuelans call themselves "american". It was about that the LC70 series exists in whole America, except USA (and Canada), and that there are some more countries on your continent. Maybe you are right, but that doesn't change the facts. And in my opinion it's an US american thing that they see themselves as the only americans. But maybe I'm wrong.

7:08 if the 50-series is the "first SUV", what's an FJ40?
@HighExplosiveSerenade4 жыл бұрын
Well... the FJ40 is actually a "jeep" or GP (General Purpose Military designation, that means: "A four-wheel drive, short wheel based vehicle of one-half- to one-and-one-half-ton capacity for reconnaissance or other army duty") The FJ40 is based on the old Willys and was created using US military specs of the time for GP vehicles.... so it is technically a "Jeep" The FJ55 was a long wheel base "luxury" focused vehicle. It was basically a family station-wagon on a FJ45/47 chassis. Calling it the first SUV is probably not the most accurate description of it, but technically, it is an SUV.
@JordanTheMinecrafter4 жыл бұрын
@@HighExplosiveSerenade huh. That makes sense. I always considered a Jeep an SUV... I didn't really think of an SUV as something with a longer wheelbase than a Jeep because I thought a Jeep was just an SUV. But your argument makes sense. So, then, is a Suzuki Samurai or Jimny a Jeep and not an SUV? And is a first-gen Bronco more of a Jeep than an SUV? (even though the term SUV was originally based on an early bronco?)
@HighExplosiveSerenade4 жыл бұрын
@@JordanTheMinecrafter Good questions! I believe the Suzuki Samurai and the Jimny are Jeeps, but there's probably a better way to designate them. I've heard people call them mini-SUV or compact-SUV, but knowing the military trajectory of the Jimny, I would still call it a Jeep. The First-Gen Bronco may be a little bit trickier, because they were designed as Sports/Utility vehicles. No military specs there, so I would say those early Broncos could be considered SUVs, but I wouldn't call them that... I would refer to them as "Trucks" In any case, the SUV nomenclature is a pretty broad term. Sports Utility Vehicle could be anything: from Trucks to Jeeps and everything in between, and it could be hard to actually define them. I mean... the FJ55 could be an SUV, the same way as a Kia Sportage or a Porsche Cayenne. Really different vehicles under the same umbrella. So I guess you can use the SUV nomenclature the way you want. Is it a utilitarian vehicle used for sports and recreational activities? Then you could call it an SUV...... Unless they are made under military specs, in which case they would use the nomenclature of the mil-spec they are using, like "Jeep" or "Humvee".

You sir are and will be the only driver to take the 200 series off road which is a sad statement for the unintended consumer.

I disagree. Check out the Ih8mud.com Land Cruiser forum, there is a large number of 200 Series owners building them and driving them all over off-road trails. Moab, Ouray, Baja, etc. There are a handful of Heritage Edition builds on the forum currently.
