Was caught in a thunderstorm with five days and nights of continuous rain and hail with 3 friends in the bed of river Indus. We were all in early twenties and were saved by our kerosene stove that burned constantly, keeping the tent comfy and dry all the time. The roaring of wind outside your tent recreated those moments in my mind after almost 20 years! Stay blessed and safe ever!

Just trying to share the experience as best I can. I don’t think I was in any real danger this trip as the low temperature that evening wasn’t too bad. However, I’ve had a tent fail on me in the past in strong winds, so I try to never underestimate the weather or how quickly it can change. I’m pretty confident in the durability of the Hilleberg that I use. I probably wouldn’t have even left the car with any of my other tents. If I did have to hike out because of a tent failure in rainy windy conditions, in the dark, that definitely could be dangerous. I also always carry a personal GPS SOS beacon (Garmin inReach) on me for these types of trips. I may be overly cautious, but I’m a father of two young children so no harm in that! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!

Welcome to the Land of my Fathers! I was brought up in Snowdonia, and this was my back yard. In my childhood, when all my friends were playing football, I would be out exploring my local mountains, solo, and I would estimate that 60% of the Welsh mountain weather was like that… character building! Great video, made me feel homesick!

I really enjoyed this video whereby you have a commentary. I'm an old codger who can't do hill walking anymore and am a little bit deaf. Yeah the wind was pretty intense on this trip but the Soulo took it like a champ. Such a sturdy tent! Can’t go wrong with a steak 👍

Thanks and welcome to the channel! I’ve lived here in the UK for about three years now. The weather definitely took some getting used to coming from the States. Particularly the winds! Definitely requires a sturdy tent but I’ve grown to love it. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment! ATB

I read most of the replies B4 composing the following: This is the first time I've watched one of your videos. Checking, double checking, triple checking the guyline tension & the rocks on top of the pegs is what likely saved the day/night from having your tent blown down on top of you. What have you done to repair the seam leak? Did it work? Couple of tips. When the ground is soggy or I'm preparing for strong gusty winds, I gather up the rocks B4 I start pegging out my tent. This way, as soon as I put a peg in the ground I can reach out & place a heavy rock on top. 2nd tip: When breaking camp, stretch out your guylines to their maximum length, then fold them in half, in half again, in half again, now tie a simple overhand knot which will keep your guyline in a neat lil bundle & ready for the next time. Yes, I'm now a subscriber & I rang the notification bell. My tent is a Hilleberg Enan, I'm 5'3" tall so I have plenty of room inside. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada U.S.A.

Welcome to the channel! Agreed, checking the guy lines is a must in conditions like this! Happy to report I only had to give them 2 good re-tensions on the side receiving the brunt of the wind. The 3mm line Hilleberg uses for their guys on the RL tents is fantastic. Getting the rocks ready ahead of time is a great tip! I had seen a few lying around that I was planning on using immediately but half of them I didn’t realize were half buried and couldn’t be used. Getting them together first just makes sense, and is a good habit to get into. If I couldn’t find enough stones this trip I would have had to move. No way the pegs would have stayed in otherwise. As for neatly putting the guy lines away. All I can say is that I use to put them away neatly, but I’ve gotten lazy. I use to do it when I got home though. Normally I setup the tent in a room, give it a good wipe down and let it dry. At this point I would normally tie the lines but I eventually stopped. I believe in one of my earlier videos you can see I actually have them tied. Haha back when I wasn’t lazy. To be honest I haven’t really found they get tangled too much. I definitely still have to do this on some of my larger lavvus that have really long lines though. Otherwise it’s a tangled mess. After this trip, when cleaning the tent at home, I was able to seam seal the opening in the base of the zipper on both sides. It seems to have solved the problem! really excited for my Enan to arrive! Excited to have a lighter Hilleberg for some longer distance treks! How do you like it? Thanks for watching the video! I really appreciate the thoughtful comments, tips, and the support! ATB

Thank you for taking us along on your trek. I usually avoid cooking in my tent too. But, it doesn't look like you had a problem with ventilation. Nice to see someone else using a Spice Rocket. I like real cooking in the wild but hate doing dishes so I usually have freeze dried meals or dehydrate my own creations at home and the freezer bag cook on the trail. Dish washing . . . lick the spoon. Thanks again for the trek. Beautiful scenery! Thank you for leaving no trace.
@GoingSoloOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
If the weather is cooperative I will always leave the door open when cooking, but even with it closed I’ve found the ventilation to be pretty great in the Soulo! I am not a fan of cleaning the dishes either. If I have a dirty fry pan that can’t be easily wiped clean, I will usually just seal it in a ziplock bag and just wait till I get home to clean it. Making your own dehydrated meals is great! I’ve only ever done Beef jerky or a simple marinara and pasta with my dehydrator. It’s definitely the most convenient way to cook and I agree you can’t beat the ease of dish washing with just the lick of a spoon! Really appreciate you watching the video and taking the time to comment! Have a great week!

I thought it was odd that you said you rarely speak in your videos. Who wants to read commentary on a camping video? Lol. That's like if you and I went on an overnighter, you never spoke, then hand me your journal afterwards. I enjoyed listening to just talk. It made the video much better. Good job, BTW.
@GoingSoloOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
That’s understandable! Up until this point I have just been attempting to capture my trips on camera in the way that I experienced them. Alone just surrounded by the sites and sounds of my environment with the occasional ambient music overlay. There are some KZbin camping channels that do this exceedingly well. Like Erik Normark or Swedwoods. I was worried talking would ruin the trip for me personally, but now that I have talked I see that it hasn’t and I will be continuing talking on these trip when appropriate. I really appreciate you taking the time to give me feedback and for watching the video of course! ATB

Just found your channel and this vid. Great job! I haven’t watched your other videos but I enjoyed hearing you talk. I have 2 Hillebergs and showing my wife this video helped justify the purchases. I subscribed, keep it up!
@GoingSoloOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Welcome to the channel! I also talk in my next video and will continue in future videos. The Hilleberg is overkill on most of my camps, but I’ve always told my wife you don’t need it until you need it. On this trip I was happy to have it as I’ve had other tents fail on me in bad weather and that’s no fun. I’ve also been able to pitch it on only rocks (like in my Jurassic coast video) and because the floor is so durable I don’t really worry about it! I personally think investing in your big three is always a good decision. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching and the support!!

Subbed on this one. Just how I remember Wales. Wet windy Wales. Impressed with your tent and cook set. Worked well in the conditions. You’re brave or mad I’m not quite sure but I enjoyed the adventure.
@GoingSoloOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
😂 It wasn’t most relaxing conditions for a camp, but the Hilleberg Soulo excels in these windy wet conditions. I was pretty confident it would be fine. However, off camera, it was pushed a little more than I’ve experienced in the past. The jetboil is a pretty solid cook kit for this kind of trip. This was the first time I’ve used their skillet which I was thoroughly impressed with. Being able to just wipe it clean was really nice! Really appreciate the support!

Have a leaking hilleberg myself, the anjan 2. One of the porch elastic attachment to hold the door open leaks. A new tent , the Akto , supposeldy leaks at the botom of the top vent, not used it yet though. Got an akto to be different as everyone else and their granny has a Soulo, most likely because they are chicken.
@GoingSoloOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I was able to fix this leak with a little seam sealant at the end of the zipper. Everyone does seem to have a Soulo but it’s just a great all around tent for UK weather. I also had a small leak on an elastic loop for the tent fly on my Unna but I have since fixed that as well. Kinda stinks these little leaks had to be fixed but these tents still perform better than any of my other tents. Fortunately my Nammatj and Enan haven’t had any issues though 👍. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

I have never had any problems cooking in a tent as long as... as you say... there is good ventilation. I mean... it is easy really, err on the side of caution. Open every vent, and if it is windy enough you have air coming through and out. If it isn't windy enough, open up your tent. haha. :D.
@GoingSoloOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Yeah you definitely have to be cautious but with good ventilation and some care it can be done safely. With the weather here in the UK you often just don’t have much of a choice either. Appreciate the comment!
