I moved to Maine in 1982, and I met an older guy who had been mining for 20 years. We ended up being mining partners and went to 12 different mines over a period of 14 years. One of those mines was the Harvard Quarry, and I remember how steep it was. We went to the Dunton Mine in Newry many times, and I always remember the great view from that mine.

There are a few locations I know of here in the west that I go to get schorl, but the crystals you collected are better than what we typically get here. Nice!

It's a bit of a hike up but it's beautiful And totally worth it for what you'll find.

It used to be an easy short hike until it was exploited and disrespectful out of staters ruined it...

I have lived in Maine all my life. Just over the past 3 years I have broke into the prospecting, rock hounding and metal detecting world. Wish I did sooner. A mineral that I don't hear many people talk about finding in Maine is andalusite. Have you found any?
@Brian_the_Rockhound Жыл бұрын
Honestly I would have no clue. I may in my pales of things I've collected waiting to be cleaned. I have like 12 totes boxes n buckets of stuff from different places I don't have the time to ever go through. Wish I did lol

Im a Maine'ah. Another place is in Greenwood Maine. Its the Waisanen/Taminen quarry mine. I was married to a Waisanen. The hike in is easy/minimal.

@@gaillawrence3106 I’ve collected at both of those mines they’re right next to each other, pretty neat stuff there too. I’ve been there while Frank was blasting at the Weismann 2 different times. It’s actually how I found out about the Harvard. Met my buddy geo Jim for the first time same day too.
