He’s right about hitting the muscle twice. Disagree with his point that it’s too hard to take every group to failure in a single workout. It’s really not that hard since there aren’t many sets. One good warmup set, one set to failure. If you are doing 2-3 warm up sets, the volume does get to you. Except for squats and deadlifts, and those I don’t recommend taking to failure.

I love John's approach to this topic. Personally I do a PPL on an 8 day rotation (3 on 1 off.) It's a lot of volume but the second time around I definitely take my foot off the gas a bit. You just have to approach each day differently, if it's my main leg day and i'm not feeling it, I don't push myself. Conversely if I have a scheduled off day or if I just feel great on a day I only have 3-4 lifts, I do more. John's advice was instrumental in figuring out the routine that worked best for me.
@ditz3nfitness2 жыл бұрын
Just switched form PPLPPLR to PPLRPPLR, and I can only agree with you! I tore myself a part for months during the 6x days in a row to the point I actually got a lower back strain which I'm still dealing with even after taking a week off. I'm now focusing more on recovery rather than only focusing on the progress in the gym. Fitness is a part of your life, it's not life which is a part of fitness :)

I’m going through this right now and definitely think that rest day in between the splits is essential. I also do Push Pull (with some hamstrings) REST Push Pull Legs (main focus leg day) REST that way I can get all the frequency & volume in a 7 day split cos I hate havin alternating rest days lol

I like his videos, but rather than heaping on platitudes, does anyone ever talk about the content? His view on training total body is spot on. It would take 4-5 hours to properly do a whole body pump. You are moving blood from one body part to another, and exhaustion would occur half way through, especially if your natural.

How did the NEJM measure muscle mass though? Probably by using DEXA, which looks at fat free mass and thus includes water weight. If test increases water retention, that could explain the increase in “muscle mass” among the enhanced untrained group.

If you want it for growth, I wouldn't recommend it, but I've always avoided it... After a few years, having problems with my health since birth, it turned out I do suffer from low test, and I got on prescribed because it released me from a good amount of symptoms. Then I can say it's 100% worth it.. although not all docters know how to handle this situatiolns, so if you want to be sure, go to an endocrinologist... If you don't have issues, stay away from it, because you might create problems. Long answer, sorry, but I couldn't give you a shorter one...

I find it very hard to believe that they gained 4 lbs of "muscle" just from taking test and no workout. 4lbs of water weight, sure, but not muscle. If they were not working out, there would be no stimulus for growth.

I'm believer on intra workout EAA's, I noticed a positive effect since I started implementing them. BCAA's on the other hand, never gave results for me. I do however believe more in EAA's when used when in a caloric deficit, that's why I started implementing them in the first place. When I went back to maintenance I kept implementing them and so far I'm still happy about it. I don't do bulks though, I tried those 2 times and it does not work for me. Now I try to gain on maintenance or a very slight surplus. There can be days I'm in a deficit though so for those days the EAA's are most beneficial I think.

@JustSomeDude312 жыл бұрын
@@zero2hero99 I buy unflavored EAA"s and I mix them with Bolero Lemonade (it's sports lemonade without sugar) I also have unflavored creapure creatine and beta alanine. I never buy flavoured supplements, and I always mix them with Bolero, works like a charm in my opinion.

@@JustSomeDude31 I got the unflavored powder from BulkSupplements and it calls for two tbsp and I’ve tried mixing it but the taste is just overwhelmingly bad. I’ll give it another go
@JustSomeDude312 жыл бұрын
@@zero2hero99 I got them from Myprotein, maybe the taste is different? although I think the flavour regardless should be close to gross for both of em? I always do two full scoops (and i always weigh the scoops also, 10 grams total, 7 grams is a serving size) and I honestly never mixed them with something other than Bolero though. So it could be the bolero lemonade powders (which are super sweet in my opinion) mask the grossness fairly well, it however makes the lemonades a tad more bitter or something. Bolero has like 40+ flavours I think and some flavours dont work well mixing it. But I tried: Passion Fruit, Exotic, Mandarin, Raspberry, Mango, Peach and Pina Colada, they all worked well, Coconut flavour however, absolute no go. PS: I buy the Bolero Sticks which are for 500ml bottle, but I use one bolero stick for 900ml's of water.
