I'm assuming the 10 million clicks figures are for testing. In theory, They put it under a clicking machine that clicked 10 million times, which is only a couple weeks of constant clicking. This figure means almost nothing, because It has nothing to do with the real world operating conditions of the switch. You're hitting the switch on an angle, with more force, there's temperature cycling.

I knew a bit about these switches but not how much of a difference there was in lifespan. Been doing a deeper dive on this as I'm trying to figure out the difference between a couple mice I own and why I prefer X over Y and that led me here. Going to have to dig a bit further as it seems mouse switches can get as complex as keyboard switches, just overall a lot less variety. I see another commenter mentioned it but apparently not running switches at spec can also cause them to fail prematurely or act erratically which is a thing with some logitech mice.

I have been using a Logitech Wireless Track Ball mouse for years. I have replaced the micro switch's 2 times so far. Both tines I have used Omron switches and I get a little over 2 years out of them. I have been in the electronics field for over 50 years, I was not aware of the color coding or the force ratings. Next time round I am going to use Cherry brand switches. Thanks for the education, from now on I will put the info to good use. 🙂

I will look out when I buy replacement switches, thanks. I started to do some research when my friend whom I play video games with had the double click problem develop. No more than two days later I developed the same problem. Something felt cheap/fishy about it. Well, I took it apart and put the slightest amount of Ballistol (lubricant/cleaner) on the contact of the switch, and I no longer have the double clicking problem. Obviously the problem seems to be with the quality or type of contact material used. We'll see how long this solution lasts.

This is great to know. I wonder if kailh or anyone makes switches smaller than that. I’d like to modify the dpad on my controller to use micro switches

Apparently this sometimes is not only a problem with quality of the switches being used in modern mice, but also that switches are being used that are actually specced wrong for the load of the circuit they are used in. If you've got over an hour (!) to spare Alex Kenis has done a deep dive on the subject. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGalmXh5i9F-gKM

Hi you have shown 3 types of switches but only shown examples for the LOW FORCE SWITCHES, do you have any recommendations or models for the MEDIUM and HARD FORCE SWITCHES? That would be great.

NEVER BUY OMRON SWITCHES and Logitech is the dumbest company to put these in most of their mice. Omron D2FC - China (Bad ones) Omron D2F - Japanese (Good ones) I'm using Kailh GM 8.0. Really good.

Logitech doesn't want their products to last. They use the cheap one so people will replace them more often. They know what they are doing. Same happened with car manufacturers.

@@jinw8974 They know that we don't know the difference in switch quality. And even if we do, there's no way to see what's inside before we buy. So yeah....

@@tsbrownie Most users don't know this much about mouse so they ended up replacing the whole mouse. We can say that Logi's tactic is working for their intended purpose.
