After watching this video again I love how Doug NEVER, not even once mentions the jokes being in bad taste or going too far. He points out the flaws in the writing, especially how each sketch is based on one single joke, but he's accepting the premise of the joke without batting an eye. He doesn't say anything about the iBabe sketch being potentially sexist, he doesn't say anything about the basketball sketch being potentially racially insensitive, when Anna Feris says "will you poop on me?" He doesn't say "what? Ew! Why would anybody want to see a movie about that! It's not funny!" no, he says "This is the joke, right? It's all gonna be poop related?" I feel like by not even acknowledging the shock humor he goes one step further, he doesn't even give the creators the opportunity to say "see? He doesn't get it! We got him! He's disgusted and that's the point, that's the punchline!" No he embraces the joke, but explains why it's badly written.

The weird thing is, this movie came out at a time when lots of other star-studded movies that seemed to focus more on big named actors and actresses than actual movie material so, a lot of people thought it was going to be good like Valentine's Day or whatever. I honestly couldn't get past the burrito scene and was so shocked by the visuals that it didn't even register that big stars like Chris Pratt and Anna Ferris were even in that scene. It really says something when the 'humor' of a scene is so utterly disturbing and distracting that you remember the disgust you felt and completely forget the faces of the actors you saw in that scene. I could honestly remember that movie with any other actor or actress and it would still be the same effect.
@vixxcelacea27783 жыл бұрын

The period “sketch” was actually funny by itself. I’ve seen it on here and had no idea what it was from, so I think he’s right these would have worked as ridiculous internet sketches. Reminds me of those bad SNL movies where they try and stretch a normally 3min sketch in a full length movie. Completely missing it loses its novelty after a few mins.

There were 2 versions of the movie that released. Who is that again? (looks him up) Oh, the guy from Innerspace! Anyway, Movie 43 shows up in his imdb credits but it IS this same movie that it links to, and there's no other version of it listed if you search for the movie by its title... It's weird though. It says that he was in a segment titled 'The Pitch'. The synopsis on imdb describes Movie 43 with "A series of interconnected short films follows a washed-up producer as he pitches insane story lines featuring some of the biggest stars in Hollywood." The imdb page lists him and 7 other people as having appeared in that segment, and the rest of the credits for it list all the same actors and segments that were just covered in this review here. I vaguely recall a lot of the other stuff from the one time a while ago that I watched the movie but I don't remember that Pitch segment and imdb's synopsis is clearly wrong and the review here didn't cover that segment or describe the movie in any way resembling that synopsis.
@MuljoStpho5 жыл бұрын
Wait, looking it up a bit more, the overarching plotline with the 3 kids loosely tying the various segments together, the version reviewed here and which I saw, living in the US and watching a DVD released here... That's the international version? There's a version with the writer trying to pitch these clips as his ideas, and no sign of the story with the 3 kids searching for the clips, and that was supposedly only released here in the US? And where does one even find this US version if not on a US DVD, then? EDIT: I do like the sound of the pitch meeting as the thing tying it all together though. Sounds like it would make the whole thing come across as more like an attempt to imitate in live action the basic idea behind that animation Rejected by Don Hertzfeldt. With the segments getting crazier over time as the writer loses his mind and gets more desperate. The international version's way of tying it all together... feels a lot more forced.

@SidneyBroadshead5 жыл бұрын
That was one of the alternate release versions. Dennis Quaid played a desperate has-been director in a linking device called "The Pitch". He's pitching the sketches as parts of a movie that is never given an actual name. Then the pitch meeting is revealed to be a ruse so he can take the producer hostage. Then the "director" is taken down _Dog Day Afternoon_ -style after killing the "hostage". Then it is revealed to be a sketch.
