As a kid I received this movie as a Christmas present one year. I watched it and immediately knew it was garbage, or at least.........QUIRKY. Of course this was before streaming so I watched it as part of the movie collection a number of times. It's funny how such a strange movie can have a nostalgic part of my heart. I still wonder why Stealer's Wheel allowed their song to be covered in such a horrible way.

Another one of these idiotic 90s kids comedies where a family adopts some weird creature, except that all the humans are cartoon characters who don't behave remotely like real human beings, so your suspension of disbelief is already blown because the creature is no weirder than any of the humans. And my god, the dialogue! The kids don't talk like kids, they talk like adults, which just sounds creepy! The talentless, bottom-feeding hacks who wrote this rubbish clearly have no idea what made good movies with this premise (like E.T.) work, which is that the weird creature exists in a BELIEVABLE world with BELIEVABLE human characters! Instead, they're like "We have to make everyone act like a moron, because kids will think that's funny!" And how sad to see a talented character actor like Donnelly Rhodes wasted in garbage like this.
