Supposedly Star Wars 4K is being released next year (with all the rumors over the years, I won't hold my breath just yet). If they do, it will be more than likely the altered special editions that came out on BluRay. I am hoping for the originals to be released, but with George Lucas not wanting it, and with the amount of time and effort required to restore the original negative, I can't see it happening. The fan 4K release mentioned in the video is called 4K77... it's not so much as a fan edit, but a fan restoration of the 1977 theatrical release, using 35mm film.

Great video! I'm fully with you on King Kong '33 in 4K as that was the film that made me fall in love with films as a kid. As for the lighting, im not sure what kind of space you have to work with but try pushing it back as much as possible to minimize the glare. If you can get them 4-5 feet away.

It really depends on the movie. 4K seems to be a great format for films that were shot on 35 mm, 70 mm, 65 mm or IMAX film strip. With some exceptions, most films since the mid to thousands have been shot digitally. Usually digital films are only mastered in 1080 P. (Also known as 2K) if a 4K copy of such a film is made, it’s an upscale. Upscales of films are controversial because they are not true 4K. Very much false advertising.

I know this is an older video, but from what I've heard, one of Lucas' biggest sins was essentially doing away with the original negatives when making the special editions in 1997. So this is why fan projects like Despecialized have to essentially "recreate" the original version using sources like the Laserdisc. So even if Disney wanted to release the unaltered trilogy, it's not as simple as re-scanning the original negatives, as they sadly don't exist anymore.

Disney will no doubt do a 4k Starwars set when Rise Of The Skywalker releases on disc. Think about all 9 films of the Skywalker trilogy on 4k just like they did with the bluray set back in like 2011.

I would like to see Casablanca, A Night to Remember, etc. Black and White movies would benefit from the superior black levels and HDR. Criterion is now requiring that studios supply them with at least a 4K digital transfer. So, they may be gearing up for 4K,

Jeff, period films might not be your thing, but 'Dangerous Liaisons' and 'A Room with a View' are two beautiful, well-crafted movies that would be strong contenders for a 4k release.

All of Ingmar Bergman, all the great movies of the French Nouvelle Vague and the Italians; Fellini..... Then of course Hitchcock.. Casablanca, Citizen Kane.. Kurosawa, Ozu... OMG, There's so much!!! The Beatles' 'A Hard Day's Night.' I remember the DVD was pretty crisp, and you could see George Harrison's guitar work synchronized perfectly with the audio (in the age where bands just pretended and never matched up in non-concert movies). It would be incredible in 4k.

Akira Kurosawa had Ran restored and mastered in 4K and it was presented in limited cinemas in 4K but I'm not whether they planned to do a UHD release but did put the 4K master on bluray

Dick Tracy (1990) had such an amazing use of color, won 3 Oscars, nominated for 4 more. Disney, if you're listening, this needs a 4k remastered release for the 20th anniversary next year.

New to your channel. Not sure if you have a "movies that should be in blu ray" video, but I would like to know where I can request, suggest, or petition an old movie to be issued in blu ray. The movie is called " The Wonders of Aladdin". Great childhood movie I remember. In color. Very rare even on regular dvd. I hope one day they'll consider restoring it. Also, may I add "The Gods Must Be Crazy" PT.1 & 2.
