This was such an insanely good movie. The trailer made it look like a comedy.
@613harbinger3163 ай бұрын
If you watch this movie, I recommend you also look up the trailer for it afterwards to see part of the reason why it didn't do so well at the box office. Some genius took this movie (whose mood is well illustrated in this scene) and decided to make it look like it was a kind of quirky comedy.
@markw95123 ай бұрын
Well, it does have a lot of humorous elements to it, but it’s not a comedy for sure.

It’s the essence of the film, the Kansas City shuffle, everyone expects it’s a comedy only to realize something else… which is much better because then it ruins the quality of the movie it if was marketed a different way.

@Palemagpie3 ай бұрын
I think the point was. It was such an unusualy high bet. That the bookies thought he had an inside track. So the mobsters bet even more money than him. When it all came up for naught....well, gangsters aren't exactly known for their forgiving nature. And somebody is to blame
@F3cast3 ай бұрын
@@Palemagpie It's simpler than that. The mobsters were the ones who fixed the race. Gave the tip to their guys to make money, to rip someone else off or whatever. But the tip got out to outsiders. The bet the father made landed on the table of the mobsters bookie. So they got the info that to many people knew about the fixed race. Because they were new in town they needed to make a point that no one is to interfer/use their fixed horses without permission. They overdosed the horse, so every outsider who bet lost their money. The father just bet to much and wasn't protected by anyone so they used him to make an example.

Man was desperate, and was betting on a fixed race, almost 100 percent that he would have won if the mobsters didn’t intervene early. He could have literally ran with the money, so probability of winning betting was actually higher , if the mobs didn’t intervene. Which makes sense

I’ve never heard of a mobster killing someone who lost a bet within minutes without giving him a single chance to pay even a portion of it back. I always thought it was bad for business and bad return on investment to kill the person who owed you money. After all, now you won’t ever get your money back and now you gotta dispose of one, or in this case, three dead bodies. Did they kill every single person who bid on that horse, like every idiot who picked that horse at random & bet a couple hundred bucks on it, or only the protagonist?
@tmclaug9028 күн бұрын
So, judging from what Bruce Willis said, the bad guys were trying to make an impression with the violence. The fixed race was supposed to be for mobsters only and they didn't want the regular guy taking any action because it would give other people thoughts of doing the same thing. That's why the bookie died too. They probably also did a little research on the guy and figured he didn't have anything close to $22k. Also, they didn't actually lose any money to the guy, they didn't pay him a dime. So they figure we make him the example.
