I think this showcases just how much Paulie can destroy their family lol. I think the best he ever was was walking with Rocky to fight Drago and saying if he could be anyone, it would be Rocky.

I love Paulie as a character in the Rocky movies. He adds to the fidelity. We all know that in real life not everyone is always supportive, well-behaved and rational all the time. In many families you have to content with _black_ _sheep_ who are annoying, fool around and sometimes make your life harder, but they are still family. Still, Pauli is still very lucky Rocky is so forgiving.

Yes, that is Sly's son Sage. He died of a heart attack in 2012 at the age of 36. Drugs were NOT involved.

I think a lot of people came to this movie expecting something very different from what it was, so expectations were not fulfilled and they came away unhappy. No big fight to get it all back and end up back on top. When you watch it free of those expectations you can see what the movie really is and it is really good.

It's a good movie, it's definitely the weakest if the franchise but that doesn't make it bad. I never really understood the hate it got, I've always liked it.

I like this movie a lot, and if I had to pick my least favorite, I'd have to go with IV. I thought they WAY overdid it with the training montages in IV, and I found Rocky's speech at the end kind of corny.

Yes, that was Stallone's real life son, Sage Stallone. But also, the baby born to Rocky and Adrian in Rocky 2 was also his real life son, Seargeoh Stallone.

It's easily my favourite in the series. The complaint I always hear is it didn't give us a fight in a ring for the fifth time in a row, even though people always complain about sequels being all the same, that's straight up illogical.

17:35 One of the major shortcomings for young kids today. Back then, we did that. A 30 second scuffle turned down the temperature on everything. We had contact sports to take our aggressions out on. Today, there's none of that. Kids get pushed around (more or less online) and the anger builds and builds with no outlet. I really think this lack of outlet fuses into the shootings and stuff we have today. Everybody's got a breaking point, but we were able to push that point off by releasing steam. Kids today, i don't think have those opportunities and it carries over into their adult years.

The reason this one gets hate is because it dialled down the over-the-top action from the 3rd and particularly the 4th and focused (as it SHOULD) on the characters. Rocky V is a solid film, if you know your films.

Hi Miss Elizabeth!🙂I think the general audience was disappointed how Rocky was going out, broke and with brain damage. There was also some bad luck associated with this film. Tommy Morrison (Tommy Gunn) died of complications from aids. Sage Stallone (Robert Balboa) died at the young age 36 due to natural causes. Yes, Sage was the actual son of Sylvester Stallone. This was supposed to be the last Rocky film, but Stallone and many weren't happy with that. So, "Rocky Balboa" (2006) became the last Rocky film. I don't think they would reboot the franchise. The closest they came was continuing the Rocky character in the Creed films, which are worth watching after seeing "Rocky balboa".

Rocky V is great. It was supposed to be the big holiday movie of 1990, had the misfortune to go head to head with this little movie called Home Alone, and got crushed by it at the box office. That drove the narrative of this film as a failure.

Hi Mom! I think I can encapsulate in two reasons why people like this movie the least: 1. With four ring matches in the previous four movies, we're left with a street fight in this one, and 2. Rocky is oblivious to his family, whereas he was very attentive in the past four. Enjoyed your reaction, as always. :) Please continue on to "Rocky Balboa."

I've seen others make those same observations and reactors who have said the same. The way I saw it, I didn't really expect Rocky to fight in the ring again because of his health issues. Drago really messed him up. And as for Rocky being oblivious to his family, I have to disagree again. Before he met Tommy, he was very much attentive to his wife and kid. Once Tommy got in the picture, Rocky saw him as a way to get back what he lost financially and give his family what he thought they deserved. Many times when Rocky Jr. tried getting his dad's attention, Rocky was clearly in the middle of something else, but he STILL took the time to at least address the kid, and let him know that he'd be able to catch up with him later. The kid should have picked better times to talk to his dad instead of while he was in the middle of training his fighter.

The rap on this was that it ended in a street fight not in the ring which was anticlimactic to some. The music is at that post 80's transition time around 90-91 that isn't great. Always liked it though and thought it was a natural progression of Rocky's life. Tommy Gunn was a real fighter named Tommy Morrison. He was world champ at one point. Sad story this guy. He contracted HIV and had to quit boxing. Got into drugs, died from complications in his 40's.

Many of us thought that Tommy Morrison (Tommy Gunn) would be the next big HW thing in boxing. Tyson was still king, but his fights often lasted a round or two and simply didn't sate people's appetite. Morrison had a decent punch but not nearly the extent of Tyson's, so his bouts lasted a bit longer. I saw him for the first time on USA Tuesday Night Fights. After that, I guess it was the match vs Razor Ruddock. I'm a bit biased on that outcome as I was a big Razor fan at the time. Interesting thing about this film is the precedent set. Let's put ourselves in Rocky-land early 1990s. Tommy Gunn, an up and coming contender gets into a street brawl against an aged fightter who's respected among the boxing world. There's no outcome that serves as a win for Tommy there. Imagine if social media was around - he'd be the most hated athlete in America instantly. The film itself was just okay for me. Of the first five, it's fifth on my list. I think the success of pushing an ideal in #4 made the producers hard-pressed to do the same in this one, but they had no real hard issue to connect with. So they basically went with the father vs son thing that's been done 100 times. Not a terrible movie, and I'd watch it any time it happens to be on and there's nothing better to view. But I won't go out of my way to see it like I might for the first three. Great reaction btw - as with all of those I've watched previously.

Fun Facts: Sly Stallone's original script for Rocky 5 was aimed at killing off Rocky Balboa at the end of Rocky 5. After the street fight with Tommy Gunn, he is rushed off and dies inside the ambulance while enroute to the hospital. However, the studio executive's stepped in and demanded Rocky be kept alive

I've enjoyed your new perspective on this film. I, like most people I've talked with, thought this was the worst of the 6 Rocky movies. I'm not saying that it was necessarily bad just not as good. Your correct though about the message of family being strong. You liking it more holds with the name of your channel, you truly had a "mom" perspective being concerned about his relationship with Robert suffering from his connection to Tommy. This one is about legacy. Due to his injuries Rocky can't build his legacy in the ring anymore. Rocky tries passing on his knowledge to Tommy. But in the end he realizes his son is his legacy. Getting old is tough...

That’s why Mickey made a point in his speech to say he wouldn’t leave Rocky until he could take care of himself outside the ring as well, and by the time Mickey died Rocky was doing pretty well for himself.

I liked this one, i think it just wasn't a "conventional" Rocky film where he trained and got into the ring etc, and that turned some people off, but being a big fan myself that didn't bother me and enjoyed the drama aswell as the street fight. The only aspect that wasnt consistant and I didn't understand was how his son went from about 7 years old to 12 🤔😄

Well in a interview the studio was rushing sly to make other Rocky movie. Sly was in the middle of filming a movie he dident get enough time to write the script.

All of them are great, if you ask me Rocky 4 is at the bottom because its just a short movie with a poorly written storyline. It only stands out for 2 things, which is apollos death and the final fight. Nothing literally happens besides that.

According to many critics it's because of the ending fight scene. The fact that they make it a street fight rather than an all out ring fight just so that the promoter wouldn't get his cut.

I can understand that, but at the same time I think that's why it means more from the story perspective. It's not just about putting on a show. In this one it's about protecting what's important. As Mick says, it's about fighting not just in the ring, but out of it, too. And that was a good comeuppance for Duke, too. I didn't mind that it was a street fight.

it was a street fight because getting hit in the head with fist is less damaging to the brain then getting hit with gloves,. and also a street fight is over quick and a boxing match could last longer which could of also caused more brain damage

I definitely wouldn't say there are NO flaws in the Rocky films. The first two are nearly flawless. The rest have varying levels of success and fails, Funny you think Rocky V might be your favorite, as most fans put this one at the absolute bottom of the list. But there's no way this is the worst in a world where the cheesy Rocky IV exists. Anyway, make sure to watch the next one, because it's many fans' favorite after the first two.

The kid, along with Rocky not fighting in the ring, were a little jarring for people plus him losing everything was sort of a goofy plot device that doesn't really add up. However, I think it's less that people don't like this one as they just like the first four movies better. If this movie never came out one of those other classics would back wondered the worst one. This was designed to be the end of the series so I hope you watched the credits because it was a great Elton John song accompanying the trip down memory lane and was a fitting tribute.

Tommy Morrison's acting was bad is the main reason why this one gets a bad rap. I still liked it. The Don King-like character was annoying. Morrison was a brief heavyweight champ with powerful left hook. Even George Foreman said that Morrison was the only one who had hit him the hardest. This movie never sat well with Stallone hence the Rocky Balboa movie.

What I don't get about this one is how well Stallones character integrated into society. All the PTSD from the wars seemed to be mostly gone until the finale of the movie. But it was a very bold move to ditch all the iconic imagery like the red bandana, Bow and the knife to show the more human side of Rambo! JK! It took me very long to actually watch Rocky V because the bad reputation of the movie. I really liked 1-4, so I didn't want to sour my good memories. But when I finally watched V (about 2 years ago) I was surprised that its actually a decent movie. I guess people were just upset that it wasn't "as great as" the other parts, but it wasn't that bad and definitely showed something new, which isn't that easy being the fifth.

@@movieswithmom There are actually three more! Rocky Balboa in 2006, 16 years after Rocky 5, and he's 60 years old. And then Creed 1 and 2 are spin offs with Michael B Jordan. Sylvester Stallone didn't write the first one, but he co wrote the second one, and wrote all his dialogue in the first one. Creed 3 doesn't have Rocky, but I really hope you do the next three. Love your reactions! Will you ever finish the Rambo series?

This movie doesnt deserve the hate, in my opinion its better than 4, which is probably the worst in the series. 5 has a better storyline, had character and story progression, instead of a shallow story of Russia bad, America good cliche.

This movie is…well not very good. The acting is very hot or miss, and that’s depending on what you’d expect from the direction of the film. The editing is…well it’s not very good mostly (that street fight… geez). The music too; so many good rocky musical moments but also pretty lame ones-another film that tries to be “edgy with a 90s feel” but looks corny and outdated. There is a reason why rocky v did “kill” the franchise for a while. Stallone himself didn’t like the film and you can tell he (at this point in his career) really didn’t know what to do. He at one point tried to have rocky die. But is it bad? No, there are many good moments-the intro, the ending with rocky and his son, Mickey. There is potential here! It’s really the only boxing movie that deals with post-fame lifestyle. And ultimately this film did force Stallone to rethink the rocky franchise. Without it we dont Get rocky 6.

(In answer to the title of your thumbnail) Speaking for myself only, the reasons I didn't like it were: 1) I hated the soundtrack, 2) I didn't like or connect with any of the new actors in this movie, 3) Most of the dialogue including Rocky's, didn't feel like the previous Rocky movies, or the movie that followed this (Rocky Balboa, which is very good). I'm aware that Rocky is supposed to be a little "different" because of his brain damage, but even taking that into account it still didn't feel right. I think the basic ideas for the script were pretty good.... Rocky having brain damage from fighting Drago, losing all of their money and having to move back to the old neighborhood, etc., and I think there were some good scenes, especially Adrian's, but overall it just doesn't feel anything like the other Rocky movies to me.

This film is great. Tommy is a real life boxer. Amazing strong aponent. Its shows so much of how the story should of ended. I think people wanted at least for Tommy vs Rocky in the boxing Ring. But inthink the street fight is cool, rugged and vicious. Creed movies really suck. I have no intrest in such lousy 2nd rate character. Rocky is all we came to see. I would rather watch Sage rocky son have a series. Rocky V has so much passion and realistic drama.
