I too played Little Acre and Donut County last month - I did think Little Acre was cute and pretty fun, but I felt like I had stepped into maybe the second or third game in a series, never really followed what was happening. I think I liked Donut County more than you, it was certainly a short-and-sweet one, but I found it charming. The little descriptions of all the items you drop in the hole at the end of the level cracked me up.

I've been hitting the Walmart clearance, as usual, again this past month. I grabbed (multiples) of Quantic Dream Collection (Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls, Detroit Become Human), Spyro Reignited Trilogy and The Sims 4 (base version), all for PS4, for $5 a copy from a Walmart store about 6-7 miles from me. The copies of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy are the reissued version that has all three remastered games on the disc. So that was a nice surprise. Walmart has quite a few games on clearance in their U.S. stores at this point, including the Skyrim Special Edition on PS4 for $5 at many stores too.

Hey Pam. In case you haven’t collected maps to Metroid yet, I suggest picking up a copy of The Official Nitendo Player’s Guide if you can find it on Ebay or something. I didn’t get much at all last month. Physically I got Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain (PS4) at the beginning of the month plus Civilization VI (Switch), and the Zone of the Enders Collection (PS3) at the end. Digitally I got Sunless Skies for PC plus Herzog Zwei, and both the Contra and Castlevania collections for Switch. On PS4 I finished my first Cyberpunk 2077 run a few days into the new year. The rest of my PS4 playtime went to Rage 2. By month’s end I was basically done with my things to do before setting the game aside until I get the DLC list. L had completed three of the four perk trees, Basic which is the only tree you have access to at the beginning, Engineering because that was always going to be high priority for me which is why I unlocked it first even though the contact and mission to unlock the Combat tree is much closer to the starting area, and Nanotrites which I unlocked second despite it being the most remote contact. I also am more then halfway through the Combat perk tree, which is the largest of the four trees. I’ve obtained, fully leveled, and fully modded all of the base game’s weapons, obtained and fully leveled up all of the base game’s nanotrite powers plus fully upgraded the ones I consider vital, and many of the others. I also obtained all of the non-hidden vehicles, and at least some of the hidden ones plus fully upgraded my first vehicle which is apparently the only one I can upgrade. I like the game but if it had been bought at full price I would have been disappointed I think. I ran into some bugs and while most were harmless I spent more then thirty minutes dealing with one between reloading my last two autosaves in hopes it wouldn’t trigger then having to restart the system to get it to work right After I got the Zone of the Enders collection I played both games. While the sequel has many improvements in combat I found myself preferring the open structure of the firs t game. (I played them in reverse order because I had beaten the first game many years ago but had never played the second) For PC I played Gears Tactics, the first Gears of War game I’ve ever owned, and only one I’ve played since briefly playing a friend’s copy of the first game when it was new (The same friend that got me my copy of this actually) I have a huge soft spot for Engineer characters, and characters who are hybrids of Commander and Engineer so I was very pleasantly surprised by the protagonist combining the two skill sets even if COG’s treatment of its engineers during the Locust War is abysmal. I had a lot of fun with this and did well I think other then a few times where I overestimated the range of a Scout’s weapon when I really needed the Scout to kill something or screwed up the movement so I wasn’t able to move a character to safety after planting a grenade on a pending emergence hole. On the Switch after finishing Saga/Final Fantasy Legend III I played the various Castlevania and Contra games in the collections that I don’t own elsewhere for a while then started Last Remnant. I read this started life as a Saga game, and I can definitely see it fitting well in the franchise. Which is great for me because I love the Saga franchise. The battle system has characters grouped into squads called Unions with the Union’s stats tied to those of its members, and usually multi-Union Battle Forces (Your Battle Force has both a character number cap and a number of Unions allowed cap.) Orders are given to Unions and the battles are turn based but during turns Unions move in real time to execute their orders allowing for things like rear and flank attacks. I like the system a lot except for one thankfully brief period where my Battle Force character limit got cut so low I had to keep them concentrated in one Union because splitting three members between two Unions never worked well for me despite HP being restored after every battle. Fortunately my allowed force size was soon increased to nine members and three Unions, and battles controlling two or three Unions are much more enjoyable IMO due to increased tactical options. Now if only the protagonist didn’t belong to the rash fool school of heroing. That very limited battle force part I mentioned occurs because the hero’s rashness screws up a chance to achieve his goal. Then he gets bad at the leader of a city who has been helping him because the leader wanted to gather information and form a plan but the protagonist decides doing so is a waste of time. I then started Herzog Zwei. I loved this when I was a kid but hadn’t played it in over 25 years so I played through the tutorial as a refresher which had enough comedy elements to be amusing. I got a little over halfway through the campaign such as it is before the month ended often using my old trick of using typically defensive missile turrets offensively by emplacing then around the enemy base once I had all the outposts on the map captured (To get the story ending you have to beat the AI on every map but can play the maps in whatever order you desire. The missile turrets knock out the enemy command unit once it respawns, thus preventing it from deploying additional forces and bombard the base to toothpaste while the command unit is out of action.)

In Greek mythology, Typhon is the father of monsters. When the gods overthrew the titans, the titans summoned Typhon to battle Zeus, which implies that Typhon was atleast as mighty as the titans themselves. Perhaps even stronger than the titans, save perhaps Chronos. Anyway Zeus imprisoned Typhon beneath the ocean, to this day his rage causes the storms of the world - thus typhoons are derivative of his name.

I just beat Bowser in Super Mario Bros. 3 with the Hammer Bros. suit yesterday! I never knew you could even do that. The hammers wreck him but the noise they make when they hit him is so weird. It doesn't sound like you're doing any damage but you are. This was the NES version. I've beaten the game multiple times but never like that. I'm pretty proud of myself:)

I love Hollow Knight, though I'm sad to say, I only managed to get to 111% completion out of the possible 112%. No matter how hard I try, I just can't seem to beat the Pure Vessel fight in the Pantheon of the Knight.

I doubt I'll get the full 112%

If you can find the old Nintendo power with the metroid map you can old school it. Nothing like having the huge map spread out Indiana Jones style

I love how good old pc games' covers look printed on a shirt! Also thats a weird looking nes game! Is a new release?

I started metroid zero mission today on wii u. Great remake of the original game. First time I turned on my wii u in over two years apparently.... Switch needs a virtual console!

Yeah I was also a bit disappointed with Donut County. It was more fun for the story but then it just didn't engage for long enough.

Hah, I'm laughing a bit at thinking the lack of map is going to be your issue with Metroid. Just wait till you get a number of the energy tanks and have to farm for 30m every time you die.

@@Cannotbetamed1 I wanted to like it but the mission timers made it artificially difficult. I could understand the need for timers in a racing game but not in a strategy game. Having only 3 turns to get to the other side of the map while missing aliens at 95% accuracy made me throw my hands up in frustration.

The original Metroid is archaic compared to later entries in the series and is a little tough to go back to now but it's a NES classic for sure. There is a hack that adds in a mini map and even a save feature. It's not a huge improvement but it definitely helps. Ultimate Stuntman is pretty neat with it's multi genre gameplay. It has like 6 different types of levels before they start to repeat. Camerica games were definitely a step above most of the unlicensed games on the NES. No new pick-ups for me. Sealed stuff is getting too expensive and I still have a crap ton to open. LOL

It seems people are all about grading sealed games right now? Seems weird to me. Open the games!
