You're a beautiful couple and I truly admire your life choices and lifestyle. Your cottage seems idyllic but I've now watched two videos and know that it can be freezing and too attractive to mice, but STILL your enthusiasm and energy is wonderful to watch.😄 I've subscribed and will be following your journey with real interest. At 73 yrs old I'm never going to be living like this but to see you two living, loving and sharing is a real treat for me. It is something I would have loved to have done, with the right person. Thank you for sharing your story.❤

Your journey and your love for each, the countryside and Cumbria is truly beautiful. I love watching you both as you talk so honesty about how you deal with the reality of living in the countryside in a beautiful old cottage. I have ties with Cumbria and a wonderful cottage too so I really empathise with you both! What I love most of all is your positive outlook in spite of the weather, power cuts, Internet issues and all the challenges of living remotely car less. You are a joy to watch amongst this magnificent scenery. Thank you both for cheering me up whilst I recover from CV-19. Cant wai for more! Hope you both settle there! Wonderful ❤❤ Thank

A few tips for someone whose been there done that... we would go to the library to download when we would go once a week. The fire...I cooked on a wood cookstove for 15 years. Learn to 'bank' that fire... it's a blessing and saves having such a cold house. We also had 3 years of no hot water and had to boil, keep water on stove always available for whatever... showers happened using a 2 gallon pressure sprayer, replaced the hose with a camp shower sprayer. It meant taking sailor showers.

We live fairly remote, a forested area in Finland. It's approximately a 30 minute drive to the nearest shop and a 2 kilometre drive along the forest track to the main road. Summer is our shortest season, which isn't so bad when you consider almost all the tiny airborne insects want to bite, burn or sting you. Winter, however, is our longest season and the deep snow affords a feeling of absolute isolation from the rest of the tumultuous world. It's a unique experience I wouldn't trade for all the tea in China. The scenery is spectacular. It's a gift for the dogs too. So much freedom for them to run around and just be dogs. I do not miss the hustle and bustle of the conctete jungle at all. Right then. As you've inspired me to do some work, I'm off to stack some chopped wood before the heavy snows start to fall. Peace ✌
@joshandsarahride

That sounds incredible! I have always wanted to experience the long winters to see what it's like. This is a baby version 😅 summer is great but I (sarah) get devoured by bugs which is a real bummer when I want to garden. Good luck with the wood chop.

Wow that sounds wonderful. How much daylight do you get in winter?
@Dylanesque
@Dylanesque 10 ай бұрын
@@jillchew-tetlaw3388 The winter darkness is known as 'Kaamos' or polar night, a duration of approximately 3 months. You don't really see the sun during this period and any available ligh that does exist, exists around 10:00 am to 2:00pm and is the equivalent of twilight. The loss of daylight hours is compensated for during the short summer months when the sun is still shining at midnight. Either side of the two extremes, you tend to lose track of time.

It is really encouraging to see you guys living out your dreams. Having strived for bigger better, more you get to a point in your life when time is more important than money. In reality these things are all superfluous as what really counts is the memories you make along the way. At 60, I’d wish I’d realised this sooner!

Myself (67) and my dsughter (49) had a house built in the forest of Newfoundland last year. This will be our second winter and we just had the first snow. We have hydro but its greatly expensive so we heat with a wood stove and only use it for back up. Getting the grounds ready for veggies in the spring. A green house to build and an orchard to start. It's very hard work but its so very very rewarding. Cheers to all and may The Great Spirit guide our journeys in joy and peace. 💞🙏

I trust that you have accepted that country life and country people will not have the same values, outlook and ideologies that those you left in the town did. The Lake District is a huge tourist area, but it is still an agricultural and rural environment, so moving there must include understanding and acceptance of such. I wish you all the best in your new life. Um, by the way, we always used to wear slippers or shoes (some of us still do!), it’s a modern centrally heated idiosyncrasy that decided no footwear was the thing! A thick jumper, warm socks and a vest is the best central heating. I’m enjoying your journey 👍.

My partner lives in the country in the middle of fields, and everything has to be stored in glass jars… And a cat that is a good hunter, will also make all the difference. I adore the two of you, and keep us all posted with all of your adventures . And is it possible for you to go into town once a week to upload videos? ?

Thank you 😊 ahh, that's something we were possibly going to include. A village along has a weekly 'warm room' which has heating and internet. It's not come to actually going yet but might be nice to meet people. Fingers crossed we will be getting an antenna installed, with just need EE to respond to us! Thanks for watching!

Hi both! I moved to the mountains of central Italy this year and love watching content from other people that have made a leap! There’s nothing like living in nature, so far removed from the BS in life! Good luck with everything 😊

Enjoyable video, however I know the area and live nearby - the nearest village is only two miles away and they're not as remote as you'd imagine, being on the fringes of the national park. I thought to begin with, they were deep inside the Lake District as some areas really are almost inaccessible. The area where they are is very rural however and can get severe snow on the rare occasions we have it here. More peaceful than the more central area of the Lakes as it's away from the tourist hotspots, thankfully. But they're making life much more difficult than it needs to be, by not driving! Are they anti-car I wonder?

Yes we're tucked away just under the northern Fells, so a lot more peaceful than the central and southern lakes. Which we do enjoy most of the time but do miss the bustle and vibrancy of towns sometimes. We don't drive, which does make life harder, yes, but we do have two pairs of strong thighs. It's harder to motivate ourselves in the winter compared to summer but means we get to explore more and have some great stories too!

Your video popped up on you tube. Decided to watch, so pleased that I did! Like you, do not also drive. Will be intrigued to learn how you manage life's challenges without driving. I have access to good public transport, but have also raised my 2 daughters and 50+ foster children on my own and no car!!

Hats off to you raising kids on the bike. We cycle a lot, we love it and have never lived somewhere so rural so it's been a but simpler. It's a challenge at times but keeps us fit and our thighs strong

I am soooo jealous. We should have done this forty years ago, too late now. Get some hens - but watch out for the foxes and badgers. Make friends with the farmers. Definitely wave when a tractor goes past!😊

Your video just came up today for me and I think you moved to Cumbria when I also did in the Autumn of 2022. Not that I am remote and I do drive. It still brought different challenges and Mice too. However from a City (Leicester ) to a nature based town and a great community. So good for you and I shall enjoy looking to your first videos and more.

Hi Josh and Sarah My wife and I just caught your video and we were totally enthralled! We live in the US west of Boston but I was born 50+ years ago in Penrith and grew up in Carlisle. I try to visit the Lakes as much as possible on my journeys back to the UK for camping/hiking. I recognized a few scenes from your videos including Caldbeck tv mast! I'm guessing you must be located near Caldbeck or Threlkeld based on your 7 miles reference to the nearest town and train station that being Penrith! The northern fells as I'm sure you'll both agree are not as well known or trodden as they are further into the interior of the Lakes which is all the more reason to locate where you are! Again, we love observing your choice of lifestyle and it looks like you both know how to cook based on what we saw in the kitchen and on the barby so no worries in that department!

Really glad you like the video. It really is beautiful here and yes as you said ee prefer the peacefulness of the Northern Lakes compared to the mid and southern lakes. Love that you recognise some of the hills, you clearly know them well. All the best
