Hi, thank you for Stevo and Faye's sharing, this video really helps ! I moved to UK in May 2022, worked as HR and Admin. in HK for years, so no local experience but I found a Customer Service job in last December, my small tips are be confident and prepared during interview (輸人不輸陣), use as much as relevant HK's working experience to answer interviewer's questions. Besides, I have not trusted the media to cut short my CV from 4 pages to one page, it doesn't help. Lastly, UK interviewers do not need to see my certificates and reference letters, they only focused on my twice interview's performance ! So Hongkongers add oil !!!
Hope all HKers able to find a suitable job soon. For those who want to work as pervious field as Hong Kong, I think there is a key to find a sizeable company. Companies that are too small in general don’t have a diversified people policy. For cover letter, if the application website does not provide a feature to upload cover letter, you shall merge your cover letter with your CV to upload in one go. I quite agree with the importance of the cover letter. It’s an important way to express why you think you fit into the role and explain why your HK experience fits into the requirements of the role. In additional, the CV itself don’t be too lengthy. Limit to two pages will be suitable. It’s really a skill to put all your career history in two pages while presenting all the information in a professional manner. Some information maybe omit-able in the CV. Say for example, one passed a professional exam, the score of the professional exam may not be that important and shall be omitted in the CV. Good luck to all! Add oil HKers.
7 years working as a recruiter in London for luxury retail, Fintech and web3. Not sure about some of the tips shared in the video. Cover letter is rarely needed… I only have less than 5 sec to screen through a cv.. make sure you have a killer cv is very very important. LinkedIn profile and networking are very important in the U.K. job market though!

Recruitment processes are different everywhere most big search engines will have the option to add one……such as jobserve. Internal recruiters also operate differently and have their own process and requirements.

I got a job offer few weeks ago and will start tml, job search in a month, thats very lucky. Accountant job, thats my profession. I agreed with what you said in the video that preparation, covering letter, and reserach on the company website or its industry is essential work we need to work on before going to interview. Also the Linkedln, but one more tips is preparation on the scenario questions like how you value the vendor relationship, something seems not related to your job, but they are looking for your personality more.
Thank you Faye and Stevo giving so much information and always encourage hongkongers. It is good to refresh even if you have a job now, really helpful for the future. Many Thanks. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you guys👍 I got a baker job in supermarket yet even I have almost 60years old 😜 I supposed I need retirement after moved in UK! I’m enjoying my job although it isn’t earn money , I can have a chance to chat with local people at least 😅

Thanks for the advice,
早幾個月前小弟有做過interviewer, 好同意Stevo 咁講,去到section end, 'Do you have any questions?' No,I don't have any questions. I'm fine.

Thank you and I learnt a lot from your sharing! I have been looking for jobs over one month. If I am looking for a job which is irrelevant to my some of previous work experience, do you think I should list out all my work experiences in my CV?
@@MovingSocks2.0What is the difference between what you described in your CV and your LinkedIn profile? There should be no difference. I never said having LinkedIn is useless, but 500+ connection? Lol do you have any real working experience in the UK?

Carefully read the Job Description is very important. Well prepare and research the company profile and corresponding technique is very important. Many Hongkonger ignore LinkedIn profile, that is very wrong. Culture is different.

i moved to New Zealand and it is the same here, so frustrating and their questions are so strange...
yes, I have a degree, and more than that, I gained my master's degree from the UK, and I was studying for a PhD in the UK. However, some employers are still asking me for my GCSE English and Maths qualifications and are stopping the processing of my application simply because of these very low-level educational qualifications, if you know what I mean. That's how strict some employers in the UK can be. Of course, not all of them, but I have encountered this situation more than once, and I'm somewhat shocked by it. @@MeiinUK
