His performance is truly unique. The actor is not physically imposing, yet he plays the character so convincingly, with such authority. Brilliant!

Castillo was THE man. Absolutely commanded respect, lived by a code and was loyal to a fault. Any unit he was in charge of would have walked on hot coals barefoot for him. After the episode "Bushido" you knew what this man was about.

MV was such a landmark show in so many ways. Had it been a HBO owned show ....they could have gotten away ith so much more (like The Sopranos)...i think needed to best portray Miami crime `life`. though, if they did that the show wouldn`t have reached as wide an audience....still be a mega hit...as The Sopranos was...also `landmark`....they both did a lot of firsts....

Hmm, I heard he was arrogant on set from day 1. Don Johnson walked off set when Olmos made a big deal about opening and closing his office door. And that scene when he told Tubbs not to get in his face was real, Johnson literally pulled Philip away before it kicked off. Look at Don's face as it went down, he was shocked.

Zombies usually don't talk. What I liked about him is he was so grim, intimidating, a man of few words but he made what he said count. I found him very convincing as a leader and a badass. Even though I liked Lt Rodriguez before him, the show felt complete when he came on board as Lt Castillo.
