Fun fact, the singer Eric Martin wrote this song when he was only 15 about an older girl who was a neighbor that he had a crush on. Until this song broke he said he felt like the forgotten member of the band because the other three were so gifted and so famous. It was the guitar player Paul Gilbert who heard it on an old cassette of Eric’s and insisted they do it - Eric Martin didn’t really want to, but it changed his life and he said girls stopped passing by him on the tour bus. They are still together minus the late Pat Torpey, who was with the Knack (My Sharona) before Mr. Big. So go see them live!

I am crazy about this song. None of my friends loved it. Thank you for vindicating me. It's a hopeful, happy-feeling thang. I was pregnant with my first child, I believe. My marriage was full of negativity, drugs, violence, alcohol. This song took me out of that. I could close my eyes, rub my belly, talk to my unborn son, feel happy and comforted.

Eric Martin is a phenomenal vocalist, and I've loved his voice since I was probably 12 years old. That was over 30 years ago. Still love him. Loved seeing your reaction to him! He actually wrote this song for a girl he had a crush on, but she friend zoned him. He was trying to impress her. He just wasted it on the wrong girl, but the rest of us get to listen to his beautiful voice, and see a playful, silly side of Eric and the rest of the band. Eric Martin's smile is so freaking adorable!

This song was huge when I was in junior high.
@bostonvair
@bostonvair 3 жыл бұрын
This song was huge in 1991, slow dance song at parties and clubs. The band members were all virtuosos... Billy Sheehan on bass, Paul Gilbert on guitar, the late Pat Torpey on drums and vocalist Eric Martin, who flexes his vocal muscles in this song, which he actually wrote as a teenager. This band could have been bigger, but their timing was off. They emerged right when rock and roll was turning toward grunge, and alternative rock and suddenly bands like Mr. Big weren't so hip anymore. They were actually a hard rock/metal band, but this ballad was their massive hit that kind of cut across genres.

This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I was in jr. high when it came out; at that age when girls start thinking about falling in love. I had the biggest crush on the lead singer! I was so young, so innocent and SO naive... anything seemed possible. In my imagination, love would feel like perfect four part harmony. This song always takes me back to that feeling. Great memories! ...and I was raised on good harmony (The Eagles, CSNY, Fleetwood Mac, my mom and dad singing Simon & Garfunkel songs while my dad played guitar) so this song... ggaaaahhhhh!!!! So tight!

Mr. Big is one of my all-time favorite bands. I discovered them when they first broke in 1988/89, and was blown away by the songs and musicianship. The album To Be With You is from is their second album, and is definitely one of their best if not THE best album by the band. Sadly, the drummer, Pat Torpey, passed away not too long ago after a stuggle with Parkinson's Disease. He wrote and co-wrote so many of their greatest songs. My buddy discovered an import CD that had a song called "Stay Together" on it, and that's probably my all-time favorite Mr. Big song. Quite a bit more up-tempo than To Be With You, but great lyrics, and a kick-ass song all around: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWGZqZlrqb6UrKM Also, check out some of their concert from Budokan in 2009. They'd just re-united after a long time apart, and took Japan by storm with a top-of-their game live show that looks and sounds awesome. Yeah, I like this band. :)

Not knowing it was him when I was ringing him up I asked him if anyone ever told him he looked like the singer from mr big and he said yeah because he was. I completely fangirled and asked for his autograph pulled out some receipt paper for him to autograph and he reaches in his pocket and hands me a guitar pick. 1991... music at its best. These guys didn’t have a lot of hits but they were really good. This song was everywhere

I worked for Electronic Data Systems way back in the day. We worked 12 hour shifts and weren't allowed to play radios. There was a radio station on the phone. You call it and it played music nonstop. We put it on speaker and listened to it for 12 hours every night. On this station was the first time I had ever heard this song. Fell in love with it! I bought the CD and imho, it wasn't even the best song. Great CD!!

Great song. These guys were into pop and rock and I think metal. This one was a ballad. Every once in a while, they had to chill and rest their hands from the electric guitar, so they could go acoustic. 90's era.

LOL as kids today discover the music we grew up to. All of these songs came from an era where pop/rock stars actually knew how to compose, sing, and play real musical instruments.

Number one in 15 countries 1992. It was bit unusual as they normally played blues based hard rock with heavy influence from British bluesrock scene of the 1960's. You can hear the influence of Brtish singer Paul Rodgers in Eric Martin's style. Paul Gilbert and Billy Sheehan being virtuosos on their respective instruments a layer of shred was also present in their style. Upon founding the band was a sort of super group with bassist Billy Sheehan from David Lee Roth Band, guitarist Paul Gilbert from Racer X, singer Eric Martin had a solo career, the late drummer Pat Torpey a session and tour musician for e.g Belinda Carlisle. They split up 2002 but re united 2009. They are heading to call it a day after one more album and tour 2019. The band is known for its rich vocal harmonies since every member sings in live performances as well.
