Watch my mistakes and the install of the Sony XAV-AX1000 Car Stereo in an imported 2002 Toyota MR-S (also known as the MR2 Spyder). This is my first video and I was super nervous filming so please forgive all my umms and derpy moments.

This is a really great tutorial for changing the MR2 radio. I like that the video also included the trial and error, so the next person attempting this will know what to look out for.

A british man, just added a radio in to his MR2 Spyder and it fit better, but covered the heat and air vents due to the screen, but maybe the screen moves lower to overcome that. I am looking for a good GPS Radio/DVD one for my MR2 Spyder.

Oooh that's an interesting take. I would prefer to leave my heat and air vents but having the head unit higher does sound more ideal.

Honestly, that would be an interesting option. I also find that the head unit it a bit too low for comfort. It's difficult to look at it while driving.

I have one more question regarding this informative video. I have just bought a double din stereo for my (same as your) car. At the very end you added the outer bezel. I bought my car that already had a (very bad) aftermarket stereo. I do not have the outer bezel you have. Mine looks like yours did just after fitting, before fitting the outer bezel. Do you know where I can get one/part number? Was the stereo at the beginning on this the original?
@thatmr2girlschannel931
@thatmr2girlschannel931 3 жыл бұрын
The stereo at the beginning I assume is a Japanese aftermarket stereo from the previous owner. I don’t know the oem bracket part number, but it seems like some people used the Metra bracket 99-8300. The one I used, with just the two side bezel brackets that I had to break, is called a Metra 95-8202 Dash Kit.
@thatmr2girlschannel931
@thatmr2girlschannel931 3 жыл бұрын
Just got this from someone else, but you can use this link to find the oem part number for your car! (Sorry I wasn’t sure what year yours is) www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem-toyota-mr2_spyder-headlight.html

Is the screen visibility good while driving, seeing as its positioned quite low?
@thatmr2girlschannel931
@thatmr2girlschannel931 3 жыл бұрын
That’s actually a really good question! I did find that to be an issue, cause when it’s very sunny it was hard to see any of the screen. However switching the display brightness setting to auto helped. However, it is still sometimes an issue for me depending on the weather. When the top is on, I don’t really have an issue. Where you sit also affects visibility. I’m quite close up to my wheel but not high up. I find visibility better if I push my seat back (but then I can’t reach the pedals 😅) so maybe if you sit further back it’ll help too.

Quite an informative video. One thing I will say, which I'm in no way trying to be offensive. You make the MR2 look quite roomy, which suggests that you're around 5' tall. I'm 6'3 and have very little legroom in mine.
@thatmr2girlschannel931
@thatmr2girlschannel931 3 жыл бұрын
I’m so glad it was helpful! ☺️ Ahaha yes, I’m actually exactly 5ft tall and probably have way more legroom - one of the few perks of being small 😅 It’s actually surprisingly hard to find a car where I can actually fully drive and reach the clutch

@@thatmr2girlschannel931 oh right, I hadn't thought of that! The Japanese aren't generally tall people, although I'm sure there must be a few tall ones. Hence they tend to design their cars for smaller occupants. So for you with a couple of clicks forward on the seat, you're probably a good fit... Happy driving!

I’m sorry you feel that way. I filmed my candid experience of installing this head unit. I could have cut it out and not filmed my mistakes, however I felt that it may help someone else.
