Keybinding on this flight simulator is an absolute nightmare. I wish they would implement an interactive key-binding scenario where you could sit in the cockpit and simply bind all of your controls. At the very least, there should be a clickable option that directs you to this keybind. Alternatively, if you hover your mouse over an item, the corresponding name should appear, allowing you to locate it in the correct key in the binding menus. This flight simulator often involves a guessing game as you navigate between the menus, trying to determine what will enable your control to work with your particular Hardware.

In my Icarus C42 lessons one of the first things to do is go in the cockpit and check that the magnetos are off. So we don't cut by a spinning prop when burping the engine before checking the oil!

As a mere mortal..I have never understood why control functions on a Joystick,Honeycomb, Hotas etc etc were not made standard threads that developers/manufacturers /MFS 2024 program writers could pick up...Instead of all being different especially between 2020 and 24.. MFS should have Honeycomb Hotas etc pre mapped its amateur not do do that after 4 years. In my opinion...Excellent video..I have not bought 24 yet as I just want to fly and not mess around for hours setting my controls up.. They should just be an import from 2020 and a software dev should have done that first. very poor does not make me rush out to buy it.

Has to be one of the best videos that you have ever produced. Especially the walkaround and why it's done in real life, and what you are looking for. I actually laughed at one of your comments because of the following. My favorite plane in MSFS 2020 is the Maddog MD. I know a lot of people don't like the textures, but to me, it's one of the BEST airplanes in MSFS 2020. When people ask me a reason why i like it, my answer is always the same. Outside of the amazing fidelity/realism, etc. to the plane, it's the one plane that I fly that WILL, if your not paying attention, "try to kill you". When you said that line in your walkaround, I could not stop chuckling. You are really goo,d, and please continue your videos. Thanks again.

I remember when sims came with a thick user manual, a paper back book. I still have all the old ones I accumulated. I hope somebody (Asobo, are you listening?) writes one up and maybe sells it as a downloadable PDF. Maybe Cortana can figure it out, oh, wait, they laid her off.

I was around (TTD) when a guy walked into a running prop in a 182. Took off his arm. They were able to pack it in ice and took him to the hospital and were able to re-attach it.

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences. I have installed and then uninstalled MSFS2024 for the same reasons you encountered. It just made my head hurt trying to get my controllers programmed, then figure out why my Thrustmaster Airbus Yoke buttons would not work, then encounter various CTD's, then scratch my nearly bald head wondering how to use the various controller profiles either included or that I made. I was also very irritated that aircraft I had previously purchased in the 2020 Marketplace, then deleted there, still showed up in my 2024 Library. Really? I did not need to see the Captain Sim purchase I made early in the 2020 days in 2024. Finally, I decided "Who needs this crap!" and removed 2024 and made an enjoyable flight in 2020 this morning. Anyhow, thanks for helping preserve my sanity.

Hey Taylor, I genuinely appreciate the feedback and support. I do try to keep the feedback constructive and positive. Asobo clearly has a passion for this sim and it shows, it's just one of those things - you can try as hard as you can with something, but someone with experience (in this case in aviation) can point something out that you would not necessarily think about. I would have loved to have been involved in the development, but alas I was not.

Thanks 100% agree. RW pilot here and IGI. The same "suicide prevention" could be said of checklists as well. Imo, many of users are not sure if 2024 is a game or a flight sim aviation training tool. This is msobo's fault. They need a msfs 2025 PRO version spinoff. Thanks for quality assessment.

I have to say though, I seem to be one of the few who has gotten in and had a pretty error-free experience, and the actual flight experience is incredible. Really nice to fly in the sim. Turbulence and ground handling is SO much better, you can actually put crosswind inputs in on the ground, etc. Much better starting point than MSFS 2020 was. And I've been thinking about doing the IGI, got a 97 on my instrument written (albeit 5 years ago now...).

IGI recquires no endorsement, no flight time. Just take fundamentals of instruction foi and written. I recommend it for young pilots 16 y/o or greater. Gives you creds without air time. Also great for retired or medical grounded to stay engaged in rw flying thru sim. Vatsim or pilotedge is recommended as well. Toal cost for igi was about $300 for 2 tests. If you just did instrument written you will breeze thru. Need gleim FOI manual $25. Good luck

Great video, I had just solved the 2020/2024 keyboard issue myself when visiting a discord channel. It dawned on me I had changed my keyboard to 2020, but never knew the mapping for "Take Control of Character" ever existed. I too am keeping my settings for 2020 keyboard. A nice way to see all the current mappings for the 2020 keyboard is to select the filter for Assigned. Once they are all showing, select the Windows-G to bring up GameBar. Then select record the screen, and then proceed to start scrolling the listing until you get to the bottom, then stop the recording. Now you have a video you reference with all the default settings for future bindings. I did that with all my MSFS2020 settings to compare with 2024. It's nice to just pause the video where you need it.

The verbiage used in 2020 was also frustrating. I had to search what Cubemap reflections do, because I had no idea what the word meant; it's just jargon. Their route instructions for the bushtrips were also a word soup. I think it's a Asobo-french thing.

Thanks. I'm waiting for the sim to be debugged a bit before buying it, but guess what ? I had the same kind of linguistic problem in french on MSFS2020 ! I was so glad to find and use spad.next because it helped binding controls which was already a pain in the ass in the sim. But on top of that, in french, which is the native language for the developpers, they kind of translated the aeronautical vocabulary into something they thought would be understandable for newbies... that's what I thought at the time. And it boggled me, because I know Asobo developpers asked Microsoft to make them pass their PPL before starting any development. On MSFS2020, I thought they translated english words with google translate, straight into french, but it turns out maybe it's their own philosophy :) Thank you already for the tips you're gonna find and share with us throughout this journey !

Msobo is making their scattterbrain attempt at creating "profiles". They are absolutely needed. I use XP as well and their profile system is pretty good. B+ or A- Everything linked to all the controllers, including all settings, keyboard bindings, should be loaded when a change of aircraft is loaded.

That symbol with two quadrilaterals next to Unbind is the Xbox Options button. Maybe you had an Xbox controller connected.

in order to delete keybinding you can press assign new key and several times hit del - so it deletes whatever is inside the box

That only works for the 2024 keyboard profile. For the 2020 profile the key is on the game controller.

As I recall, you are not allowed to change the standard profiles in MS2020, you first have to set up a new profile.

It tells you that on lesson 1 in career mode. It should start you on that as a tutorial. I wouldn’t be that paranoid over the prop arc, you have to go in it for many reasons. The key is to ensure powers off and magnetos are off before you do so. Many twins will have the oil dipstick on the inboard side of one of them.

Agree! Its no problem being on either side of the engines of a twin. I have been working for 45 years as tech & Pilot on many Aircraft. I would say, On a Piston powered AC, Mags & Fuel off. If someone else is in the Aircraft, notify you are doing a Preflight. And always treat the prop like it could have a Hot mag! (happened to me a couple of times..)

If you try to change the default keyboard, of course it's going to ask you to save it to a new profile. It cannot save it to the default, else that wouldn't be a valid default anymore. That makes total sense to me. Also about the pilot starting outside. I'm 100% sure they will have an option to change where you start, whether inside or out. If it's not there already, it will be there eventually. As for as your complaint about not knowing what the keybind is to get into the cockpit, didn't you go through the same problem with every other key when first starting MSFS 2020? Just because it's new and net yet a quick Google search away, doesn't mean you have to vent your frustration at everyone else in the chat. That's your problem, not Microsoft's. Also, the phrasing "take control of character" makes total sense to me there as well, as you ARE taking control of your character, are you not? The other bind you thought it was makes sense too because you are just switching to an outside cam. Anyway, this is why I've not bothered downloading or trying MSFS 2024 yet. I'd rather wait a month or two from now when they have all the basic bugs all worked. And besides, by then all new keybinds WILL be a quick Google search away. ;)

Yes the Shift C I learned when I tested the tech alpha. There were a lot of people streaming and this question was asked a lot. I would have preferred that everything worked the same as in the 2020 Sim. I use my Xbox Controller until I get everything mapped for my joystick. I will do that this weekend.

I wouldn’t completely say you would always start with the walk around. Different people do different things. When I approach the plane assuming I’ve checked the MR already, I would remove the covers/tiedowns and check fuel/oil first. Order the fuel truck and/or add oil if necessary before getting in the plane. When I get in, I agree, undo control locks, masters on, lights/pitot heat on, drop the flaps. Check lights and pitot, then switches/masters off before commencing the proper walk around. Saying that, I agree it should not have spawned you in between the prop and fuselage 😂

To unbind easily have your curser over the key of your desire then click the back key on your keyboard and it will be gone Also the search by input is actually cool because you can click that then hit a key and it will show you everything that key is binded to. I think once we learn it we will like it better than 2020. By the way I love you videos keep up the great work.

Just make sure that when you make changes to any of your bindings and it renames that new folder to whatever you name it to …make sure you either apply it to all aircraft .. or individually … But make sure above that category. Make sure that your joystick or whatever it is that you’re flying with is highlighted or checked off and you should be fine. …

I’d prefer a setting option for the walk around option. I personally prefer being outside the aircraft as, well that’s how flights start… right? Then you would have to come out anyways to remove preflight stuff.

As the author mentioned, pic or fo must start in cockpit to remove control locks, flaps down, whatever is unique to each aircraft, according to POH. If this is your logic, then are we supposed to start in terminal if flying the "tubes"? Anyways just saying no offense. Imo everything starts in cockpit.

Just because they start you outside the aircraft doesn’t mean you have to immediately complete your walkaround though, right? For example, the EFB checklists tend to have initial preflight steps that need to be addressed in the cockpit before exiting and going back outside.

Ok well I'm not sure i follow your logic on the control of character thing. I mean you have this new thing called the walkabout and it does alot more than just move you person, I mean there is shift to 3rd person mode, sounds associated, all the graphics settings associated etc. All those things have to be activated by a key combo to inform the computer that this is the mode you are in therefore activate all these other associated codes to run. The other thing is that what we combo would you think best to associate with this and it just seems that you are picking on what keyboard assignment they chose in which you can reassign to anything you want. See man it's just that we are seeing such massive progress since the one I started with in 1985. Us older guys just really seem to appreciate things a bit more because we've been around a while. To me you don't really seem like you knew a time in your life where there were no home computers or microwaves, or even cable TV. So go easy when publicly announcing to the world your complaint and argument on it that doesn't really have much of a basis. You developed a ver thin foundation for your argument and as a linguist, certainly Trans-versal should break down very easy for you. Otherwise anyone can take all the wonderful little boxes of instant knowledge and find the answers. I follow ya on the other thing you do in helping out and such but I really think you just overthought this and made a very thin argument where there shouldn't be one.

Checking on... Thanks for the PSA. As always, it is exceedingly helpful and badly needed. A few thoughts: 1) I was right to wait to migrate to 2024. The launch went about as I expected it to...badly. They not only misjudged the server load in the initial download, it seems that they have misjudged the resources needed to operate a cloud sim with 15 million users. It is going to take them time to sort that because they need to figure out how to grow and not overload the system. 2) If you are Fenix or a Dev who does not use the marketplace, you are just now getting the SDK. I suspect that this is going to be not a straight port over so those add-ons are going to take vastly more time before they are usable in 2024. 3) Now, comes the piece that you bring into daylight with your video. WTF is this business with such a radically different (and difficult to understand) approach to manipulating controls? It's bad enough in 2024 that I need to create a profile for every single aircraft for every single device I have, but now to have to figure out what each key does before I build a separate profile for each airplane means that it will take exponentially more time to set up my controllers. 4) Finally and this is the thing that makes me apoplectic, IF Asobo was going to make such radical changes, why did they not create TUTORIALS to address these changes? It is going to take content creators like you an absurd amount of time to figure this stuff out, then create content to address each little thing that is different. It will take months (if not a year or more) to figure this stuff out. They didn't see this coming? As much as MSFS2024 will be a much better sim to fly, right now it is far too buggy and far too complex to use. I also need to see how much computer resources I have to modify and/or reconfigure to make it work in the first place (certain things I already know and am updating). Until there is clarity on these points, I am going to focus on operating better in the MSFS2020 environment. A hot mess isn't what I would call it. A cluster... is more accurate.

I had a nightmare trying to figure out how to setup my HOTAS. I have a Logitech X56 HOTAS and the game out of the box supports it but the button and functions of the HOTAS weren't correctly assigned. Some of the terminology used by Asobo/Microsoft for the configurations of setting as bizarre...

I pre-purchased 2024 Premium Deluxe, but expected the release to be a complete mess. Im staying in 2020 for several months, or even a year, until I see channel creators releasing videos that demonstrate that the sim has progressed. I understand that MS is really pushing the limits in the technology of the sim, but it definitely isnt ready.

@@IslandSimPilot You're welcome. Also, you apparently have a controller sending inputs to the sim @5:40, evidenced by the Xbox controller button prompts in the UI. Like most modern PC games that support controllers, the prompts dynamically change depending on the most recently sensed input. Without any controller input, moving the mouse or hitting a keyboard key will display prompts for keyboard. I just booted up my MS2024 to check, and the keys are [Esc] Go Back, [Delete] Unbind, & [F] Filters: None. As soon as I move a stick my Xbox controller, the button prompts change to [B], [View] (the two rectangles) and [X].

Transversal is a stupid choice to call a flight sim profile, because the most common definitions are only known to high school students, who will immediately forget it, or mathematic professors. It is a line that passes through two or more other lines at distinct points. For instance, in a plane with two parallel lines, a transversal intersects both lines, creating multiple angles. Outside of mathematics or biology, almost no one uses the word.

They need a "blank" controller setting for eack controller. Duplicating and deleting is dumb and pita. Many issues people are having is redundant bindings. This is one area where XP gets it and msobo are amateurs.

What do you think is the most or one of the most important key/button for a helicopter pilot? ... "Force Trim Button!" one might say. Guess what button was missing in 2020 and is still missing in 2024?? Yup... that one! After you have your laugh think... OK... say you also have an helicopter that has trim adjustment hat button.. Like a plane would have on the stick... how do you think would be named the function to Trim the helicopter left - right laterally? Trim left and Trim Right... right?!? Whaaat??? Do you think you are in aviation where you need to be clear and unambiguous??? They are called "Increase and Decrease lateral trim" in MSFS 2020 and 2024!!! The progress is SHOCKING! Not only they hired baboons to do this part of the sim but the baboons were from another solar system altogether!

In Msfs 2024 I can't find Instrument heads-up display - chase cam this minimize gauges when flying outside of the airplane. this setting was under Assistance options however Assistance options in msfs 2024 don't have this please help to find this.

It took you long to figure out how to get in the airplane because you have the tool tips disabled lmao. Its a new game, and you should have left those enabled because a lot of keybinds are different in this game and a lot of those tips are important.

The biggest stupid thing they did was combine the back/save on the same button. So every time you change something and click save it takes you back to the previous screen and you have to click next again 😂

I hope I remember correctly now: Another KZbinr advised not to copy the 2020 "Transversal" but the 2024 instead. .He also showed why . He was one of the very first youtubers explaining this insane part of the sim. Thanks, bye, walter

Hey Walter, yeah I've seen that recommendation as well, for me it's just easier to copy over the one thing I need from the 2024 keyboard (which is Shift+C) to the 2020 keyboard and go from there. There's more than one way to do it obviously, but this is my preference.

spot on, the French hate the English and the English language. I have had meetings with professional French people in France who have refused to speak English even when they are fluent!! So presumably Asobo have written all the code in French and added a shell to translate the French into all the other languages they need. Microsoft should have managed them.

Hey Simmers. Let's be honest as Islandsim has said ... most of the development team do not have English as their first language. Therefore, the 'language' of this 'sim' has been compromised, trying to give every possible action, some kind of 'universal word'. I had to laugh about 'transversal'. There is no universal world language. Maybe the developers tried the French Diplomatic idea ... every old school diplomatic document/treaty was writtern in French, because the idea was that the French language has a different word for everything so you can create a document with no ambiguity. Yeah, right. Apart from the language issue with this sim, the real issue in my humble opinion, as a flight simmer who has flown/used EVERY MSFS since day one 1982, is this utterly impossible 'Controls' section, with a seemingly infinite mess of bindings, assignments and so on. I have a Thrustmaster T16000.M joystick, TWCS throttle and the Thrustmaster rudder pedals. I have been working on-and-off for the several days since the sim's launch to try and create a workable, universal set of bindings, like I have in MSFS2020. And that's just for fixed wing aircraft! I am NOT looking forward to trying to set up my 'must have' element, helicopters. SO ... OK, yes, the eye candy does seem improved in some areas, and the load times are better so far, and we are in the VERY early days of the life cycle of MSFS2024. BUT ... as a supposedly 'Premium' product out-of-the-box ... it's a red-hot mess that will take MONTHS and MONTHS to settle. I guess we're not going anywhere soon ...

I’m so mad I pre ordered, I honestly feel ripped off, this sim is terrible, crashing continuously, planes un fly able. Ap throttles don’t work, the trims oscillation is painful etc etc.. whoever signed off this as finished product needs to be fired!

I bought it thru steam. After 3 days of frustration I uninstalled it, applied for a refund and within 1 hour the refund was confirmed. Great. Flying smoothly in MSFS2020 again. Perhaps in a couple of months I try again

A pet peeve of mine is non-pilots creating and reviewing aircraft and flight simulators. You obviously know about things aviation and I watch your commentaries because of this. This aircraft and walk-around being an example of my pet peeve. Another example is a review of an aircraft by a very popular reviewer on KZbin. He was walking around the aircraft and came upon the grounding strap that must be attached while fueling to guard against static discharge and fire. He had no idea as to what the wire was or its function. In a simulator I want authenticity, not a game. It’s come to the point for me that MSFS is nothing more than a money making enterprise at the expense of authenticity…my two cents.

I am yet to take the plunge and acquire MSFS2024. For the interim and for the sake of the minuscule amount of follicles remaining on my dome, I will continue with MSFS2020 for the time being. Regarding the definition of the word transversal, this does not seem to make sense in light of its application to the Sim. From Merrium-Webster’s definition: transversal noun trans· ver· sal tran(t)s-ˈvər-səl tranz- : a line that intersects a system of lines. (????? 🤨) In any case, hats off to all (especially the content creators) who have dived in to dissect MSFS2024 on our behalf.
