Great video - thanks so much. Perhaps a good addition to the background options when zooming out would be a blurred version of the clip - very useful in slideshows. i.e a Davinci style "bkanking fill".

QUESTION (please pin) - I want something REALLY SIMPLE. A Recompose Tool. Kinda like how dynamic zoom works but with more key frames. So example i have a hampster moving around a maze, i want to drop an output box on him and follow him but i still want to see the maze while i am creating my video and editing but output only the box. Can your tool do this? Can any tool do this? It's just so frustrating doing any crops in resolve when you don't know what is happening outside the crop.

Blackmagic Design should give you a sh*tload of money, to make this a default behaviour in Resolve. It is that good.

Hey man! Running into an issue where the pitch and yaw controls don't seem to be doing anything when I move them around specifically when the pivot type is set to dynamic. Any ideas what might be going on? I've tried dropping the effect on both an adjustment layer and directly on the clip but doesn't seem to matter. They work as they should when the pivot type is set to linked and custom.

Hey dude! So the Dynamic mode is directly linked to the Zoom amount, so you won't get any actual pitch/zoom effect until the zoom has animated. So let it play through a bit, or move your playhead into the middle of the clip and then adjust. The reason for that is so that it always 'works' as the animation timing is linked. side note... I named you as the 'Creator of the week' on our latest podcast recording ha! due out next week i think dude

Hi. Wow. Great Tool. Thinking about to get this today. One question...sorry, i am German... Hope you understand... For example, I want to zoom out of an image. While zooming, I want to apply your effects. The image will then be smaller than the screen area. The now empty background should be a starry sky, for example. So the result: the image becomes smaller, 3D effect and the otherwise empty background is filled. That should work, right?

I spent the morning tinkering with the new Magic Zoom tool and it is amazing, Alex! Even the version with motion blur is nice and quick and doesn't bog down my (already poor) system. I used the previous iteration pretty heavily, and I'm glad the new version is better! Is there an easy/obvious way to reorder the Zoom Type drop-down options? (Or at least the default first selected option)

Thanks!! Glad it's working out for you. Not on the free version, but if you're using pro then you can use the saver. So create a version with the zoom type you want etc, then follow the instructions in the saver panel to save your own preset

First of all, thank you for this absolutely brilliant addon. I love it. Now to my problem: I used the effect twice, but then I realized that I can't set the X twice. Is it me or the free version? Or have I simply overlooked it?

Hey hey! How did you apply the effect twice? Dropped it twice on the same clip? If so, you can adjust the X on both. You just have to open the inspector, expand the one instance of MagicZoom and the X will appear, then click on the other instance of MagicZoom underneath, and then the X will update on the screen.

Hello @MrAlexTech Thank you for this, i just bought the pro version. However, i simply can't get constant zoom to work in the sense i would like to. I make a ton of talking head videos for clients, and in those i would like to use constant zoom on most clips. But no matter what i do, there is some sort of ease in/out regardless of what 'curve' is on. I've tried linear, easing with in/out points set to none, and custom with just a linear curve. I already bought pro version ) but still have a question - will be possible to track a mouse? For example I do a lot of screencast recording - and sometimes want to zoom based on mouse movement. On pro version - tracker will help me with that - or mouse on the screen will be not enough to make tracking?

Unfortunately not. I tried it myself. It was actually the reason I started trying the tracking. But even with a really big cursor, it struggles to track it. It just can't identify it as it's 2d on another 2d surface with no real identifiable points. It sucks I know!

Thanks Alex - just bought the Pro version of the tool! Question - I'm on Davinci 18.6.5 and I do not get the "IntelliTrack" window when using Tracked MagT-Zoom. Without it I'm unable to select the object/point I want to track. Any thoughts here?

You should still get a tracking box appear within the preview? If you're on 18.6, it will just be the older tracker rather than the intellitrack. Still does the trick though!

Hey Alex! Does Magic Zoom respect the source resolution of the clip it's applied on (assuming it's not an adjustment layer?) - for example, if I have a UHD clip in a 1080p timeline and zoom in to a scale of 2, it's incorporating the UHD resolution and not the timeline res, correct?

Does this work on native footage resolution or timeline resolution? I.E: If you have a 4k clip on a 1080p timeline, will it zoom in x2 to 1080p or will it come out as 540p?

I don’t think I’ve ever bought anything as quickly!! Your channel has been so helpful, thank you! Inspired by what you make, I’m really trying to learn and explore the power of the Fusion page recently, but have encountered an issue with my macros that I can’t figure out how to fix. As a simple example, let’s say I have a rectangle that starts at zoom size 0.25 and then grows to 0.5 over 10 frames using a key frame in a transform node. When I export the macro I want to give the user control of the final zoom size at the 10 frame key frame point, but I don’t want them to have control of the 0.25 starting zoom size. Currently when I export a macro with this zoom control available, any changes made by the user in the inspector will instead Zoom the 0.25 start point and then continue to the 0.5 zoom key frame point, 10 frames into the effect. Am I missing something obvious? Any advice would be very much appreciated. Best wishes. Joel.
