Fun Fact: Ben 10's alien of "Way Big", the design and attack move for this alien took heavy inspirations from Ultraman. The creator for the show also confirmed it. That's really cool.

I'm just gonna drop this huge info for those who are confused. This is Shin Ultraman, a modern retelling of the original Ultraman show from 1966, and YES, this is written by Hideaki Anno, the same person behind Shin Godzilla and the creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Ultraman is a MASSIVE part of Japanese pop culture and inspired A LOT OF THINGS in anime and video games, most notably Pokemon and Evangelion. Ultraman's creator, Eiji Tsuburaya, is the one who pioneered and perfected the special effects used in the earlier Godzilla movies and would sometimes borrow suits from Toho back in the day so he could modify them into different monsters, which is why there's a monster here resembling Shin Godzilla, they are paying homage to that fact. No matter what you think of this movie, it isn't just some obscure weird Japanese monster movie, it's a CELEBRATION of Ultraman's 50-year anniversary. Also, you may also think of Way Big when you see Ultraman, that's because Way Big is heavily inspired by Ultraman. Ultraman falls under the genre "Tokusatsu", the same genre as Godzilla and Super Sentai (Power Rangers), and Way Big is from a planet called Toku Star. @@xxprogamerxx7770 Exactly, and part of that is because nobody really knows who Ultraman is outside of Japan so Toho/Tsuburaya never really market it as much as they did in Japan and Southeast Asia. The movie was already a box office hit in Japan and that's really all they cared about, the international box office is basically just a bonus.

As an Ultraman nerd, I am VERY tempted to tell you the names of the monsters, but I'll just say that the electric invisible monster is named Neronga and the drill monster is named Gabora. Gabora actually did not have hat ability in it's original appearance in 1966. And yes, all these monsters came from the original 1966 show, and some even came from the even older show "Ultra Q."

@@chananhy3377 if you mean the kaiju at 0:13, that is Gomess, the very first kaiju from Ultra Q and the very first kaiju in the Ultraman franchise. I think he looks like Shin Godzilla because the original Gomess suit was made from the Godzilla suit. Likewise, the Gomess model in this movie is modified from the 4th form Shin Godzilla model.

The CG and design is so good , the creatures look almost like costumes, a real expression of respect to the originals yet bringing high level realism to the characters. The story seems like it is constantly coming to an end but then it continues, that might get repetitive, but it sure looks like a great visual re-make. The Ultraman character design is very cool and mysterious.

They did it. A movie channel finally brought up the best remake movie of all time. It keeps the themes of the original while still being new enough for the modern day. They even used the same sounds and filming techniques as the 60s show!

Excellent movie to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Ultraman. Great homage to original Ultra Q monsters like Gomess, Mammoth Flower and Peguila. Loved how the movie used the original concept art of Ultraman which signifies Truth, Beauty and Justice over the conventional art style that involved a color timer. Its definitely one of my all time favourites as it depicts how things would turn out if Ultraman actually existed and one day appeared on Earth. Ultraman has always been a phenomenon in Japanese culture as one of the 3 main Tokusatsu giants in the Tokusatsu industry, with Ultraman being the main inspiration for many other works as well like Neon Genesis Evangelion and the alien WayBig from Ben 10.

It makes sense though, one found the planet before the other two and wanted to use it for his own gain and used the kaiju for his plan, the second was just supposed to just watch and research the planet until he became attached to it. And all this comosion alerted the third which wanted to destroy humanity while the fourth alien only came because the second one fused with a human.

Mefilas wanted to weaponized Humanity. Lipiah is Earth’s watcher but became attached to humanity and fused with a human (which is a crime in his planet). Zarab wants humanity to eliminate themselves. Zoffy became Earth’s new watcher and destoyer since they fear of what humanity might become and that he will apprehend Lipiah. Zetton is a solar system destroyer and a huge f•ck you weapon.

A friend of mine is the one who got me into the Ultraman franchise some time ago. I knew about it for a long time, but I didn't really took it very seriously, since even though I've been a tokusatsu fan for many years now, Ultraman was a brand I never really touched upon, because some of the monster designs just looked too silly for me. However, my friend told me to treate these creatures like the animals in the wild, in the way that they have different and bizzare appearance, and that is simply how they are. With this mindset, I started to open my mind more towards the Ultraman franchise, and I'm slowly growing to like it more and more! :) Also, on a side note, for those who are new to The Ultraman franchise, like me, I recommend them to watch the "Absolute Conspiracy" movie/episode, for them to have a summarized introduction with many of the ultramans in the show. It's in very good english dub, and it covers some of Ultraman's history as well. Enjoy! :D

Interesting and enjoyable movie for someone who grew up watching Ultraman on TV . I love them keeping the retro look of ultraman and the kaiju and sets but giving a modern updated lift in terms of plot and storytelling. It's great that they kept a bit philosophical discussion for the ending instead of milking monster battles for all their worth. But I noticed the director did away with Ultraman's blinking chest light for design purposes.
