@@ittbelitt8409 killing and stopping are 2 different issues. Killing is terminating a person's life. The perp may eventually die but in the meantime continue shooting, stabbing, and hacking. Stopping is to force a cessation of hostilities and aggression. That requires damaging enough vitals organs, blood vessels, or central nervous system to cause shock and force the person to cease aggression regardless if he won't go back in for this third strike. If he makes it to thr hospital, fine. If he terminates,.too bad so sad.

@Jonathan Shi Well, when you load a muzzle-loader, you pour the powder in, then place wadding (like a patch of cloth) and then the bullet. Sometimes more wadding after that. The patch of cloth keeps the powder from slipping out. However, there's a little pan on the side that holds a pinch of powder. The hammer lights this pinch of powder, and the little bit of burning powder lights the main charge through a tiny hole in the side of the barrel. A time bit of powder can fall out from the pan, or that tiny hole, but it's really minimal.

I carry a sawed off 10 gauge loaded with Dragon's Breath rounds so I can set someone on fire as I cut them in half. Liberals like it because it still has some wood on it and there's only two barrels. Also because 10 is less than 12 so it's more humane. They were on the fence about the short length but when I explained that it was modified by a vertically-challenged little person with cerebral palsy, they thanked me for my progressive diversity. @@upnorthvlogs Trigger pull bro. Slow and steady, you should almost let it surprise you. Eventually you'll be able to do it without it surprising you. Just simply slowly but steadily press the trigger while keeping your sights on target, last but probably the most important, .40 is stout, it is going to recoil, just simply let it. you should find that your bullet ends up exactly where you were aiming. .40 has a pretty mean snap, it can cause recoil anticipation(you pulling the muzzle either low or left, sometimes both) and a flinch without you realizing it. Give this a try and report back. Eventually you'll be able to do the trigger pull and control the recoil without throwing your shot.

40 is an awesome round. So is 9. Ok, toss in the 45 as well. I have carried all 3 on duty and have seen a 9mm one shot stop. I have seen suspects take multiple hits from 45 and live. I was involved in a shooting with 40 and it works as advertised. My point is that shot placement and knowing your platform is more relevant than caliber. I carry 40 on duty, 9 off duty, and 45 on the nightstand. I guess you can have it all :)

I hunt with a .44mag, so I've gotten used to the recoil. So, when I train with my 9's, or .40's, or .45's, I have to admit, I don't pay attention to recoil. My focus is on my target. I don't feel outgunned, with any of them. Or even my .380 summer gun. The most important defensive tool, is the one between your ears. You want a 90mm mindset. When it is time to protect yourself, or your family, you can't doubt, that you will persevere. If it takes you a split second longer, to make this a one shot stop, vs a 15 shot panic spray, that misses the target altogether, and endangers everyone else in the vicinity, you HAVE to take that time and risk. It comes back to training. Mr. Badguy is under stress too. He didn't anticipate finding a sheepdog, among the sheep. And now, he's staring down your barrel. You have to train dynamically. Don't go to a range, "kill" the heck out of a paper target, that is stationary, doesn't return fire and think this will suffice. Find somewhere you can shoot steel targets, and are able to move around and still hit. Shoot with your offhand. Shoot while laying on the ground, or some other odd position. Learn to reload, with only your offhand. These are drills that will save your bacon. And, don't be afraid to practice dryfiring at home. Modern firearms are not damaged by this. This helps your draw, sight alignment, and gives you a muscle memory, so that you will automatically do certain things faster and more consistently. What's the best caliber? The one that's comfortable for you, that you have confidence in, and is in your capable hands, at the worst time of your life.

Having been in emergency services for over 40 years, (911 paramedic and ER nurse), I have seen quite a few shootings with everything from a BB gun to 12ga shotguns. I have seen "one shot DRT" (dead right there) kill with a .25 acp, and someone shot multiple times with 12ga buckshot who was still able to fight back. The essential element to any defensive use of a firearm is shot placement. With under-powered rounds like .25 acp, .32acp (or .32 S&W), .22LR from a handgun, etc. the best bet is to place multiple rounds in the thinnest parts of the skull, such as through the eye sockets. I have even seen 9mm hardball fail to penetrate thicker parts of the skull, (spent many years working 911 in Texas. Lots of very hard heads here! Who needs an IQ test when you can get a Rockwell scale test on your cranium!) While an experienced shooter should be able to place their shots at will, it is quite a bot more difficult to do so when the target is moving, shooting back and the shooter is experiencing a massive dump of adrenalin in their system. People who work in high stress, dangerous jobs, (police officers, EMT/Paramedics, firefighters, combat soldiers, Waffle House cooks ;-P , etc.) or participate in "adrenalin" type sports, (sky diving, whitewater rafting, etc.), have a much better chance of placing their shots effectively under real-world defensive conditions. A handgun round that provides adequate penetration, and creates enough tissue damage to disrupt the central nervous system is really all that is required. Disrupting the cardiovascular system, (i.e. causing hypovolemic shock), is much slower method of stopping the threat, although much easier to achieve under stress-fire circumstances, which is why "center of mass" is taught for defensive shooting. Waiting for your assailant to bleed out while they are actively attacking you probably seems like FOREVER during the event, as time seems to run in slow motion during these high-stress events.

I've been shooting .40 cal for years. Love it. I never really noticed any weird recoil, but then I started with a .45 ACP Colt Officer's Model. From there I went to a Ruger P85 9mm which got stolen. I was left with only my Ruger Redhawk .44 Mag for years before I got my first .40, a Ruger P94DC. I did very well with it and because I was used to the recoil of the .44 Mag, it felt pretty light to me. I added a Beretta 96G which I never really liked. It was very comfortable in my hand, but I couldn't get it to shoot accurately for crap. Finally, I got a Beretta 8040 Cougar and I fell in love with it. It was stupid accurate and it felt super smooth to shoot. I've since graduated to the PX4 Storm. Using the same rotating barrel system it's just as smooth and accurate as the 8040. I'm not terribly fond of the polymer frame, but I can live with it. The only down side I have is that I injured my pinky and ring finger on my dominate hand and must have done some nerve damage. It's been more than a year now and shooting handguns (as well as using tools or gripping things tightly) make those to fingers ache like a sumbeeotch. Luckily, rifle shooting which is my true passion doesn't bother them. I only shoot the handgun as practice since it's my carry weapon. Unfortunately, knowing the pain I'll be in after makes it hard to force myself to hit the range with the pistol and I'm pretty sure anything bigger of my MK II .22LR Slab Side would cause the same situation.

Own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. Four ruffians break into my house. "What the devil?" As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. Draw my pistol on the second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog. I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "Tally ho lads" the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. Fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up. Just as the founding fathers intended.

Here is the answer to the caliber war. Semi auto cartridges are weaker then revolver and rifle calibers. But nonetheless, bullets kill, train with what you can afford and handle and shot placement is key. BTW, I couldn't decide either so I went with .357 SIG.
@cdgonepotatoes4219
@cdgonepotatoes4219 8 жыл бұрын
semi-auto calibers are weaker because the're shorter to fit in the magazine while still having a comfortable grip, yes, but revolvers have the cylinder gap to deal with that "bleeds" gas out of it, so you get what's called a power bleedout. the argument over this stuff is more what caliber is better for carry, it needs to be powerful but also quiet (to avoid ropturing an ear drum, trust me it's not nice if it happens and it will happen if you get assaulted by someone and obviously, not being at a range, you won't have earplugs on). Accuracy isn't much to look at as you will be very probably in a close quarter scenario and you won't have time to take aim. Another thing is that weaker people need to look at the blowback, as some guns misfire if the muzzle flip isn't controlled that much and you'll never have a great grip in these situations to nullify the excessive pivoting of the weapon.

I've never owned or fired a Taurus. But, I do own a 8 shot .357--the M&P R8. Great revolver. As for the lack of capacity, I do believe it's a valid complaint. However, for me, it's not the capacity that's an issue, it's the reload time that annoys me. As much as I like automatics, I do love a good revolver. I like the aesthetics, the functionality, and I love the trigger. Revolvers certainly have the trigger down pat! Either way though, I love pretty much any type of firearm. I will shoot anything. I own a shotgun, a few AKs, a revolver, and automatic pistols.

Exceeds the 357 Mag? Maybe a hot 10mm and a mediocre 357. If they're both hot rounds the 357 smokes it. If they're both mediocre rounds the 357 smokes it, especially since many big box ammo manufacturers down load 10mm to basically 40sw specs.

You also have to ask, "Which caliber is best for the task I think I'll need my firearm to do." If one caliber was best, there would be no other calibers, only the one, as it would be the best at everything... but that is a fantasy, and why we have so many calibers one could go their whole life without hearing about many of them. Much like there is no one tool to build everything, and there are many tools you never heard of, but are really good at one specific application.

I shot both a lot against all types of targets and most times couldn't tell you on a practical level that there was much difference. later I took a training class from an ex Israeli commando who had done many times what we were training for. The main problem with the caliber debt is that it puts way too much emphasis on the equipment. What ultimately counts in a gun fight is proven tactics and proper training. For every caliber that people either love or hate, there is a documented accounts of said round being effective with one shot and also of said round being ineffective with multiple shots. This is even true with rifle rounds. There are so many variables that might make a particular caliber right for one person and wrong for another and vise versa. And then there are certain situations that may make a particular caliber more desired than another. Unfortunately due to the nature of a gunfight, we do not have the luxury of being able to dictate or control all of the unknown factors. The only thing we can determine is how well trained we are when the wolf is at our door. So no matter what caliber you choose for whatever reason you choose it, it doesn't mean a thing unless you train as if your life depends on it. Because at the end of the day, your life does. Stay safe brothers and sisters and train, train, and train some more.

Because there's a fundamental issue people miss. Handguns are handguns, not rifles. Those fancy numbers on paper add up to differences that make for tiny fractions of an inch differences in ballistic gel. Meanwhile, they deliver exponentially more recoil, vastly lower capacity, and are more expensive. 9mm strikes the happy medium on all levels and can be loaded to near 357 magnum power levels or down to bunny fart competition levels. So at the end of the day, the most pros vs cons put 9mm ahead of the pack, which is why it's used by nato.

Who the hell cares the purpose of my original comment was to say carry what you want everything doesn't have to be an argument. All pistol rounds are essentially the same with the exception of a few so, yeah 9mm is a good round but at the same time so are all the others. Train with what you want to train with, at the end of the day the gun is going to be on your hip no one elses, and if you got to use it to defend your self your probably going to be better off using a gun and a round your familiar with than anything else. It has nothing to do with ballistics and what have it because carry handguns aren't making a big difference in power, it seems likes like everyone thinks because some firearms instructor on youtube tells them that if they aren't carrying this gun and round they have a small dick when the reality of the matter is if you've trained with any of these guy like Yager, or Costa, or Livas, Raidon you'll know that even the people that are working with them don't always carry that particular round or gun. They do it to stir shit up on youtube for people who don't know any better and that don't go out and train. I'll tell you now after going to South Port N.C. and training with Yager he isn't all he's cracked up to be unless you've never been anywhere else to train. And he's the one that started this whole if you don't carry this round and and a glock you've got a little dick....Well I haven't seen him whip it out to prove that he's not carrying that gun and that round with a little dick anyways.

I actually like the recoil impulse of the .40 in my VP. It reminds me of the .41/.44 that I unfortunately sold and wish I could get back. Loaded with .41, it was a tack driver with just a hint of snap. I like the .45 “push” and never really felt comfortable with the snappiness of the higher power 9’s. For some reason, I’m just more comfortable and accurate with the .40..... which is the most important anyway. Years ago I was at a range and in the lane next to me was a gal maybe in her mid 20’s, shooting a .380. She had that paper all the way down the range. I watched her quickly run through three magazines....... and when the target came back, my jaw hit the floor. She had dime sized stickers all over it, and each one had a clean hole right through the middle........... I want her on my side.

miky smith You might as well carry 9mm at that point.... 9mm sub compacts are usually the same size or slightly larger and you get way better ballistics from the 9mm.

+Sup3r6f0ur the only reason to have a .380 is for the micro's. I have a subcompact 9mm that I carry 95% of the time and I also have a micro.380 for the other 5%. those days that I am wearing basketball shorts and have to do a little running around. the micro .380 fits the bill. I'll never carry a .380 every day but it's nice to have for an option.

There's nothing wrong with 9mm Luger or the .45 ACP, but I like the balance between capacity and power that .40 S&W provides. As Colion's "therapist" points out, though, .357 Sig is the best carry round. My Glock and my Sig have swappable barrels, so I can go either way.

Funny. But talking seriously: .40 isn't a "compromise" caliber, despite just about EVERYONE saying that as of late. It's stronger than both .45 and 9mm.

😂😂😂 before I knew much about handguns, I'd shot both the .40 and .45. To my surprise I felt that the .45 recoil was more manageable for follow up shots even though it is larger. The .40 was just sharper. I thought it was just me until I found that so many others felt the same way. It just didn't make sense to me personally to carry something with less manageable recoil than a .45 and be smaller than a .45. So I sold my first handgun (in .40) and now stick to 9 and 45.

Honestly I don't understand all this recoil talk if ur a grown man and can shoot a 9mm.. a 40 isn't that much off....can barely tell the difference...45 as well...what u can tell the difference is the gun ur using...a small lightweight gun with a 40 or 45 can definitely hurt ur hand...I shot a slim line glock 36 In 45 n it kinda hurt but shooting a G27 or G23 is perfect imo ..doesn't hurt....and a full size 1911 feels like a 9mm..imo as well

LOL, you slaying me DAWG! I enjoy the feel of a M50 going off in the palm of my hand, every time I squeeze a round off! Reminds me that if I'm paying a little bit of a price, whatever is on the receiving end of that round is going to pay a little bit more of a price. Hey, carry whatever you're comfortable with and can conceal. I don't think a 44 Mag with an 8 inch barrel is going to conceal, unless you're a Buddhist monk wearing your winter Snuggy. As far as the 357 Sig, that is a beautiful round, with a somewhat magical muzzle flash. Either or, for me. I just happen to be ammo'd up for my Forty.

Colion you need to do one on .357 sig guys, they're worse than .40 guys, all they talk about is how superior they think their round is to everyone else's and its really annoying considering the obscurity of the round
@williamcarmine8868
@williamcarmine8868 9 жыл бұрын
The .40 was an answer looking for a question, then the stuffed a 9mm round in the case and made it an answer that we don't need an answer to justify. Its a nice round, actually very close to the .357 magnum with the 125 grain loads (maybe not so much compared to a 6 or 8 inch barrel .357 mag, but definitely comparable to a 4 inch .357) but if someone gets it, they better get a .40 conversion barrel to afford to train with it. That shit's 2x the cost of .40, and that's considerably more than 9mm.

William Carmine yes thats what kills me about .357 sig guys, all they want to do is convince themselves that their gun is the best and they do it by cramming their beliefs down other peoples' throats like radical christians. And instead of admitting to themselves that they got that gun "just cuz" they want to pretend that its god's gift to earth and that everybody who carries anything else is an idiot

Really? Because my local ffl owner carries one just because he liked the round. That's what he tells people. And his employees carry a Glock 19 gen 2 and the other can't pick between a revolver or autoloader and alternates carrying them, but the owner never said they were stupid, they all just picked a caliber because it Appleseed to them for whatever is reason.

.45 is too big, grip ends up too fat, and .45s have reduced range because their velocity starts right at expansion threshold. 9mm is too small, with light bullets, doesn't recoil that much less than .40 in a full size, and only matches .40 power with overpressure. I'll take 15+1(19+1with an extendable baseplate), slightly more recoil, 450-500 ft/lbs with no overpressure rounds necessary. If a modern glock 22 really wears out that much faster than a glock 17, I have yet to see it. Also makes shooting jugs and watermelons much more fun.

I hate when people only stick to one caliber each one has its pros and cons. To each is own I love .22 LR for planking/fundamental practice but I wouldn’t use it for self defense. 380 ACP is a little under powered; bigger bullet and it is easier to manage recoil and better penetration then .22. 9mm in my opinion is the best option for carry! They are relatively cheap compared to 45/10mm ammo they get good ballistics and still easy to manage recoil. 40 is a solid round people complain about the recoil but it’s a 40s&w designed to be powerful so it’s a given that you’ll get more recoil. 45 is a big fat round it’ll put a bigger wound channel different recoil then 40 though. I carry a G23 Gen5 or a G26 Gen4
