When the legal process no longer works things start getting sketchy between the government and the people of the country. That seems like an impossible disconnect for them to get over. None of us are looking for that fight. We *want* to be left alone, stay as invisible as the next non-descript person on the street/store/etc. With crime never going away, especially in districts where crime isn't combatted sufficiently, if we become the target of a bad guy, we simply want the chance to not be killed. How that's a difficult concept to get across, I'll never know. But the crazy thing is, I don't know if they realize they are entitled to these same rights. Obviously everyone is different, but simply letting them know that as Americans they, too, can defend themselves should they so choose to. I can think of at least two different times that made a bell go off in (previously) anti-gun friends of mine.
