Looking at the brushes offcentre placing this motor should be spinning the other way. Need to change the jumper and field connectors

When run on dc current those motors have better be connected as dc shunt motors. The field windings should be connected in parallel with the armature and not in series. This way they work with more power (torque). Moreover they can be easily controlled in terms of torque and rpm.

Hmmmmm...in this case, the Motor is running on approx. 5% of its capability. I often use tis Metod to test such Motors, if they work and/or if the bearings ok... For higher RPM and torque you can add more batterys in series. 24 / 36 / 48 Volt and so on..up to 240 Volt. Thats the Voltage, what the Motor is made for. But at this Voltage, the RPM will run away on you. You can use the tachometer at the back of the motor in conjunction with a microcontroller and a Mosfet (PWM) to controll the speed and torque, because such Motors run on AC and DC. Maybe i will make a video about that at some point in the future..... Greets from Germany.
