Great build series it is awesome to see Young ones wanting to work and learn with their parents! Great job Little Miss and great job MrheavyChevy for your video series and not being afraid to show your mistakes because seeing these mistakes helps us to learn when we incur these problems! Kudos to the MrheavyChevy family from the blind guy and his daughter

Awesome work on the project! Congratulations to Little Miss HevyShevy, and the Professor and underwriter, and all of the pit crew that assisted. Wish you continued success with the installation, too. I sure miss the fun times I had blowing them up and then rebuilding things. From humble beginnings on Briggs and Stratton, Tecumseh, Stihl, Homelite, McColloch, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Bombardier-Rotax, Yamaha, Ford, GM, Detroit, Caterpillar. Learned that as you get older, it's more fun to run them responsibly than to have to do the dirty work. While I'm sure that that engine will run for a long time, I've also learned that things change a lot these days, and likely Little Miss will one day yearn for something different. Hopefully the respect and responsibility is something that's never forgotten. In the meantime, enjoy. The best thing you'll take away from this is the time spent with Dad.

I am very impressed ! , most younger people do not even know how to hold a wrench - let alone which way to tighten a nut or bolt . Little Miss Rocks !!! . a 283 is very good on gas (just keep your toes out of the carb). Little Man looks great with his Iron Man haircut . Thanks for sharing . Ray in Pa.

Was not admonishing you about it. I make mistakes all the time while doing about anything. I know yours wasn't a mistake, on that you have been working on and building engines a long time. I do enjoy seeing your whole family involved in things in the shop. Your wife comes up with nice critters from spare parts.keep up the good videos.

Getting an engine to run is one thing , but getting a carbeureted engine to idle is a whole other animal . Good job !

Hi there, -longtime follower here, -decided to finally get onboard with this youtube subscriber thing to be able to post comments. Love your channel and have been watching every episode since the first one. This one kind of hit home with me though as a single dad, -it is always nice to hear an engine run for the first time, but it is something more when you teach the kids and have them help, -I could see that "proud dad" look on your face, -there ain't no hiding that! -Well done my friend! I also have a soft spot for 283's as that was the very first engine I ever built, -for my first driver, a Chevy Luv pickup, -yes, I got a lot of tickets back in my day being 16 years old with a V-8 Luv truck, but I wouldn't go back and change a thing. By the way, that 283 has some crisp throttle response and great oil pressure, -nicely done.

Ratman572 I was wondering if you had seen the video where MrHevychevy notched out the frame for the rear end to clear, I text him about it but he doesn't remember which one it was, and I can't find it at all, it was on the 55 MrsHevychevy's truck . if you could help, it would be Greatly appreciated . Thank you Charlie Brown ..

I worked at chevy V8 engine plant in Flint , MI. they used to put the distributor in every motor with the cap on the distributor when they put it in and they were all in the right tooth and in time. This is just a trick that not a lot of people know about. There is a small drill spot on the distributor gear, all you do is bring the motor up on number one compression top dead center and with the vacuum advance placed about where it it should be, face that drill spot to the front and drop the distributor in and it will be in time.

man you are a guy with my kind of build. 283 q jet. just need a decent cam which It sounds like it has. power pack heads and stiffen up the advance springs in the distributer and give it all the advance it will take. then put a 4 speed behind it with some 411 gears. Dont be afraid to rev that sucker up to 6800 because thats what it likes.

Fantastic.... Love seeing the Q jet on top ..... My fave...& great job of the rebuild , that is amazing . With a good vac gauge , I remember the idle with a LT 1 cam was about 18 " hg .... If you found the back 2 bolts carb bracket , you could get the 2 return springs on the other side. But what the heck , great valve covers , fantastic exhaust manifolds (old school) and it runs dead smooth . Thanks for posting and great to see all your great family members are part of the fun

I had that same vacuum gauge back in the day, that I used to do tune ups - twist the distributor to the highest reading, tune the carb. to the highest reading. Other then adjusting lifters or indexing the spark plugs I was done messing around under the hood . The thinking there is an engine is a pump, pure and simple and if it's moving air at a peak volume , your good to go! Lazy? maybe, effective - definitely! (Big big fan of your vids Thanks)

I been watching you for sometime now got turned on by One and only farmer, when he got he's ford flathead. Not trying to tell you anything because you seam to know more then me. But I think if you take the flex-plate off and install a heaver flywheel it would help on cold starts and low idles the more mass you got rotating the easier the engine stays spinning with a automatic the torque converter adds the weight. just something that works for me Great job I love how you are teaching your kids

I enjoy watching the heavychevy videos of old motors and trucks being restored. I just want to say that while the infatuation with V8's is cool, I'd like to see the chevy 4.3 V6 have more respect. I mean it is only about 20 cubes less than the 283 and has enough torque to propel a full sized half ton. These motors are durable, plenty full, fuel injected and parts are dirt cheap. A cammed up 4.3 vortec 6 cyl. motor would have plenty of muscle, less emissions and better economy. Perhaps the bolt pattern is the same as the V8.
