I totally agree this song was so much better the live version and he was younger and it just you would really liked it more I think then this is sort of sad to hear for me because rocket Man was a very important song to me, but mumble muzzled he's the one that wrote the song for Diana after she died,
@patrickhenry46753 жыл бұрын
He always seems to pick the worst live version possible. On Hey Jude for example, the Beatles had their own live version, so he could have heard it at its prime. He had no clue Paul was a Beatle, so that hurt him in his search for the best version. Also, he continues to not understand metaphor and takes every line sung at face value, like a bar in a rap song, without thinking about its context within the whole song.
@timm70713 жыл бұрын
@Patrick Henry Doing a bit of research on Elton would have been a good idea. "I'm gonna be high as a kite by then." ... Yes. Yes he will. And that's essentially the context of the song from there. Understanding just how wild Elton was in his youth would have helped greatly.

The idea of seeing Elton live, (as I have done 7 times over the last 40 years), is to watch his improvising. I go to a concert to be entertained, If it's a duplicate of the album/cd, then I could stay home and listen to it, irrespective of who the artist is. For other live versions of Rocket Man, check out his version from the Ephesus concert.... my favorite, and in the early 70's live. Many have commented on his voice... people must remember his throat cancer of years ago, which Elton called a blessing as it gave him a deeper tone. Many times I have heard in just the past few years he feels vocally he is where he wished he could have started. Seems many here disagree... but I have only been to two less than outstanding Elton concerts before so... no complaints here.

The "Rocket Man" chorus became somewhat popular 2-3 years ago as Donald Trump was negotiating with communist North Korean dictator "Dear Leader" Kim Jong-un over eliminating his development of rockets with nuclear weapons attached. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Jong-un "Rocket Man" became Kim Jong Un's nickname. That is why you may have recognized part of this song.

Rocket Man is from the heyday of Elton John & Bernie Taupin creations. EJ provided the music BT the lyrics. And to think Elton was only singing because they couldn't find a singer to create a demo tape that would go out to a lot of different folks, just trying to get a job as songwriters... Imagine if someone would have done it for them...?!?! AND Before you go look for a studio version of Rocket Man try this version kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKSuooCEedSFatE IMHO tis the best version of Rocket Man! And it's LIVE

To those who are pointing out the vast differences in his voice, he had vocal node surgery in 1987, it wasn't until the mid 90's he even felt as though he was able sing with any consistency. He lost almost an entire Octave of vocal range. That said, he has not used his higher range as often due to his age as well,

Timely with everyone flying to space lately. Not the best version of this song but it's Sir Elton so it can't be bad. Pretty sure he wore that jacket at one of the concerts I went to? Rocketman is the name of his movie that came about about the same time as Bohemian Rhapsody. A few Elton songs: Sorry seems to be the hardest word Candle in the Wind (the song he changed some words and sang at Princess Diana's funeral. The original is about Marilyn Monroe) I want love I'm still standing, is a fun video Sacrifice I guess that's why they call it the blues

My guy if youre gonna react to this song at least pick a version of it from 1985 and earlier. The later years he dodges so many notes and keys notes down like crazy because he had nodules in late 1986 and caused permanent vocal damage. 90% of the time he plays the piano differently from the studio recording but his voice is what changes the most

Yep. You definitely need to go listen to the studio version of this song. It originally came out in the 1970's. I haven't seen this particular concert clip before, but it is obviously fairly recent as Sir Elton is decidedly older. This song was a huge, huge hit for him. I know you live in Spain, but you might remember in the past few years while Donald Trump was President, that Trump had started to call the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, "Little Rocket Man". That title came from the title of this song. So yes, Sir Elton's voice has started to fail him, but his piano playing is still nothing short of brilliant. This does not appear to be a red piano he is playing. I just read in the news last week that Sir Elton had his red grand piano that he used a lot in touring, sold at auction for something like $850,000. It was purchased by some man who owned a professional sports team - I think in the U.S. Elton does not tour any longer.

Just because his voice doesn't have the range it used to doesn't mean he's not putting all his effort into it. You can actually hear the force and effort in his voice, and there's something beautiful about the gravel in his voice and the amount of emotion he puts into it.

@@maxhess3151 I disagree. He’s going through the motions on parts of the song because he’s sung it literally thousands of times. It’s just a few parts I’m talking about anyway. Anyone who has seen him in concert recently knows he puts on one hell of a show.
