This song … means A LOT to my family. This song came out when my Niece and Sister in Law passed away in a house fire several years back. My brother, their dad and husband was a BROKEN MAN after that. I grew up wanting to be like my brother, he taught me how to ride a bike, skateboard etc… I ended up going through a divorce after 15 years right after their deaths. I moved to my brother’s town and we were both holding on by a thread. We used to cruise around in my car on back roads with this song cranked up and just SANG at the top of our lungs … song on repeat! We grew up with our dad singing in local honkeytonks, bars and beerjoints to make extra cash on the side. Both my dad and brother had that soul and rasp in their voices. I think maybe another reason why we connected to this song. I will forever have these memories buried deep in my soul and This song got us through some tough times!

My favourite song of Stapleton's is "Sticks that made thunder" from his days with the Steeldrivers. It's a song about a battle during the civil war, through the eyes of a tree that was situated in the middle of the battlefield. Amazing writing!!

You would enjoy his Tiny Desk concert at NPR which is 3 songs, very intimate. His wife, Morgane , is with him. Also, Fool Me Again is a good one, done on a songwriter cruise when he was younger. Amazing power while just chillin' on a deck chair. I don't know if you saw that he also spent time in a bluegrass band. He has great influences to go with all that natural power and grit.

The man first went to nashville as a songwriter and has NUMEROUS number one hits under his belt that were written for other artist such as Drink A Beer and many others, i would highly recommend researching his writing credits and his time with the blue grass band THE STEELDRIVERS which he sang the original version of MIDNIGHT TRAIN TO MEMPHIS

I, like yourself, am a music fan. Not a country fan. Your reactions to Morrisette and Rage against the machine got me to your channel. I recommend anything "live" . Was able to go to his concert pre-covid and he is one of only 2 artists I've heard that sound better in person than engineered. Nothing compares to you, and Do right woman are both incredibly done. And, were both done as tributes literally hours after each icon( Prince and Aretha) had passed. Dude is so humble and sincere and he just emotes that connection whenever he sings live. My personal favorite is Death Row.

This is a song about people dying too soon. The studio version with his wife singing harmony is amazing. Check out his song “Daddy Doesn’t Pray Anymore”. He wrote it in about 15 minutes while his wife was getting ready for a night our.

So many people these days think they can sing and call themselves "Artist" Chris can sing, play, write and I believe have no problem helping split a load of fire wood or throw hay. Just saying this is as genuine as a real "ARTIST" can get. Check out his song "Run Maggie Run" it is about the family dog they found in a store parking lot. I have no musical talent and don't know much about particular instruments. What I have heard or seen others comment about is that guitars are like fine wine, they get better w age. As the wood wears or ages the sound apparently gets better. I don't think that's just some guitar, I think it's a very expensive old guitar. Someone smarter or more knowledgeable than me probably could tell you what that is. Reguarding the song writers, Chris I believe wrote this song. As with most of his own music. He actually was a song writer long before he became famous on his solo career. I think I have seen that he has written over 170 chart topping Ng songs for other artist, some that are very big over the past 15 yrs.
