wonder if air was sucked out of the case would it get super quiet cos where there is no air there is no sound...might be something to try

Drill a hole and fill it with spray foam.

A word of warning your exhaust muffler is indoors. These are poorly assembled and leak carbon monoxide plus there's a moisture drain hole in it compounding the issue.
