My dad's a contractor, He used to tell me stories about some of his rich clients that would spend stupid amounts of money on utter garbage just to show off but he also said it was a contractors dream. This man with extractor fans on the outside barbecue area is a prime example. The house itself probably barely has a 100 mil worth of material value but he was charged an added 400mil to finish it because he has more money then brains.

A few issues here: 1. Guy has 7 pools and, admittedly, a kitchen that'll never get used. His idea of sustainability is having fake plants as decor. 2. This is a neighborhood in L.A., the city with America's worst homeless problem. This home is everything wrong with society. 100k sq ft for one guy. Big time HAIYAA. Anyway, good work, Uncle Roger. I saw no covers for those pools either, so the water is going to be evaporating like mad and need to constantly be replaced too. The only thing that isn't wasteful in this house is that the way it's set up does look like it could let a nice breeze through - keeping it cool or warm with minimal electrical heating... Which is a blessing because that floorplan and miles of marble flooring would make electrical heating a money sink anyways. This is the kind of house you build when you want to kill your Sims.

The putting surface looked like artificial grass, so there's that. The rest, though, I agree totally. 7 water features including a massive pool, on a mountaintop in LA (where it's sunny almost all the time) means a ton of evaporation for the pools, and LA is in a severe drought right now. So not wasteful /s

this house is like what I would build in the Sims. Build really large rooms and space then try to position furniture to make it not looks empty, 13 couches around one TV in the lounge room with only 1 couch having a good view of the TV and a random pot plant or decoration in middle of nowhere to break up the space, and only 4 people living in the house. this house cost about $30m for the structure and land, $70m for the marble, weird wallpapers and carpets. And $400,000 for the weird random arts that they insured for $400m and strategically spread around the house waiting to be an insurance payout.

Two standout comments is how soul less it is, and then the end comment about the being cheated on...which goes back to my original point about cardio in a way.

This designer is so proud of himself for a completely unnecessary house. He literally said "I don't believe in waste" then he proceeds to show off a kitchen that "no one will use" that has like 4 or more ovens. It's infuriating to me because everything in this house is excessive and wasteful. Only a truly egotistical person would buy this house, and even then it would likely only be used for bragging rights. I mean, you could hear them on camera being out of breath and winded just from all the walking by the time they reach the outdoor track... I honestly could keep ranting, but everyone gets my point; I just hate it so much.

But in Asia some street food vendors do install a fan right above their cooking wok. Especially those that does stir fry that emits lots of fumes and smoke. Those irritates the eyes. And you do not want the cooks eyes and nostrils to be irritated else the food comes slow. So there is some merit in installing an extracting fan even if it is outdoors.

Soulless. Perfect description. When I was a young preteen girl, I wanted to look more sophisticated and intelligent than I was, so I shunned more quaint and older styles in favor of the ultra-modern style (think 2001 Space Odyssey). Lol. As I got older, I realized there's much beauty in different interior design styles (I have a few favorites for my own personal style, but there's beauty in all of them- even '60s-'80s, lol). Minimalist Modern needs to have elements of other styles or warmer natural elements in order to have personality. Or... you end up with that "soulless shopping mall" we just saw.

You need to change houses just to go from the kitchen to the dining room. You need to switch condos to get to the garden. Why does he say the house is warm when he chooses sterile and cold colors ? With materials that are known to be cold being used all over. The garden is also depressing, just grass, nothing like a stylish greenhouse for growing spices, no trees, bushes or flower, he didn't even take some cues from Zeen gardens to create an ambiance of tranquility. How does he expect anyone to reach anything in that office, with no practical solution like stairs or a bookshelf stair. Who does he expect to work there, a giraffe ? I'm sorry, but building a house at that altitude and doing nothing to take advantage of the beauty of the locale is plain incompetent. A simple one would be to make the pool into an infinity pool, with a cocktail bar island in the middle. His kitchen doesn't seem to have practicality in mind. No work surfaces, or easy access to appliance or connectors, no professional oven in this so called luxury kitchen (no artisanal oven in the open kitchen either). Plus just getting from one side of the kitchen to the other is too inconvenient due to the huge surface. That house is, in my opinion, a monument to expensive bad taste and lack of imagination.

We're getting ready to put an addition on our 3 bedroom, 1 bath house. We started off kind of crazy with a second floor, 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a living room and a family room. Then we realized our son will be graduating high school in a few years and it will just be 3 of us left. We cut it down to 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a huge open kitchen/family room (because we love to cook and always do family holidays at our house). I'm much happier having a home that fits us perfectly and saving money for more fun stuff! Seeing this house hurts my soul, thinking how close it is to a city with so many homeless people. Then this guy had the balls to talk about how that ugly sculpture is going to help people in 3rd world countries through art and music?! Dude, help out your own community first! He could have taken. 001% of that $500,000,000 and started a soup kitchen. Or even a tiny bit more to start program that helps those in need find jobs, healthcare and a safe place to stay. I don't have 500 MILLION dollars, but I try to do my part with what I have. All I see in this video is a douche trying to give himself autofellatio and another douche amazed by grass 🙄
