talent is essentially being gifted at the game immediately, and doing really well even if you're not very experienced. genetics fall into that same category, as having good genetics can make you talented at a game you never really played. what separates players like whitecat, rafis, cookiezi, and vaxei from an average player who may have gotten into the game and immediately started passing high difficulty maps but hasn't seen much improvement is work ethic. those 4 players have capitalized off their potential, and used it to become the best by playing a lot and trying to improve everyday. basically, hard work beats talent, until the talented works hard.

Everyone has a limit to the bpm they can stream in osu. They can't go beyond that bpm no matter how hard they tried. Some people are just naturally gifted to be able to go faster than others like merami, but it is a fact that everyone is capable of improving the speed that they can stream just through hard work, albeit only to their limit. Hence, I am saying that no one has reached their true limit but players who have had a good amount of time spent in this game would most definitely be close to their limits on pure clicking speed.

The problem for me is that I have been working at speed for a number of months now and I can only make it up to 230 bpm for about 10 - 15 seconds. My friend however putting no conscious effort into practicing speed can nearly stream 300 bpm. I agree with the essence of what you've said, but I'd just like to tell my point of view. I would say that I'm at least of average talent (haha so cocky), which is absolutely enough to become an incredible player with enough hard work. BUT I would also say I am definitely held back by genetics. I have a movement disorder which makes it very hard to control my muscles well. I have to constantly fight against an uncontrollable shake, and I'm always tense (if I don't tense I shake even more and move much slower). I truly believe that it is because of this disorder that I haven't been able to improve my finger speed even a little bit after half a year of constant training (stuck at 150bpm lmao). I'm definitely not going to give up or falter, but in my own personal experience, genetics has had a big impact on how I've played. I don't follow the osu community very closely, so I'm not knowledgeable on how they view this topic, but from what you've said in the video I definitely agree with you more than "my genetics makes me unable to stream 200bpm" even when they are a completely average and healthy person, it's not like they have an actual medical condition holding them back. I just think this topic is a bit more nuanced than people think. There's the small genetic stuff, like how much fast twitch muscle you have, which would NOT hold you back from being an amazing player, and then there's the big genetic stuff, like neurological disorders, which will hold you back depending on the severity

Do you think having a musical background would help with something like osu? A bunch of patterns can be boiled down into music terms and can be easily digested, understood, and executed. As someone who took music before getting into the game, improvement was easier for me because I understood what was going on rhythmically and could apply it to the game. What do you think of that?

I guess top players like vaxei or whitecat are actually a combination of both. This exact thing also applies to traditional sports. Of course LeBron was not born to put a basket into a hoop while following specifics rules on how to do so, but a combination of being an absolute freak of nature as an athlete (genetics) and his incredible hard work when it comes to getting better as a basketball player (dedication, thus creating talent) was just abnormal, and that same combination was perfect for the game of basketball. Same for osu!. Vaxei is just naturally good at the game, with some genetics helping, plus the insane dedication he had made him perfect for being at good at osu! and improve at an insane rate to become the legend that he is right now, same for whitecat.

Here's a simple rule. I studied music and every PHd in this field says the same thing, no matter who you ask: Talent makes someone who practiced an instrument for 500 hours play like someone who practiced for about 1000-2000 hours, but then everyone hits a barrier. To truly master an instrument everyone needs to play his instrument for about 7000 hours. And yes, this should be the same for Osu.

Genetics is 100% a thing, but still that isn't the problem you suck in osu, genetics is a thing in almost everything. Even if you just say "you just have dont have to give up and play alot", that's also genetics, some people are more patient than others, and some people improve faster. I'm not saying if you're born without good genetics u can't get good, just saying if u don't have really good genetics you're not gonna be the best, but you can definitely get up there. So all in all, if u have bad genetics, keep playing and dont blame them when you're 6 digits

talent and genetics are different. Talent spans all levels of skill no matter how low or high on leaderboards, rankings etc do not matter and or how low you're rank, LV, placing on any games leaderboard but there's some who have sheer raw talent or pick up on concepts of various games relatively quick. All gaming communities have a rare few of these types, here in the osu! community have Vaxei who tried mods very early after signing up on osu! to happen to have sheer talent with or a knack and got the hang of them when using mods was im guessing some unforeseen concept do something in that regard go against the norm! genetics are not involved, even if you came from the same ball sack and sperm as shroud or ninja, beasttrollMC, KoaleaQ, Cookiezi, etc you maybe won't have the same skill set as them just by having the same or a set of DNA or genetics of those top players, genetics isn't even a factor imo. mainly, we all have a different path, skill set, road of growing as a player, you should break out of you're comfort zone as vaxei did so early in his osu! career try HD, HD, DT or FL on lower then your'e average to get the grip of it most top players or very good players of every game just ain't start good from the gate they experimented or asked for help or just winged it you don't know until you TRY! and again EXPERIMENT!

At least to me, I think talent means being able to find a shorter path towards the solution of the problem (which is improvement in this case) more easily than an average person. If you’re talented at something, you pick it up easier than someone else because you’re naturally taking a shorter path than them towards the goal. I believe talent can be trained as well. You can carve a shorter path on your own with experience at something. In a way, talent is being able to improve faster at improving than others are improving. So there is talent behind talent. And talent behind that. My head hurts.

Talent is a psychological (or maybe philosophical?) thing. They may talk about the same thing, but they're from completely different perspectives, so saying they're different makes a lot of sense. Genetics and to a big extent even talent is a pathetic excuse for lack of skill gain. The by far biggest aspect of getting better at the game is lots of constant playtime. It doesn't take much to see this correlation between playtime and skill on basically every top player profile. And really, what most people call talent in Osu is just previous aiming or rhythm game experience. Things which merely make skill gain at the start for some easier. Things you can easily overcome, if you would just break the at least 2000 play threshold monthly

I'll be darned if it's just an excuse for me not being able to be a speed player but honestly fuck off, i'm jealous, that has to be genetics.
@warpromo66363 жыл бұрын
you are correct, it is genetics. its called the twitch muscle. an average person can train up to like 240 bpm consistently, but no waay can they get to the level of merami who streams like 300 bpm.

Wouldn't this mean that genetics and talent are the same thing though? In the end its something that's not dependent of you, it just works in a different way. I think it's wrong to blame external factors from the start even if they may exist.

Me and a friend of mine started playing osu! (for the first time) together at the same time about 3 weeks ago. We have almost the same amount of play time and usually play online together when we're playing. Around 20 hours of total play time. The thing is I'm passing 5 star maps with an A and my global rank is almost 500K. But he's barely able to pass 3.5 star songs at all and his global rank is still in the 7 digits.

Parlerai mai in italiano in stream oppure in un video?
@Komi_sensei4 жыл бұрын
