I wasn't sure about this one until the cavalry arrived to give me a much needed rest. :)

Great hike and video. It is nice to see how you are enjoying the outdoors in the great Pacific Northwest...and sharing the enjoyment with us!

You should have Jen try the Hillsound Trail Crampon Ultra's for a replacement for her Kahtoola's. Just as good as the Kahtoola's, but come with a retaining strap that goes over the top of your foot, so they don't fall off in deep snow. Or if she found her other one on the way down, just try getting some velcro straps to mimic the Hillsound's
@OutsideAndStuff7 жыл бұрын
She was able to find it thankfully. And it's the first time she's had one fall off. Usually that's me. I definitely want to get some velcro so I can secure mine better. Thanks for the tip!

That looked like a hard slog. I'm surprised that no one along the way had snowshoes. Mind you, I had to put mine on a few weeks ago. I was seriously grumpy about it. I ended up taking them off and just slogging.
@OutsideAndStuff7 жыл бұрын
To be honest, everyone who made it up to the trailhead was surprised by the amount of snow that that storm put down. Normally we don't get snow like that till December.

Nice trip, thanks for sharing. That post holeing sure makes for a good workout! Looks like you might have made it on the last day before the real winter accents kick in. Sure beats the heck out of my climb up Si in the dark this week!
@OutsideAndStuff7 жыл бұрын
I watched your Si hike and it looked like a lot of fun! Hah. If the weather opens up a little this weekend, Jen and I will more than likely be bringing the snowshoes out.

Nick, Thanks for another great video. I also liked that shot of the windshield wipers left pointing outward in the parking lot, I assume to prevent them from becoming frozen stuck to the glass. Anyway have you and Jen considered hiking any portion of the 1200 mile Pacific Northwest Trail?
@OutsideAndStuff7 жыл бұрын
Correct! The wipers on that car were pointed out because the owner had spent the night out there and didn't want them freezing to the windshield. As for the Pacific Northwest Trail, it's funny all the places I've hiked are just out of the bounds for the trail. While I've been to some of the parks that it covers, I've never legitimately hiked parts of it like I've hiked parts of the PCT. There are a few places on my list of hikes that are part of the PNT, so...yes, I am considering hiking parts of it. :)

That was quite the adventure marking out the snowy trail! I have a question about winter clothing. I’ve never gone hiking in a snowy area before and would like to this winter. What are you guys wearing for pants? Hiking, soft shell, rain, snow pants and then a base layer under? Thanks!
@OutsideAndStuff7 жыл бұрын
No base layers as of yet, it's not cold enough for us, and they get really hot once you start hiking. Right now our pants are regular hiking pants. But once the temps drop a lot more, we will switch to a softshell snow hiking pant.

Beautiful as always! Do you guys want to do the PCT someday? I've watched to "Wild" months ago, and since then I was wondering about that and this video made me question it again. Sorry if it was a stupid question, but it's a curiosity that I have. Thank you for bring the snow again, even if its not the way you expected :]

Currently there are no plans to do any real thru-hiking on the PCT or other surrounding major hikes. I think Jen and I are more interested in focusing on summiting mountains and spending time in a specific place as opposed to traveling through. But hey, her dad just retired and did the entire Appalachian Trail this past summer. So maybe when I retire I will think about thru-hikes a bit more. :)
@Fer.A7 жыл бұрын
I see that hike it's in Jen's blood. And I'll be here watching you guys summiting or not :) . Thank you for the answer.

What did you use for boots / gaiters?
@OutsideAndStuff7 жыл бұрын
I have a pair of Salewa Mountain Trainer GTX Approach shoes and I use Outdoor Research Crocodile Gaiters because they are extremely durable and made with gortex.
