Today, we make our way into Corfu LGKR in the awesome Aerosoft CRJ 700 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. I'll take you through the steps to help you fly a successful VOR DME Arc procedure in the sim using the CRJ.
We start heading south down the Adriatic Coast. I'll take you through all the charts, the set up in the CDU and setting up the VOR frequencies. I'll then show you how to fly the Arc in Heading Mode (instead of leaving it in Nav) for that added Hands-On feel for the entire 20DME Arc.

No problem! There are other things to do to prep for arrival of course like adding in the landing elevation etc but I didn't put that into this because I wanted the focus on the procedure 👍

Thanks for tutorial. Excellent. Have migrated from FBW Airbus. Used all your CRJ tutorials in conjunction with The Dude CRJ . You have made the FS2020 CRJ experience very enjoyable . I agree prefer CRJ to Airbus. Much more hands on.

Thank you so much for this. Like another commenter I was struggling to land the CRJ550 (coming from the A320) on VOR landings, and this was the ticket I needed to feel I have a good handle on this jet (and that's as someone going to a 4 year program for ATP LOL). It's a finicky jet, but it's quickly becoming my favourite to fly as it's so hands on compared to the A320. A real treat and a joy to fly and I owe a lot of that to your detailed and very good quality tutorials! Just finished LGAV - LGAL landing at 135kts. Wonderful experience. Watched this video three times, took notes, and managed a landing that actually made me smile ear to ear. Thanks so much! Edit: I have upgraded to a Gold Frequent Flyer to show support to your channel. I will be sure to make time to watch your live streams as well!

Excellent tutorial, best of VOR approaches for the CRJ. I was wondering though: 3.4 degrees decent angle on the ILS as per the chart, how does that translate into 900ft/min? Thanks for advice!

On the charts, it'll have the G/S then a small table showing fpm against ground speed. Find the ground speed you're flying the approach at, and use the table to work out what fpm descent you need (i.e. -900fpm) 🙂 glad you like the tutorial!

You could do VOR approach using NAV mode too, right ? I need to practice VOR/DME a lot more

Hey, I'm back for more information. I haven't tried VOR / DME on CRJ yet. What do you need to do, to get Audio morse code to be heard ? It's a good way to confirm, you've tuned in the right frequency.

Another procedure to practice. It seems CRJ can’t follow VOR DME ARC automatically, right ? You need to turn HDG button and look at the distance :)

Hello ! Finally a perfect flight in CRJ, 500 this time. From start to the end ! EFHK (Helsinki) Finland 🇫🇮 to EFMA (Mariehamn) Åland 🇦🇽 I can’t believe I didn’t crash or that aircraft didn’t do any funny circles 🔁 I naturally had to do cleaning up in the legs 🦵🏻 No help from SimBrief, used Navigraph 🧭 for iPad (Charts) just manual labour. HDG sync easy when you know what to do. HDG before final approach, then hit APPR when “needle” starts to move. Manage speed, kept at ~ 145 knots. Good feeling !

Fantastic! 🙌 The most rewarding aircraft in MSFS at the moment minus the DC6 giving a massive sense of achievement when you finally nail it 🙂

Question 🙋‍♂️ I watched this tutorial, so CRJ can’t follow an ACR automatically, must use HDG mode and turn manually ? Can the ARC be programmed into FMS ?

😎 in the EFB there is a button in the Options Page (page 2 I think) for Coupled VNAV

I just got the CRJ and have familiarized myself with it. I understand how to navigate VORs in and NDBs in the Airbus but I still needed a bit of help on how to do it in the CRJ. I was wondering at first how I could get the plane to fly with the waypoints on the FMS automatically and it would still track the VOR distance while it was doing that but NOPE not with the CRJ LOL. Once you switch the nav source to the VOR its all heading bug. That makes a bit more sense now and also, I thought a VOR Arc approach would be a lot harder and not just following a fix ring distance from the VOR! (The way I understand it). I thought it would be like a certain degree or something you put into the plane! Also British Avgeek, what does the DME-H button do on the Squawk box thingy?(I have no clue what to call it since theres literally 3 different places you can all put in the NAV freq). Edit: Oh! I was going to ask you if you end up responding to my comment, do you know what the Flight Dynamics box does in the main pedestal on the bottom right with the green numbers and letters? I was trying to figure that out but then I ended up giving up. I was going to ask if you would know if it is implemented correctly and if it even works which I would assume but you never know. If so, how do you use it? Edit 2: I just realized I have a sound bug with my knobs. I don't get a sound for everytime they turn unlike yours. Also, the Battery Master switch on the first flick wont give me all the fun vibration things when it turns on the first time. The second time it gives me those vibrations though, but I do get the chimes everytime.

Hi! DME Hold is good for ILS approaches etc so it doesn't tune into any other frequencies automatically when it's set to Auto in the CDU. Not sure what the flight dynamics bit does, can't say I've taken much notice of it or had cause to use it! And sounds wise, not sure - it's been updated a few times so perhaps the sounds have been changed a little

@@BritishAvgeek Hey all good! I just wanna say this but it really means a lot to me when you respond to comments like this even with old videos. It really makes me happy and I’m sure other people too! I’ll be sure to watch more of your CRJ streams now that I have it! Edit: Not going to lie I don’t think you have a video of VOR tracking! I’ve only ever seen one tutorial and it’s by 320 Sim Pilot on the A320. I definitely would watch one for the CRJ even though I pretty much understand it. I think it would be a good video idea!

@@BritishAvgeek Ah yes that’s it! Also, I had the energy to go and find the CRJ Aerosoft manual to find out what the flight dynamics page was. So you know the Heads up display thingy that can come down as a visor? Well it basically controls the projector. It’s on the very last pages of the manual but you can enter in different runway distances and glide slope paths and change what mode you want it on as for visual takeoff Cat 3 minimums visual landing etc. I don’t think I would ever use it LOL. Very handy manual though and I learned a few things!

Instead of using HDG mode to track the VOR radial, wouldn’t turning on NAV mode whilst your NAV source being on the VOR be more proficient?

I just tried to fly a VOR DME with the CRJ 700 and it messed up the plan. I had to go missed and fly a RNAV. Can the NAV mode handle flying VOR DME procedures?

It can yes providing the VORs are tuned and locked and the course is set properly... Descent will always be down to you to manage and don't forget some vor approaches are offset

Crj really has a lot potential. Right now its got many bugs especially concerning the autopilot. Interception of GS an pitching down to -3000 fpm is a big no no

@@BritishAvgeek for me it worked 3 out of 5 times. I am also a real world professional pilot and my approach setup was done correctly. I think aerosoft will patch in a while. They are usually very reliable on this. Still love this add-on 💛💙

@@jojojoman78 yeah it is lovely - re: the bugs, it uses the MSFS GS logic BUT Aerosoft are making a custom glideslope etc for a future update to endure it flies fine. I've found if you capture AT or just above the glideslope it works fine
