I've steadily followed the whole of your VFR flight tutorials and the old & new G1000 tutorials. This is an outstanding set of material. Just completed an early morning flight up the West Coast of Scotland in a 172, complete with a proper flight plan and using the AP VNav and final approach modes. And it all worked! So, thank you😃

I notice that you seem to always build your flight plan in the G1000 while in flight. Is there an advantage to doing this in comparision to using a website like simbrief to create a complete flight plan and then just import into aircraft and fly?
@AlphaHotelFlightSimulation
@AlphaHotelFlightSimulation Жыл бұрын
Probably not, Stevieray. I primarily did that for instructional purposes (and because I wasn't a big user of simbrief or little navmap at the time.) If you know how to do that, that's probably a pretty effecient way to load a flight plan. It's always a good idea to double check all the points in your flight plan to make sure they are correct in both the sim and real life. Garbage in, garbage out, as they say... I would steer away from using the MSFS flight planner, though. That thing is still very quirky and difficult to use, IMHO - and it's often difficult to get it to load what you want.

hi, love these vids. is it possible to manually create an approach for landing strip that doesn't have a pre saved approach in gx1000? i cannot for the life of me figure out how to program the waypoints and save it as an approach so I don't have to do it every time, and also so it's just stored in the gx1000 as an approach that I can select while making my flight plan. i'm addicted to flying around western PNG and there are no pre saved approaches for almost any of the landing strings or airports. so i want to create them and save them in the gx1000 so i can just make flight plans. i find it very enjoyable figuring out landing patterns and creating approaches around all these mountain strips.

@justinbouchard, thanks for the the kind words - glad you are enjoying the content. As far as I know there is know way to create a custom approach in the G1000 - but creating a flight plan with the waypoints will basically accomplish the same thing. You can even load altitudes at each waypoint to get some vertical guidance - though it will be VNAV guidance and not an actual glidepath like you would get on an approach.

@@AlphaHotelFlightSimulationthank you !! :) i was hoping i could find a way to do it from the plane and just load it in because it would feel cool and save time i guess lol thank for your awesome response :)

Is there a way to edit the traffic pattern that the G1000 chooses when I add a visual approach? I am trying to fly a visual approach into an airport (SCCY) which is located in a narrow valley, and the G1000 decides to fly a right teardrop entry straight into a mountainside, whereas a left teardrop would have been perfect.
@AlphaHotelFlightSimulation
@AlphaHotelFlightSimulation 2 жыл бұрын
Ron, As far as I know there is no way to edit the visual approach path or build it in a certain way. It will build it differently depending on where you are in relation to the desired runway, though - and you can use this to get the system to build the path in a certain way. For example, if you want the system to build a left teardrop type approach to runway 21, you need to maneuver the aircraft into a position that is South-southeast of the field at SCCY (basically in a wide left downwind for runway 21.) If you load/activate the visual approach to 21 from this position, it should build it as a left teardrop maneuver. It's important to understand how the system builds a visual approach. It creates a point that is about 2.5 miles from the runway threshold for the selected runway, and aligned with the extended runway centerline. It makes the target altitude at that point about 750 feet above field elevation. It then creates an optimal path from the aircraft's current location and altitude to that point - but it does NOT account for terrain when it does so (It basically treats all airports like they are in a flat area, and *will* fly you into the side of a mountain if that's where the optimal lateral track and a 3 degree glide path would take you from your present position/altitude. It does give you a disclaimer to that effect when you load the visual approach, and using the visual approach function may not be something that works well at airports with terrain in close proximity to the airport.)

Hi! I'm new to MSFS (about two months now) coming from X-Plane Since this video is a year old now, I'm thinking something must have gotten broken in the nxi or else I have something misconfigured. VNAV is not working like yours in the video. When I first press the VNV key, I see VPTH go armed (turns white) and the countdown to TOD begins. However, unlike your video, I do not get the ALTV altitude in magenta beside the ALTS above the altitude tape like you do. When it does reach TOD, I get the "glideslope" indication and the plane starts down as expected but there is NEVER any ALTV window. Also, there is no level off at the stairsteps as in the real G1000 (and X-Plane). It just begins to steadily descend until it reaches faf. Has something changed with the nxi from a year ago? I can understand WT making improvements in that time but not the reverse. I almost think I have something wrong but can't imagine what that might be. Thank you so much for these great training videos! -mark

@markfletcher4579, from reading the Working Title Discord and the MSFS forums - it appears that the way it's working (or not working) right now is a glitch that was introduced accidentally with AAU2. The way it is described in the video (and they way it was working when the video was made) is correct. Supposedly it will be fixed with Sim Update 13 - which, as I understand it, is scheduled to be released on Sept 28th now. (Though, if you don't want to wait that long, you could always enroll in the Beta.) Thanks for watching!

Here you go, willie: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJfGeq2uorxoq8k I believe you can also change it by using the map menu options - but this way is probably fastest, easiest. That was in video #1 on the NXI, if you want to check out the whole thing.
