This, absolutely. I think that another aspect that went almost entirely uninterrogated was the mention that teachers would be from all over the country/world. I can see this as a huge tool for dismantling any attempts at unionization, since teachers wouldn't share a space, and might not even be able to communicate directly. I could even see this leading to companies outsourcing or automating the teaching role as a way to minimize expenses.

They have virtual schools in Ready Player One, where one advantage is that you can mute bullies or any other students who hate you. But the reality of absence of peer socialisation and organised PE and indeed outdoor playtime is horrifying in physical health ad mental health terms. I can see it being lapped up by those who want to perform the middle-class conservative evangelical homeschooling cultus to help destroy public schooling for everyone else, with minimum effort or learning how to teach on their part.

the problem with VR is that there's no haptic or kenesthetic feedback. you can't feel the weight of a wax tablet nor the resistance of your stylus as you draw on it.. there's also the lack of treadmill as standard.

My parents work in education so do a lot of my other relatives. Something I knew was going to be a shitshow when they tried remote learning back in 2020 was this, what about special ed? How will this VR learning be effectively implemented for kids who are mentally ill and developmentally disabled? Thats something a lot of this "school choice" shit just doesn't address. I remember on the Majority Report a caller who was a teacher brought that up to them as well. These charter schools either have the bare minimum or nothing at all when it comes to kids with special needs. Charter schools are already infamous for expelling students who fall behind as a means of maintaining their higher test scores, rather than invest time and effort into helping kids learn.
