[MTB maintenance] Time ATAC pedal rebuild

I have rebuilt my Time ATAC Alium pedals. These pedals are old, and there seems to be no full rebuild kit available out there. So I tried to rebuild them on my own as usual.

This was an EXCELLENT VIDEO...just subscribed! I have been using ATAC Alium pedals on my 2004 Giant VT3 since 2006...have only kept them clean and maybe a little silicone spray for the cleat /pedal interface; now, I think I might service internals in the off season this year...I absolutely LOVE these TIME pedals.

Hi, these nylon bushing and dust seal are hard-to-find items. Both parts I purchased locally (I'm located in Japan) and they don't sell internationally unfortunately. As for the bushing, the part used in the video is "IGUS JSM-1012-15", so try their web site below (search for JSM-1012-15): www.igus.com/ The dust seal is NOK VR-14A oil seal (manufacturer code: BM1210A0). NOK seals are used everywhere around the world, so you may find a supplier in your local area. You can simply use an o-ring as a dust seal replacement or any other cup seals, though they may not look so stylish :)

Hi, could you tell me please if new Time pedals should have a very slight and minimal play in spindle? I got new pedals and when I grab pedal body with one hand and spindle thread with other hand and push/pull it up and down, I can feel slight play in the spindle. Thank you

Both my ATAC Alium and ATAC Carbon XC8 pedals have slight play between the body and the spindle. Very slight play seems to be normal on ATAC models as my Carbon XC8s have a very low mileage.

@@MindDesignFactory do you know if brand new pedals got that slight play too? I got 15 years old Time's (old design with two bearings), they got some play too but they covered thousands of miles now so I suppose it is normal

I can't remember whether my ATAC pedals had play as brand new, but it is highly probable that they had. I have just checked my M9120 XTR trail pedals and they have no play at all.

@@MindDesignFactorymy Shimano Dura Ace pedals, nearly new, have no play at all in them. I think I will return them as I am worried that this play will get worse over the time. Thank you for your help

I cannot seem to get the spindle out. The step for getting it out of the bearing seat is proving not possible. I am using the size 10 socket and striking hard with a mallet but it will not move. Any tips? Thank you

Maybe your socket has a deeper hole than mine and you just hit on the bearing not on the spindle. Could you try hitting directly on the spindle top using a 6 or 8mm bolt and a mallet?

I have accidentally deleted a comment from a guy, saying that he can't find any replacement parts on Time's site. So I reply to that comment here: You can of course not find parts for the pedals on Time' site. Because they are too old and not longer supported by Time. I have identified the parts , searched for replacements and got hold of them all on my own.

Please post the list of parts and where to find them. Yo even didn't show the labels for the parts bags. More detail will be appreciated. I have the very same brand/model of pedals

I replied to a similar question before from a guy wanting to know where to get the parts. So please refer to the most recent comment too. I'm afraid I can't show you the labels of the parts because the labels show my Japanese local suppliers' names and they don't accept orders from overseas. All the parts and its size or model are shown in the video so that you can try to find them on your own locally or on the internet. The nylon bushing is the hardest to find, so it is best to leave it as it is if you can't get it. And if you can't find the bearing and the seal locally, try to search for "696ZZ" (bearing) and "VA-14" (seal) at Aliexpress at your own risk.
