late 80s was a great time for music. Rock was at its peak, R&B/pop was at it's peak, HipHop was rising fast and Country music wasn't far behind

Anyone who thought women cannot rock as hard as guys just got schooled. Vixen mopped the floor with everyone else here. Jan Kuehnemund one of best guitarists in world. It shows. Pure technical genius. Roxy pounding so hard on drums she's coming up out of her seat. This is over the top awesome. These girls laid it down. I need a cigarette.

This is different from the other one I watched. Which was mainly hosted by Sandra Bernhard in New York. It did show snippets of the LA portion, but I thought that just how the main show was. I didn't realize the LA party was aired entirely on it's own.

Excerpt from: Stevie Rachelle's 'Tuff Diaries' 'Entry #7 MTV’s NYE Big Bash, Riki & Taime’s Cathouse & My Girlfriend was a Poster at Spencer’s (August 20th 2018)' metalsludge.tv/tuff-diaries-7-mtvs-nye-big-bash-riki-taimes-cathouse-and-my-girlfriend-was-a-poster-at-spencers/ ''It’s now New Years Eve 1988. Well sort of… MTV is shooting an epic New Year’s bash in Reseda California. It’s called “MTV’s Big Bang ’89” They are filming it at the Country Club, but one small catch. It’s NOT New Year’s Eve. Matter of fact, it’s not even December 31st. Nope, it was filmed 3 weeks earlier on December 9th in the middle of the day. So in short, the whole thing was staged. The show was started and stopped, with a film crew who would instruct the audience, “Okay, so GO CRAZY now!” This was repeated several times, and then they’d pan the cameras across the crowd. C.C. DeVille and Sam Kinison jamming “Wild Thing” as the night’s encore with Robbin “King” Crosby, Rudy Sarzo and others. It was a mostly invite only and industry crowd, so of coure Tuff were on the list. The event was hosted by the hottest comic at that time, Sam Kinison. Also co-hosting was MTV Veejay “Downtown” Julie Brown. Musical guests included The Escape Club, Hall & Oates, Bobby Brown, Vixen, Poison and Robert Plant. It was a fun time, but obviously way before modern technology with everything being shot and edited weeks before it aired.''

Pretty sure some of these bands were using backing studio tracks for stage quick change up but with live vocals...I've been listening to these tunes for 34 year's and know every nuance of the studio recordings, nobody plays live exactly as it was recorded in the studio...this was live TV...so bands had to get on and off quick.

..BROKEN HEART....is a theme song of mine if there ever was one. I will always remember, 1989 MTV HIGE New Years Show.....VIxen and Winger I was SOOO happy, first time VIXEN was on tv and I was taping at home and my Mom was so excteid to. We ordred pizza and it just got there in time and we were having fun, I was blushing like crazy...My Mom came running in the lving room to watch as she loved them too....Edge of a Broken Heart, yup....we were bringing in the NEW (WORST) YEAR OF MY LIFE. I would not have my Mom in 11 months. My Mom LOVED metal she got me into KISS in 1976 ( I was 3) I REALLY HATE IT when people say "oh if your parents like the same music as you that's a bad sign." FUCK THAT!! That only means when a new cd/cassette (back then LOL) it was almost a sure thing that when one your bands released a new album you would get it ASAP because she wanted to hear it as well!!! It breaks my heart, that night still is so freash in my head. Also, I SO LOVED JAN. As al of us metakheads know she was an AMAZING guitarist and it was forever silenced 8 years ago from cancer. She was a GREAT person....Cancer took my Mom and Jan way too soon. I am a Cowboys fan and I can promise "Every Rose Has It's THorn..." MISS YOU MOM AND JAN
